Just Hanging Out

--The following transcript was a live chat roleplay--
‹Roderic› I was disappointed that Phoenix had no idea what it was I was going to do with Juliet, but that wouldn't deter me from doing it. She had said it sounded like fun, which seemed like a blanket statement of sorts, since she didn't know what it was. Behind me, propped up on the wall was a shovel and on the floor next to it a bag filled with various things and a GPS. "Hey Juliet." I nod to her after throwing my cigarette to the ground when I see her coming my way.
‹Juliet› After work, Juliet had changed into a pair of old faded and worn black jeans, a longsleeved tan teeshirt and matching denim jacket; as usual, her hair fell down her back in loose waves. Black boots clicked against the gas station floor as she lifted her hand in greeting to Roderic with a smile playing across her lips. "Hi 'Ric," She chimed, eying the bag a moment curiously a moment later before raising her blue eyes back to the male.
‹Roderic› I've never hung out with anyone before. I mean, I've hung out with the MC, but that was really them hanging out and me sort of watching and doing my own thing with the work I brought with me. I've not really hung out with a woman before either. Well, except that one time with Saige, but that was an accident run in and hadn't been planned. The last woman I hung out was boring and only wanted sex, even if we only had it one time. One time too many for my liking. So this was odd. If not because Phoenix had made us hang out, but because she was a woman and the first person I was attempting to be social with. Legitimately. I look at the items because I notice she looked at them and shrugged. "It's for what we're going to do tonight. When we hang out." It looks like we're about to bury someone now that I think about it. I wonder if she thinks that too. "If you think it's stupid, we can do something else." I offer before I realize I hadn't said what it is we're doing. "We're going to go look for something. It's buried by some music store. They put it out yesterday and it's not been found. I guess you use this stuff to find it." I shrug again. "Called Geo-something."
‹Juliet› He was strange, Juliet would admit that easily and the fact she knew he played with dead things didn't quite settle her nerves as she looked at the bag before she then looked back to Roderic once more as he spoke. "That... is interesting. I'm sure it'll be nice to try something new anyway." She smiled and then shrugged, "I don't think there's much that one can call stupid, really. We all have those moments and if you aren't willing to open your mind, it is a waste of life."
‹Roderic› I nod and almost smile. But I catch myself. Truth is, I like Juliet. She gave me a job, helped me find Phoenix in that place called the Shadow Realm and used her brains all the time. Something a lot of people took advantage of. As I feel my lips turn up, I bend down and pick up the bag that will be used for getting our "loot," as they call it. I've never done this before, but I know I can dig a hole well. So if we work together, we can find the prize put in the ground by this place and this hanging out experience wouldn't be that bad. "Cool." I say as I toss her the bag that had not much in it. Just some medical supplies if something happened and a compass should we need it. I give her appearance a once over, glad she took my suggestion to heart and dressed accordingly. "So we have to follow this thing." I swipe up the GPS and show it to her. I've never used one before and it shows when I try and figure out how to turn it on.
‹Juliet› She lifted her hand in time to catch the bag, feeling the pull of the damaged skin on her abdomen stretch in protest enough to make her crinkle her nose before she set the bag over her shoulder. To her, it had been more important to heal the gaping headwound that had been in place for a day. "Geolocation." Now she understood, and as he showed it to her, Juliet felt her lips twitch in amusement as she waited for the screen to light up. After a few moments, she stepped forward and pointed to a button for him to press. "Try holding that one down." In the beginning, she had thought when Phoenix turned the blood thief it had been a joke. She had offered him a job to keep an eye on him, but after the last few weeks, she had been glad to talk to him occasionally in passing or on the family board.
‹Roderic› "Oh." I look down at the GPS thing and does as she says. It turns on and I do smile. Rocky start, but once we got to the digging part and finding the treasure, it'd get better. I hope. I hate wasting my time, but to waste my boss's time wouldn't do either. "Ready?" I ask her as I grab the shovel from off the corner of the wall and wait to see what the GPS says, as I programmed the first location in last night and made sure the voice was on. I didn't like the voice, but it served a purpose. Once that purpose was met, I'd probably end up tossing the thing in a garbage.
‹Juliet› She gave a nod of her head while she adjusted the bag over her shoulder once more, "Ready." She chimed again once more in her light voice. She had done most of the work needed yesterday, asking for one of the other employees to take over and only contact her if something was bad. "Let's go."
‹Roderic› "In one hundred feet, turn left." A woman's voice trilled out as soon as we step outside the gas station. I shoot a look over to Juliet, apologizing for the obnoxiousness of the woman's voice. "How was work?" I don't like small talk, but I'm not sure what else we should do while we listen to the woman shout out commands at us.
