The Ending of a Story (Private, Odin)

She ran a hand through her wet hair as she sat on the edge of her bed. ‘Odin’ she felt like someone had taken a knife and stabbed her, twisting it over and over again, yet that pain was either becoming too comfortable for her or slowly disappearing. Pulling her legs up to her chest she wrapped her arms them and buried her face. She knew if she was truly honest with herself she had liked him before she was ever a vampire. True she had been the cause of his death, she hadn’t meant to kill him but she knew she couldn’t let him die either. It had been simple then, she needed him. That hadn’t changed even now. She just needed him to always be with her. Even if it wasn’t important as long as he remained a fixed point in her life, she could be happy.
Yet the comments about how they would be good together, didn’t mean anything to her then or now. She just smiled it off, just like every time someone told her they liked him. It was easy to just smile it off, and why? It was simple she had always thought that deep down he would ever like anyone, including herself. How wrong she had been. Why couldn’t she have just kept that one thing, that one fixed fact? Why did it have to spiral out of control around her? Now, she had no choice but to deal with it and she wasn’t sure she was even really dealing with it correctly. Yet she had made up her mind she would step back, try to go back… to just pretending he didn’t mean anything to her. After all, she was able to bury things down so deep no one could find them.
‘Love…’ she held herself tighter why did that word have to pop up now? Still she found herself going through it all yet again. The recipe of love, ‘Intimacy…’ there was no doubt about that she would always have a connection with him, she was forever his sire no matter what choices he made, no matter what he did in the end she and she alone turned him. There would never be anything he could do to change that fact, but there was more than that. She trusted him; he was the first person since she lost everyone that she cared about that she trusted. Trusted so much that she had chosen to not stay in the hotel after she had hired him, because she knew he was working in her home, and knowing that it could had been truly awful for her had something had happened between them. Yet at the same time knowing he would never do such a thing because she had trusted him even then.
‘Yet you thought he would kill you…’ she had to mentally laugh at that one fact. ‘Yes…’ she had thought he would turn around and hurt her physically… she wasn’t stupid, she knew he was dangerously. Even now she knew that… and wasn’t that what had drove her towards him? What she hadn’t expected however was the emotional pain he had caused her.
Sighing she rested her chin on her knees and stared into space, ‘I like kissing him, I like when he cuts into me, I like cutting into him, his scent…’ she could list other things but she knew more than that she craved his attention rather good or bad… she just wanted him to pay attention to her. Even now, she wanted his attention and she knew she would always crave his attention. She lowered her face back into her legs as she sighed, ‘That’s passion…’
By her own standards of love, that meant that they were correct, that she really was in love… that she had somehow gone from just Liking him to having a Romantic Love. ‘Stupid Theory… why did you have to…’ she wanted to cry out in frustration but she didn’t, her mind was already racing into the next set of thoughts, the future she had planned for herself. It had always been one with no romantic feelings a comfortable empty love… just that commitment to remain together because that was what was expected. That was the life she had chosen for herself when it was asked of her. She knew she had hope if she was lucky that it would become a companionate love. Yet Odin walked into her life and had shattered her plans.
‘No he isn’t to blame…’ was it Chad Worthington III then? No, he had sired her yes but she had already lost what had held her together by the time he had found her. She had already came to Harper Rock, she had already had hired Odin, she had moved into her home before it was ready to be closer to him. Which meant the only one to blame for what she felt was herself.
She choked back the pain that welled inside of her; she had killed her parents, her grandparents. Had she just kept going into medical school, she never would have been selected to speak and they never would have gotten into the car, or gotten onto the highway and they never would have died. Yet the part that hurt the most was that had none of that happened, she never would of met Odin… she would never of had her first real friend in Ripper and through him became friends with Noelle, she never would of met Jarrett, Colly, or Wolffyn. She never would have had found two wonderful elder siblings in Serendipity and Nikolae… nor the select friends she had outside of them. Most of all she would of never had learned of Antigony. To be able to speak to ones ancestor was unbelievable to her, to not just have known of her but to have found her to have been held in her arms. She prayed to her name say the moon that Antigony would never fade.
She wanted to laugh at how screwed up she was, Blake had pointed it out to her but even he had no idea how totally messed up she was and the fact remained, no one really did. ‘No Ripper has a clue… and Odin… Odin knows for sure… he had helped to release that part of me that I kept hidden, the part that had thought if only I could remove those who didn’t belong…then true balance could be found in the world.’
