I had the urge to do something today. What that was I had no clue. Which bothered me because I was so bored out of my god damned mind. I plopped on my bed nearly missing my cat, Two-Tone, who hissed and pounced on my hand and started to claw and bite in retaliation.
“OW! You stupid thing stoppit! I didn't mean it! Stahhhhhpppp!” I gave her a good thunk on the head with my free hand and she stopped, glaring bloody, poisoned daggers at me. My eyes rove over my scratched up hand, glad to see there was no actual blood spillage- this time.
“Grrr... stupid thing.” I glare right back at her.
My eyes are drawn to the glowing of my cellphone up near my pillow and hope soars through me. Maybe someone had something for me to do? Daddy? Serenity? Anybody?! I dive towards it but apparently too fast for Two-ey's liking because as soon as I landed on the bed again she pounced on my head and started attacking my hair.
“Gah. Stahhhppp it!!” I get a hold of her and rather unceremoniously toss her into the chair by the fish tank. She hisses at me but luckily one of the bigger fish in the tank swam by and she went into stalking mode. Good. Damned thing. I check my phone with high hopes but those were soon dashed as I found that there were no messages. My phone was just being stupid and lighting up again for no reason.
A growl escapes my lips and I throw the phone to the other side of the bed and plop down after it, landing on my back and looking upside down at Two-ey in the chair.
“My... what big eyes you have....”
~All the better to eat you with, my dear.~ came the reply in my head. Her eyes were freaking huge... she was in hunter mode, in a trance. I read somewhere that people's eyes change too when their in attack mode. Their pupils dilate or something. As I sit up, I realize I now have the urge to read 'Little Red Riding Hood'. And a lot of the other stories Mamma used to read to me as a child. My eyes sadly wander over my bookshelf that had more knick-knacks than books. I'd have to change that.
I stand up and grab my purse to discover I don't have any cash on me and don't feel like going to the bank... hmm... library! I nod in agreement with myself and then hunt through my drawers for something to wear out, seeing as I was still in my pjs. After dressing I check myself in the mirror to admire
my outfit, then grabbed my phone and ran into the bathroom to do my hair and make-up. I was getting annoyed with having to use a camera to check my make-up but at least it was helping me to better judge where to put the crap. The girl's face was different than my own. I poke my tongue out at the girl in the mirror before I left and flicked off the light, ruffled Two-ey's fur, slid into my little leather jacket, grabbed my purse and shoes to put on downstairs, and was off to the library.
~+~ ~+~ ~+~
I arrived at the looming steps of the library and hustled my way up them. It was a wee bit chilly tonight. I slip through the front doors and stood off to the side, looking around. It was a rather nice library, I thought to myself as I shivered a bit. My eyes roam over everything and I try to orientate myself as to where I needed to be. I didn't see anyone working behind the counter which was a shame, seeing as I needed a library card. I did see a few people bustling around though which meant I wasn't alone and the place was indeed open.
I spy a computer terminal at the start of a section of books, which I assumed like other libraries it was a catalog computer. I looked up a few of the childrens' books I wanted and some of their adult counterparts and took a little scrap of paper they provide and scribble as much down as I can on a couple of them with a nubby pencil. Satisfied with my 'pile' of books I set about the library to find them. The adult ones were rather easy to find, all in their proper place with proper labeling. Score! I glanced through them as I headed to the children's section. Most of them were scholarly discussions on the subject of fairy tales but a few were 'dark' fairy tales. As I continued on I realized I could start a research paper – or at least take notes – on all the fairy tales that I know and love. How exciting!
I approached what looked like the 'teens' section from the back as it was quickest route to the children's section from where I had been. It had a rather comfy looking sitting area- much more friendly too compared to the dull adult section with the much more cheerful colors and nice squishy chairs, and tons of magazines on hand. A young blonde was sitting reading a magazine, looking rather troubled. I frowned at seeing such a young face so sad but a pinch in my arm reminded me I had several rather heavy books in my arms and I needed to set them down somewhere if I wanted to continue my hunt.
I smile at the girl in case she happens to look up and quietly set my jacket and books down in a chair a bit away from her. I know I hated when random people crowded my space so I didn't wanna do that to someone else. Luckily the children's section was literally right next to the sitting area so I scurried over, my boots making a soft hush sound on the carpet. As it turns out, this is a children's section and nothing is where it's supposed to be. My heart sank but I persisted on and eventually found almost everything I was looking for some time later. Twenty minutes, maybe? I tucked the little slip of paper into my purse that was still on my shoulder and check the only place I had left to check- the section facing the sitting area. This definitely wasnt the area it was supposed to be in but, I had to look. The catalog said it hasn't been checked out. My chocolate eyes roam over the spines of the rather beaten up books towards the top of the shelf and I spot it – -Tales of the Brothers Grimm-! And right next to it -Grimm's Fairy Tales-. Hmm... I wonder why that one didn't show up in the computer.
It was rather close to where the girl was sitting and rather high up on the shelf. I huffed to myself and wondered how I'd get to it with out making a lot of noise. I attempted to stretch and use my finger tips but no go. I tried again and was more successful, actually being able to grab the -Tales of the Brothers Grimm- feeling like a million bucks at having completed my entire list, I yanked on the book. Baaaaaaddd idea. They must have been stacked and shelved so poorly and one on top of the other that after I yanked, several books came toppling down on top of me, pummeling my head a bit before I could cover myself.
“OW! God damn it. What the ****?!”
The books went flying all over the floor, and as I looked around and surveyed the damage, I noticed that oh.. only half the freaking shelf fell on me. And over the sitting area. And oh no...
“Ah crap. I'm sorry. They didn't get ya too did they?” I tossed the books I still held on to into my chair and hustle over and start to pick up the books I “dropped”, looking for that other Grimm book. I noticed the -Grimm's Fairy Tales- had actually landed by the girl's feet. I only recognized it as the Grimm book because of the pictures of the open pages were of Red Riding Hood. The book was a graphic novel. No wonder it didn't show up in the 'books'. Oh well. Still worth a read.
“You mind handing me that book? That was one of the ones I was trying to reach.” I didnt wanna invade her personal space anymore than the volcano of books had so I stayed where I was a couple feet away and picked up a few more books before re-shelving them.
