Re: Chapter Questions
The writing will always take a back seat. I know I'm sounding negative, but again. 1 percent per kill, rpp I can get .2 a percent due to the cap.
So, it's an unfair mechanic, really.
There should be a removal of the rpp exchange during chapter events, really imo.

Re: Chapter Questions
David may decide to slow down the NPC % by a small amount. Ultimately, the side with the greater amount of support and/or best strategy is going to win.
I'm not saying he necessarily will change anything, but David wants very much (from what I understand) to keep things as fair and balanced as possible. Ultimately the chapter pacing is going to play a part in that.

Of course. No complaints with what you said up there.Azraeth wrote:David may decide to slow down the NPC % by a small amount. Ultimately, the side with the greater amount of support and/or best strategy is going to win.

But again...why waste an hour posting to get at best .2 of a percent when I can kill stuff all day with a click and walk away with like a lot more percentage points?
That's like the chapter with the free level. Of course most went for the free level. I mean...really.

Re: Chapter Questions
I would love to see RP weighed more heavily, personally. Right now David is gathering data, and making adjustments based on that data. I suspect as he sees more about how the RP impacts the chapter, he's going to make necessary tweaks.

Re: Chapter Questions
Okay, but if the grid wins...rp doesn't matter does it? Because I and a great many others I suspect cannot write ten or more posts a day to offset how fast the grid is going. So the grid wins or loses, but those of us writing don't really impact anything in the end. I mean, you can't say someone reaches 100 percent on one side a week in, and then wait for a month to go by and then change the outcome...right?

Re: Chapter Questions
I think it is unfair to said.. rp doesn't matter. Just as much as it is unfair to say grid doesn't matter.
The rp matters. But sometimes we want to be the Hulk.. and SMASH! From an RP standpoint, I can see vampires saying.. this needs to be stopped and stopped now. No sitting around and debating it and having meeting after meeting about it. Its time to take names and kick some asses.
We haven't had a really good grid event in over a year. A year. Now we have an event.. lots of players who left.. are back to play.. on the grid. To slow that down.. now.. is like going into a play off game and taking the ball away .. and making the players wait.
There is a momentum going, players are excited for both sides. To slow it down, would be punitive to everyone having fun.
And Yes, maybe it will be over quickly. But David needs to see that. So that he has a better handle on future chapters. To nerf things.. in the middle of a momentum.. kills the fun.
Maybe chapters need to rolled out in sections. Rp set up.. for a few weeks.. then the Grid roll out. Make it like a scavenger hunt for clues that can only be found by hacking.. information only gets to players by rping.. then after a designated period of time.. Grid opens up when a vital clue is found during a hack.

Re: Chapter Questions
It can't matter. People cannot post as fast as they click and kill.
to go from 3 percent to 22-23 in less than 24 hours indicates as much. Great, I get .2 for each post of 500 words. Fantastic. At best I can do .4 percent to whatever side my character is on/for.
By the time I write anything of substance, the chapter is done.
The blast door is open. And the cure is whatever/wherever.
That cannot be changed. So, how can it impact a single thing once the grid side has done what it does?
Paint me skeptical.

I love that idea.Doc wrote:Maybe chapters need to rolled out in sections. Rp set up.. for a few weeks.. then the Grid roll out. I would like to see the RP influence bumped up slightly for this event, though, to encourage people to RP as well as grid. RP does take a bit more effort than pointing and clicking and it doesn't seem like it'd be unbalancing it to increase it to .3 or .4 per 500 words :)

Re: Chapter Questions
I felt the same way.. when the chapter about the rift happened.
It pitted IC perspective against the Grid Player's desire for levels.
I only know a few people that stayed true to their character and DIDNT take the level. The majority took the level. How was that fair? So trust me.. I understand your frustration.
Like I said, before, The roll out could staggered.. giving rp more time for a foundation set up, before the grid takes place.
But the only way to prove it.. is to have an experience to look back on.
Why are we staggering the roll outs? Because of chapter 6 it was over too fast. We have a new way of doing business. <-- Just an example. I do Not Speak for the game.
I just know nerfing things after they are started.. leaves players feeling annoyed and .. as you said skeptical.

Re: Chapter Questions
No one is asking for things to get nerfed, but if rp is sooooooo huge in a chapter (supposedly) then people shouldn't be expected to write something amazing in less than a week's time to impact something. It's completely unrealistic and you as a writer know that.Doc wrote:

But, I'm obviously going against the grain, so I'll just keep to myself and dwindle down on the writing effort since it'll all be done in a week anyways and ya know...a career, dr appointments for my current pregnancy and mommy duty at night kinda leaves me with limited path time these days anyways.