She lifted her face, thinking about who else knew and the answer was pretty simple anyone who ended up as her lab rat knew. Why? She wanted to help not just understand the limitations of a vampires, to aid humans in cures but in her own way help to keep the knowledge of what they were out of the hands of the humans. Not because she didn’t hope that one day the two races would be able to merge, and then work towards a union with the Fae but because she knew based on what she had seen happen between the Blood Thieves, that neither side really was ready to accept the changes, another point proven with the Paladins.
Yet none of this prepared her for what she was and had been dealing with and to be honest, she was sick of hearing everyone telling her ‘Love hurts’ she knew that. What was truly worst was the false ‘You can win him’ she knew now that would never happen. Maybe if she had been a mystic it would have but even then she doubted it deep down. What was even worse than that was that she was dishonoring her family… that she was disrespecting her culture and everything she believed in and a part of her didn’t care at all. She had found someone to teach her things, because all she had wanted was Odin to see her and want to be with her. Sadly she was giving up, there was no longer a point in trying.
‘But…’ She lifted her head as her hair fell around her, the sparks of a plan beginning to form in her mind. She wanted to laugh; at just how awful of a person she really was, instead she chewed her lower lip as she began to mentally list everything she would need to pull this off. What she would need to do to even pull it off, “I can have his heart…” she couldn’t help but smile as she whispered those words.
Quickly unfolding herself she went to her closet, there were a handful of things she would never have bought herself, or ever had thought to wear. Yet Luffy and later Colly had gotten these things for her, and she was working on making herself more comfortable with her body, it was a slow process, most likely painfully slow.
She smiled softly; Luffy was a good teacher and a good friend even if the man sometimes had her turning red from head to toe among other things, when it came to trying to get her what she had wanted, truly wanted. Selfish, he had said it was alright to be and this time she would be. Truly would be selfish when it came to taken Odin’s heart.
Pulling out the item that she had actually chosen without realizing what it really was she gave a small nod of her head. It was embarrassing still when she thought about. Thinking that she was picking something that was no different than what she had saw Kira wear about in the city. Only to be told by Odin that it wasn’t that at all… and of course did she believe him when he said it? No. Why? Because she was positive at the time he was just mad at her but Luffy had informed her he was right. That had been awful, not only had she thought Odin was just mad at her not realizing that he was yet again protecting her. She had put it on ready to walk out of the store with nothing but it on.
Slipping it on she still felt awkward, she was sure it showed in how she held herself and made her feel pathetic. ‘How do they do this?’ she had seen dresses in that store that was worse than this, showing everything. So in the end this hadn’t been nearly as bad, Luffy had said that some did walk around wearing them in public. Not that she could figure out why, once she knew what it was.
Taken two deep breaths, she went about getting ready. Hair dried and held in place not with hairpins but with scalpels. Her face painted in a China doll look, the only other style outside of painting her face white with black lipstick. Not exactly something you went out in. She mentally told herself that she would be able to do this; she could play the role, ‘Always a role’ she watched as her reflection sat down as she stared at the woman that was her but the part of her where everything got buried and hidden.
‘But it will be our best role ever, Rabbit’
‘It could get us killed, Dragon’
‘So what’s a little trip to the Shadow Realm? We’ll play down there, change everything and get those who are still down there completely turned around.’
She rolled her eyes as she sat down, her mind thinking of how easy it was for her to slip into a role. To play out something instead of just trying to figure out whom she was because of fear of what that might truly mean. The only things that she knew truly knew about herself; were that she wanted to be safe, that she liked to learn and that she liked cutting and being cut by Odin. True that went a bit further, she liked being useful to those who were trying to learn their abilities, even being willing to being a punching bag or at least she believed she did, she wasn’t sure sometimes if it was a cultural habit or truly her own desires. She knew she liked a few other things as well but would she had bothered to learn any of those things if it hadn’t been forced on her? The chance was very high that she wouldn’t have.
Taken one last look at herself in the mirror with her reflection staring at her nails she sighed and got up, hitting the switch that would make the mirror more like a webcam feed before sitting back down and looking herself over. She didn’t look that bad even if she said so herself. She could do this, she could. Hadn’t her first kiss with Odin been when she was dressed up as a play on with Harley Quinn? This wasn’t much different. Nothing would happen other than she would have his heart… and she might be pretty close to a trip to the shadow realm because of it. She was pretty certain of that. Turning the switch again she was greeted with an extremely pissed off reflection.
“Sorry…” she whispered as she went over to her bed pulling out tradition style Chinese shoes and a katana, putting the shoes on she sat the sword on the bed. Now all she had to do was get the rest of the things she was going to need. Pulling out a bag she sat it on the bed and made her way back to her closet, pulling a switch watching as the wall moved before she stepped inside and began digging for the medical supplies she would need.