‹Juliet› She didn't seem to mind the noise, giving a small nod to acknowledge the man's look before she lifted her lips in a soft smile, "It was work, calming as usual. Unfortunately one of the patients passed away so you have a new customer downstairs in the morgue." She scratched at her cheek lightly in thought, moving in the direction that the GPS had instructed.
‹Roderic› "Yeah, that's unfortunate." Not really. Dying was an aspect of living, unless you were a vampire. The only unfortunate part was that I didn't have a hand in the patient's death. I follow after Juliet, fine with her taking the lead, more or less. If that's what it meant by her being ahead of me by a step or two. "I met your wraith the other night. Last night. She your cousin?" I'm interested in knowing Juliet's take on things, since the wraith didn't know who she really was.
‹Juliet› The brunette shrugged her shoulders faintly as she pulled her jacket closer around her form in the winter air. Even if her body didn't feel it, Juliet supposed it was all a memory. The shiver that ran down her spine caused her to cringe gently. "April, I'm not quite sure. I suppose I'd have to see her to be sure. She acts like her, surely."
‹Roderic› "Turn left." The voice in the GPS barked at them, reminding them to turn before they needed to proceed to the next set of directions. "Hmm." Is all I say, noticing how she shivers. I've not felt the cold since I became this. Became a vampire. Maybe vampires are different though, so I turn left and then do something I wouldn't do for anyone. I don't think I would. Probably not even Phoenix. "You can have my coat if you're cold. I just wear it out of habit." I offer, only because it's Juliet. I know I'm not the life of the party when hanging out with me, but she's giving it an honest attempt, even at Nix' request. "Not sure how much more it'll do, but it's something." I look down to the thin, flannel coat that's meant more for autumn then winter and then over at her.
‹Juliet› She eyed the GPS and made a mental note to introduce Roderic to the world of cellphones and how the tone the one her phone had was much nicer at a later date. "I'm not really cold, I think it's from habit. I'm usually back down south at this time of year." Visiting her mother, usually. Her father and older brother lived in Harper Rock, they didn't live too far away from her if she remembered right. She hadn't seen her father in a while. "Thank you, though."
‹Roderic› "Down south? Like Texas?" I didn't say Mexico because that sounded racist, knowing she was Mexican and I knew there were Mexican's in other parts of the world. Like Texas, New Mexico, Nevada, places like that. "Proceed for half a mile." The GPS informed us just at about the time I paused in my attaining details of Juliet. I liked getting information about people, usually they were my victims though. I doubt Juliet would ever be on that side of the table with me. "April told me some things last night." I add in. I don't even know why I told her that, she didn't need to know that. "I can stop asking questions if you want." I pull out a pack of cigarettes and a cheap lighter.
‹Juliet› 'My mother lives in Mexico, but I have family in Texas and Arizona." She smiled, not seeming to mind the words before she tucked her hands into the pockets of her jacket. It seemed to help that she wasn't easily offended, "She's trying to get me to go home and work there for a while, my aunt is taking a turn for the worse." She thought about it for a moment, "Though she's been sick for a long time and she'll be at peace. The questions don't bother me. I do miss my horses though."
‹Roderic› "A while?" I hope my tone hasn't changed at all and given anything away. I don't really want Juliet to go away for a while. She's the only person that's given me the time of night in this cluster **** of a life I found myself in. I keep going straight as the GPS instructed us to do, not bothered by the walk, though we were headed in to the woods. I wasn't sure how far we'd have to go, but hopefully, not too far. I'm not sure how Juliet's endurance is, but I'm not bothered by the woods. I wonder if we're close to any people I've buried out here. "Could always have the horses brought up here. If you have the room." I say that because if Juliet had her horses then she would come back sooner, when she had to leave.
‹Juliet› "I'd still be reachable by email, and phone, but I haven't decided yet. Too much of this place just holds memories." Athena. April. Adric. If his voice had changed, Juliet showed no acknowledgement if she caught it or not. Her blue eyes lowered to the ground and lightly she rubbed the back of her neck. Would her powers let her reach that far? Juliet wasn't quite sure. "Mm, I've thought about that but I've yet to purchase anything bigger than a few shops and apartments." She was saving for a boat, admittedly, or a house, but had yet to get to it. Her custom rifle had taken priority.
