Change was a good thing, though it too came with its share of complications. Bjørn was a firm advocate of sticking to whatever worked, but it was a matter of trial and error to find what did. He hummed at her response and glanced down at her, eyebrow perked.
“Everyone deserves a second chance,” he said, lopsided smile tugging at his features. “Plus I wouldn’t shoot someone over petty thievery, not unless they were ballsy enough to keep trying.” He chuckled privately at Rowan’s expense, sparing a thought her way.
“It’s the creeping that puts me on edge, you know? Too many things in this city creep.”

"Creep, bump, stalk, slay, and so much more."
Meara commented as she let her eyes wander back to the sidewalk in front of her. Almost immediately she noticed that there were tons of flashing lights ahead as well as some yellow police tape. Her steps slowed as she started to assess the road block to try to find a way around. Mea stopped at the next street corner and started peeling the other man's sweater off her frame as she kept an eye on the cops ahead. She'd narrowly missed a wound on her way out of the mall earlier in the evening, and she had no intention of chancing fate again. Starting tomorrow, she was going to take care to heed some of the suggestions Bjorn had passed down to her via his experiences. Perhaps she might have success.
"If I go further, I'm gonna get shot. I don't want to bleed on your clothes, so take this back." Mea folded it in half and reached to drape it over Bjorn's shoulder. "I promise that I'll come find you soon." Mea leaned in and gave the lanky man a warm hug before stepping back. Her fingers pulled a little book from the pocket of her satchel. She glanced around one last time. Slender finger popped the book open to the dog-eared page that had the spell scribbled into its pages.
"Bye Bjorn! See you soon."
As the ritual kicked in as she read the printed words, Meara vanished from sight; leaving only the faint aroma of peach rings in her wake.

Bjørn’s attention returned to their surroundings as her list widened his grin. There were all manner of freaks in this city, and for better or worse, they were subjected to that same label.
The telepath didn’t initially realise Meara’s hesitance to continue. The scene laid out before them caught his attention, a single brow cocking at the display. Curiosity piqued, he glanced down at her with a question heavy on his tongue. When he noticed her standing back, peeling the loose cardigan from her shoulders, he frowned. Her words clarified the situation before he need formulate a question.
Would they really shoot her on sight? Bjørn had had his own run-ins with the police, but he held no recollection of them assaulting him so publicly. Then again, there’d been that one time... He grabbed the folded cardigan, not keen on letting it hang from his shoulders, and was caught unexpectedly in a fleeting hug.
“Right, okay. Be safe,” he managed, catching up to what was happening as familiar words followed her greeting. As he stepped back and Meara vanished, Bjørn furrowed his brow. That was the sort of thing that would get her (and, in this case, him) noticed. He hazarded another glance around, relieved to find everyone’s attention drawn to the scene. Shifting the balled-up cardigan into his other hand, the telepath ducked through the crowds and made for the yellow tape.