Once she was sure she had everything and had put into the bag, she wrapped the shadows around her and made her way down to Odin’s room. He wasn’t there. She felt her chest ache again, but pushed it down. He was rarely home anymore, not since she had used Alexandrea to help her understand the process of fadeling development, which had resulted in her dying from it. Not that she had meant to harm the woman of course but that had been the end result and one she would have to deal with for centuries if she lived that long.
Picking up his clock she sighed, she wouldn’t have much time to get to his apartment… not unless she teleported over, she chewed her lip for a moment before making up her mind she would just have to do that, she didn’t want to risk losing the protection of the shadows and getting caught in her little red outfit, not even if Harley Quinn herself had prance around in something very much like this.
Closing her eyes she focus on the apartment building, and found herself of course in the bushes, upside down of all things, muttering under her breath she gathered her things, thankful she was still hidden in the shadows as she made her way inside and up to his apartment. She was mentally thankful she didn’t have to juggle a key just a door knob as she made her way inside. It was quiet but still she liked this place and what he had done with it. Not that she ever stayed in the guest rooms; no she always took over his room. Not for any other reason but that she had a fear of waking up next to someone she didn’t know in his guest room while she was there.
Making her way down the hall she slipped open his door. Thanking the Ancestors he was there and most of all, alone. She chewed her lower lip as she stared at him from the doorway, she couldn’t back out. Not now, she had to do this. Putting things down carefully to not wake him or make a sound, out of fear that he would catch her before she had put everything in its proper place. One that was did and done she checked over everything once more and knew she was ready to begin the process. A process which would likely result in him beat the living **** out of her.
She closed her eyes at the thought of him causing harm to her sent mix emotions racing up and down her body. She kept telling herself that it wouldn’t be for fun… that there would be no pleasure it would be to truly harm her this time. That almost made her put it all to a stop.
‘No!’ she mentally screamed at herself as she slid the katana near but out of sight, ‘I’ll never have it any other way.’ She took two very deep breaths and allowed the shadows to fade away from her. Yet she couldn’t make herself move towards him. Instead she found herself tugging at the edge of her fabric, trying to build up the courage. Even when everything inside of her screamed at her that he was never going to forgive her… not after this. She could wait, she should wait… but neither things seemed to be true for her anymore, she didn’t have her Nana’s strength. She had to be able to say, she had his heart… even if it meant of course, that she actually physically did, so she could move on. One last deep breath and she stepped slowly towards him.
Just stared at him as he lay asleep or perhaps he was in a trance, she hoped he wasn’t in a trance. She wanted him to be awake, ‘I want him to hurt me… one last time.’ She felt herself wanting to cry but told herself he didn’t like it and was for the time being able to stop the tears from falling.
Sitting down lightly on the bed her fingers began to trail across his arm as she leaned over, “Odin.” She closed her eyes trying to push the emotions that were screaming to cry out, she wouldn’t allow them to do so, not until it was all did and done. She had to keep her focus. “Odin…” she lightly kissed his cheek, she told herself to say something else besides his name but she found it hard, she closed her eyes as she pressed her lips against his, a soft gentle kiss. Once again saying his name, before pulling herself away looking away from him, she had to focus. ‘Why do you make this so hard?’
She looked back at him given him, when she heard him stir, making sure it was one of her best smiles in hopes that there was no sign of sadness, of despair, and of hopelessness. “I need something from you…” she looked away again, lowering her head in submission, “you can’t deny me this one thing…” she felt her that knife again, twisting further into her, “…I will never ask you for anything again…” she wanted to cry out as it felt like the knife had been pulled out and found a new place that she hadn’t realized could be there twisting it in.
Taken a deep breath to help her calm herself and force the pain deep down inside of her. ‘I have to do this; I have too, no matter how much it hurt to look at him, to know he wasn’t meant to be with me. That no matter how much I wanted it to be so, I have to do this.’ She wouldn’t fight for him, she just wouldn’t, and she wasn’t the kind to fight… not even when she really wanted something… because she didn’t even have a damn clue how to fight for something like this. She wasn’t even sure if it was even right to fight for it. No… she was sure it would only be right if they had been dating and they weren’t. They never had and never likely would.
Turning she looked at him she said the one thing that she hadn’t prepared in her mind to ask him “Kiss me…” she sat there staring at him, ‘Then… then I will take it from him.’ I will take all the hate he will have towards me after that and deal with it for all the years to come. She felt herself tearing up and told herself not too, “please… just… kiss me.”
Yet the comments about how they would be good together, didn’t mean anything to her then or now. She just smiled it off, just like every time someone told her they liked him. It was easy to just smile it off, and why? It was simple she had always thought that deep down he would ever like anyone, including herself. How wrong she had been.
