It's not that people haven't caught onto a good thing. It's that the thing isn't good
Yes it is.
Point that I elaborated above: tracking does not actually improve leveling in any way.
Yes it does.

Are thralls better? Maybe. But they run out of energy, and they don't give experience points every time they are used.

But at level 40 is the xp worth it? I don't know the break-down in numbers tbh as, well none of mine have tracking, but from what people are saying, it doesn't seem to be? Even when Ric had a 7 in it and tracked a little bit, I honestly saw more return in just killing ****.

I see it as a case of every little helps if you want to level faster than your competition. And the idea of tracking is to kill ****, lol.

Thing is, and not to be That Guy or anything, but I've been looking at the numbers quoted. If tracking takes ~2.6 energy to do it follows that inside a building that's ~26 moves at 0.1 energy per move. Chances are that you can find something within 26 moves (which I always, always have) making blindly wandering around more energy efficient than using tracking. And that's without taking into consideration that to max out tracking to get the most cost effective version you need ~14 levels (two skill points until 10, one thereafter). If you're using a wraith/human thrall/whatever to do the wandering around to find the enemies for you, chances are good that you'll run out of energy fighting the things before your helper runs out of energy wandering around.

On the point of every little helps, how much exp do you get from a successful tracking attempt at skill level 20? And how does that compare to the other skills? Other than rituals. Exp gain from them is basically non-existent, so I can't see anyone looking to level efficiently using them.

Yes. Agreed.

Yes this is what I typically find.

However I will say.. that I never hunted Fadebeasts with Doc's tracker but a couple of times. If tracker will let you pinpoint fadebeasts that could be more experience beneficial.

At 13 tracking. Doc couldn't get close enough to a location; so for me personally.. as a player.. I would get frustrated, and rather kill 4 enemies no tracker needed (Mooncalves 50 exp ea. in the catacombs) and get the double exp than the one fadebeast (100 exp) gave; for the same amount of energy spent without using tracker.

The above was based on October 2013 - other things to fight have been added to the game since that time.

Show me some numbers and maybe I'll believe you. I gave you hard numbers and you're retorting with what you think. I mean, I get that you coded it, but what you intended and what actually is seem to be two different things. I'm not going to pay to restat my character to show you the hard data, but if you want me to test it, toss some Karma my way and I'll give you a week worth of raw data/exp for each scenario.

All my arguments have been based on hunting in the castle, and I've never had a thrall run out of energy when hunting in the castle.

Hope you guys can make sense ofthis;
Alittle research into tracking:
Done with a Paladin on test server

Range & energy cost:

Track - 10 = all npcs (4,8), Character (4,8), = range
Track - 12/13 = all npcs (5,10), Character (5,10),
Track - 14 = all npcs (5,10), Character (5,10), direction given if target is 5 sq or less from track point. (inside)
Track - 15/16/17 = all npcs (5,10), Character (5,10), direction given every successful track. .4 energy all tracks
Track - 18/19 = all npcs (5,10), Character (5,10),direction given every successful track. .3 energy all tracks
Track - 20 = all npcs (5,10), Character (5,10),direction given every successful track. .2 ENERGY all tracks

Tracking for specific NPCs outside is not efficient due to range even at level 20

outdoors track

each track costs .2 + 1 energy to move from tracking point to tracking point. exp gain is like 6 max for 3.6 energy.

Tracking for specific NPCs inside is not efficient due to directional responses being too non specific because of range and interior layout. Red boX shows where a located Shifter could be given a NW response.

level 20/track shifter

even in a more square interior, although i think it would be easier to find the target, it still isn't very specific

level 20/track

Experience/level 20.

OUTSIDE:
1 EXP TRACK ANY NPC
1 EXP TRACK SPECIFIC NPC
1-2 EXP TRACK SPEcIFIC NON-NPC
1-2 EXP TRACK ANY NON-NPC

INSIDE:
0 EXP TRACK ANY NPC
0 EXP TRACK SPECIFIC NPC
1-3 EXP TRACK SPEIcFIC NON-NPC
1-3 EXP TRACK ANY NON-NPC

.2 energy: 2 exp (at bes)t = 1 energy:10 exp not good!