‹Roderic› "Do you like being a vampire?" I ask her bluntly before lighting my cigarette. "I mean, won't every place have memories as we get older? Or live forever?" Where the hell did that thought come from? I understood the need to pack up and leave town sometimes, so couldn't fault her if she needed to. Only I did it to escape the law. She did it to escape other things I wasn't quite sure about. I doubt it was for the same reason as me. "In fifty feet, turn right." I look down at the GPS, glad it talked for once, as I wasn't sure what I meant. "How long do you think you would be gone for? If you did have to go?" As I walk I let the tip of the shovel hit the earth, as if using it like a walking stick of sorts.
‹Juliet› "It has its moments. I do and I don't." Her fangs, as always, were hidden. "It sort of makes owning three businesses difficult especially when you originally wanted to pursue another type of career that calls for you having to remain in daylight." She chuckled, shaking her head as she considered it slowly. She did, but not always. "I'm honestly not sure." She sighed and crossed her arms faintly in front of her chest, "until the idea of going into my apartment doesn't hurt any more." She had been sleeping in her office most of the time.
‹Roderic› Moments. I liked that. Sometimes I didn't mind being a vampire. Like right now. But some times I missed being a blood thief. Life was more exciting. Dangerous even. I obviously didn't mind danger. "In ten feet, turn right." I shake the GPS, pissed at the voice again. "What did you want to do?" I ask, then turn right as the voice commands us to turn right. I'm not sure what to say about her apartment hurting her. I doubt that's possible that a place hurts someone. So she must mean emotionally, and I could figure out that she was talking about Athena from what April told me last night. "Could get another one." I offer, trying to be useful. "Or spend time at the Altaire place Saige showed me a while back."
‹Juliet› "That's the one I'm talking about, and I'm saving up for a bigger place eventually." She explained, or another shop, she added mentally. Juliet liked to keep busy because it kept her away from her thoughts that often upset her. "I wanted to be a teacher." She explained and then reached over to turn the GPS thing down a bit as she figured it was just the volume bothering him. "Every place I go just makes me think of her I guess."
‹Roderic› I take a long drag in when I hear her say she wanted to be a teacher. I have nothing against the profession, just one individual in particular. I don't comment on that, because I doubt it would be nice and I was supposed to be hanging out with Juliet, which probably meant watching what I say. I'm not really sure how every place reminds Juliet of Athena. Athena was someone I'd gladly shove a knife in to her. I'd not tell this to anyone, most of all Juliet because how much I like Juliet. I turn right when the GPS tells us to do that and we've reached as far as the GPS will take us. "Got that compass?" I ask her, knowing she did. "We've got to go about half a mile south west for the loot."
‹Juliet› "Something tells me you were the one to bury it." She smirked in his direction, not commenting on his reaction as she moved the bag and began to search for it for the compass. Closing her fingers around it, Juliet straightened out and offered the device over to her fang-sibling. "Try to not get us lost, although I can teleport myself and summon you if we do."
‹Roderic› I wasn't sure how summoning worked, but I knew how teleporting worked. I did it once to Phoenix back in my blood thief days. When she was trying to take over my cave. "Lost?" I look at her. There was nothing in my look. No amusement, no skepticism, not even a hint of me being insulted. "I know my way in these woods." I brush the idea of us being lost off and don't tell her if I was the one who buried this treasure or not. Would she have came if it had been buried by me? I doubt it. "South west is that way." I point north and take a step towards it, knowing that I was going the wrong way. I was just seeing if Juliet noticed.
‹Juliet› She knew how to read a compass; it had been learned back home when her parents were still together. Someone had let one of the horses get loose and they had to look for it. "If you know these woods why are you going in the wrong direction?" She lifted an eyebrow, holding up the device where could see. "We need to go this way." Juliet nodded her head in the general direction.
‹Roderic› "Am I?" I ask before turning around and walking past her, going in the right direction finally. "Just thought I saw something that way." Juliet had surprised me. I wasn't surprised often. As I walked, I spun the shovel in my hands, making sure she wasn't too close. She might not want to hang out with me again. Not that I was sure I wanted to hang out with her. It wasn't her specifically, it was just the idea of hanging out. It took me nights to think of something to do, then to put it all together. It was more work than killing someone. "Think you'll open another business? You have a lot of them already." More small talk, but I wasn't trying to get anywhere near the talk of Athena.
‹Juliet› "Uh huh." She eyed him with a lifted eyebrow, following once more as she adjusted her shoes for a moment and stretched out her heel for a second. "I might, probably a clinic to go with the Asylum." She had considered the idea, not quite sure if it would work. The other option was something to tie into Refractions. "Like I said, keeps me busy and happy."
‹Roderic› I was disappointed that Phoenix had no idea what it was I was going to do with Juliet, but that wouldn't deter me from doing it. She had said it sounded like fun, which seemed like a blanket statement of sorts, since she didn't know what it was.
