Sexy..did he just call her sexy? That was a word that had never been in use with her before. Not in either body that she had owned. Was she sexy? She didn’t see it...maybe she was though. Eyes widened a little as she was lifted onto the coffin and his hands explored over her legs. Hands came to rest atop his, stopping them in their tracks. She loved this man...loved the night they were spending together, but he was pushing too far for their first time having met. This isn’t how she wanted it all to happen.

His response...she didn’t like it. She didn’t like it at all. He didn’t want to be a vampire...he wanted to be more alive? She would have to argue that she never felt more alive than she does now. “But, I’m just as alive as you are, minus the beating heart and working organs and all that stuff. There is nothing you can do that I cannot...I can just do so much more.” There were too few of them? What the heck did he mean by that? Humans were everywhere. “What do you mean there are too few of you? There are tons of humans...we are way outnumbered!. You know...if you were a vampire, you could be a good vampire. You could work hard on making things better for both races.”

As she placed her hands on his he turned his hands around to take her hands in his. It seemed he was going to fast for her right now. “I know you are very much alive. And delicious..” he placed another light kiss on her lips, then took a little step back, his hands still holding hers. “Nothing I can do that you cannot do? Is that a challenge?” He grinned, then grew a bit more serious at her next remark.

Did he accidentally give away too much about what he was, should he tell her already? “There are plenty of humans, yes. But they are sheep. Cattle for you to feed on. But there are very few who know, very few who are really able to hold their own in a city like this. The rest is only civilians. Vampires on the other hand almost always know how to fight.”

He smiled at her as she talked about making things better for everyone. He wasn’t such a good guy as she thought he was. Being good only gave you heartache. “I’d enjoy working with you being what I am, and you being what you are. We are what we are, why should we desire to change that?”

It wasn't a challenge but she would prove herself of she needed to. "Name one thing you can do that I cannot? ... Other than playing in the sun... That hurts." She watched him a few moments... "How is it you are so able to protect yourself? We are much stronger than you."

He might not be a 'good guy' but she really did try her hardest to be mostly good. "It'd be easier to work together if you were like me. I'm not so sure you'd be accepted like this... Not to spend huge amounts of time with me at least. Humans can't be trusted... That's how it is seen." She had started thinking about what had family would think of this... What Papi would think. But more than that, what they would do.

“That’s easy”, he said with a grin, “I guess you can’t barbecue blood. Pork on the other hand, mutton, beef, chicken, turkey, buffalo, alligator, seafood, and in dire emergency even vegetables, can all be marinated and grilled. That’s the stuff I like, with some hot sauce and a glass of whiskey. “

There were many more things he was able to do that he thought she couldn’t. Some of them them trivial like pissing out a chandelier that’s dangling from the ceiling, other based on skill, like hacking, or spectacular feats of gun handling. And then there were of course his special powers like feeding on a vampire or making a vampire’s blood dry up - which was the most awesome fuckin’ thing one could imagine. He was just about to think up tasks for her that were challenging enough for her to earn the knowledge of these secrets. He felt that he could share with her, he didn’t want to yet call it love but there were very strong feelings for her building up inside him.

Her next words were like a sobering smack in the face.

Maybe he needed this smack because he had been acting like a fool. All the playful mood of the tasks, all the gentleness of the touches and kisses they had exchanged was wiped of his face.

‘Humans can't be trusted’

Was there any better way to tell him he’s been a complete idiot to share so much with her, allow himself to trust her that much. Suddenly he remembered the suspicions he had earlier this evening, how he was wondering if it all was a trap. Now that seemed so damn likely. Was it possible that some vampire or group of vampires had send her after him to either find out more about him or make him one of them. At least that sounded like the most reasonable explanation for all that happened this night.

“I am as likely to stop being human as I am likely to change the color of my skin or change my gender.” He said coldly, sternly, turning away from her.

Technically, the girl could do those things...she could marinate all those foods he considered delicious and even eat them. It was a gift that not many vampires had, but it was passed down to her from her own sire. She however purposely stayed away from human food, unless necessary. She didn’t particularly enjoy it anymore. Just recently someone had baked her a cake...while she appreciated it, she could only muster a few bites. Eating without tasting, it’s just not worth it.

Yes, there were other talents and abilities anyone could do that she couldn’t...everyone had different talents. But she meant what basic things could humans do that she could not. She was not aware of his supernatural powers. She was not aware that he was anything but a knowledgeable human. Kaelyn had many powers that he was not aware of, just as he did. Maybe over time they’d share, they’d get to see those things from each other.

Her words had not been spoken to hurt or upset him. She wasn’t even talking about herself i particular when she said that humans couldn’t be trusted. It was something that she was taught since becoming a vampire. In that time, two humans had been brought into her life...both having been turned not too long after, due to the fact that they couldn’t just be let go of. The knowledge of them couldn’t just be handed over. Her thoughts and ideas of Stagger becoming a vampire had nothing to do with the trust issue though, she just wanted him safe. She wanted to know personally that nothing truly bad could happen, that she couldn’t really lose him. Kaelyn was in love with this man. She, at least with this spell happening, fully trusted him. Would this trust last after the spell wore off, who knew.

The entire atmosphere changed as Stagger pulled away from her, turned from her. His voice had gone from the sweet tones that caressed her ears to a harsh, coldness that made everything within her drop. The smiles and blushes and giddiness that she had around him, disappeared instantly. Her face drooped to a look of complete sadness, disappointment, even shock. The one thing she hated more than anything was to upset...to disappoint. It was her biggest downfall, the inability to handle the fact when she disappointed someone she loved. A hand reached out to him, fingers grasping for the man’s arm.

“You’re upset with me...please, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you. You don’t have to be a vampire...I just want you to be safe. I don’t want bad things to happen to you.” Her free hand quickly wiped at her eyes as tears started to prickle them. “I don’t want you to change your skin color or your gender or anything about you...even though that could happen to me...I just...I want you safe.” The fact that he thought she didn’t trust him never registered in her mind. She didn’t realize that was the problem.

“I do appreciate your offer. I am sure the gift of immortality is something given lightly. But don’t bring it up again” He spoke, turning back towards her. Seeing her cry moved something inside him, and part of him cursed himself for falling for it.

Yes of course, it was possibly that she indeed was speaking the truth. Anyway he didn’t like the way of being turned at all, even less so after the forcible turning of his best friend.

He had been so close to ask Kaelyn to leave after what she said. But he liked this young woman in front of him so much already that he decided to give her one more chance, but he’d be much more vigilant now.

Gently he placed a little kiss on her forehead, his arms softly touching her upper arms. “If you like we can go on with our little game of tasks and questions. But with one change. I think we asked enough about vampires and humans and all that existential stuff by now. But there is still a lot I want to find out about the person you are. Beside the supernatural. Okay with that?”

Her head nodded just a little as she used both hands now to wipe at her eyes and cheeks. “I won’t, I’m sorry I upset you.” She chewed on her bottom lip a little as feet stared at the floor. The girl didn’t quite know what to do. She had said too much, too soon. Maybe forever would be too soon with him. She shouldn’t have talked to him about it like that, especially not the first night they even met.

Quietly, she slid down off of the coffin to stand by him. He wanted to continue the game...even after she messed everything up. If they continued now, it’d be much more personal. It wouldn’t be all about what they were and were not. Her head nodded once again. She would continue. She did want to get to know him better, and it’d be nice to be able to share a little about herself. However, this meant...he might really get to know her and then he’d be gone. Once he found out about her life before this, her age, the fact this wasn’t her body...any of that...he’d be gone. This had her slightly panicking on the inside. But she would agree. Maybe he wouldn’t ask her anything too difficult. “Yeah...we can play. I’ll behave, I’m sorry.”

“Yes you better behave or you gonna end up getting a good spanking”, he said with a little smile on his face, already playful with her again, even though he was a bit more cautious now. He let his fingers travel along her arms gently, fingertips caressing her skin.

He pondered what to ask next. Even though he was always curious to find more about vampires he knew he’d ask nothing like that now. Anything that endangered the masquerade even more would increase the risk of either him or her - or both - ending up dead because of it.

So he instead decided to ask something differently, to steer the conversation away from vampire issues. Pulling her little closer he said, “tell me what was your most disappointing date so far. And I hope you won’t say its this one”

She blinked a few times. Had be really just said he was going to spank her? Was he joking or serious? She hadn't been spanked by anyone but her mother and that had even been years since that had happened. He was joking. He had to be. He was back to being friendly, flirty and close again, so she just let it go.

Fingers hooked around belt loops as she stood close with him again. She was happy not to be talking about her vampiric life now. She wouldn't be tempted to tell him everything. Kaelyn always loved to talk. She would bug anyone about almost anything...but she was usually very careful with what all she said and to who. However, with Stagger...she couldn’t seem to help herself. She wanted him to know everything. The change of topic was a blessing.

It did send her into slight shock for a moment. She froze and then furrowed her brow. After clearing the expression from her face, she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and looked up at him. “Well honestly...this is the only date I have ever been on.” She hadn’t realized this was a date at first. But since he considered it one, she would as well...and it made her excited. She was actually on a date with someone! And not just anyone...with the man she loved.

“You’ve never been..?” He asked surprised. She was a very attractive girl in her late teens. There must have been plenty of boys after a girl like her. Well maybe she really had a very religious upbringing or grew up in a very isolated spot.

As she didn’t ask him a question of her own yet, he decided to follow up his question with a second one for clarification. His fingers gently ran through her hair, tracing the strand she had just tucked away, as he asked: “So that means you have never been with a man before?”

He looked into her eyes drinking in deeply the sweet innocence of this beautiful young woman. Could it really be she was that pure and untouched?
