I pout as he tells me I don't taste all that good. i can't believe that. Even the bagged blood tasted good when I was hungry and that stuff had chemicals in. Dillon's blood tasted way better but I couldn't allow myself to think about that. Blood was distracting. Especially since I hadn't really figured out just how much I should be drinking or how often yet. I was probably drinking way more than was necessary but then I wasn't going to worry about that. I focus instead on the insult and wonder if he's purposely being mean to me now to make me go away.
The guy then goes on to tell me I don't know how to phrase a question. Me. I shake that one off right away. I wasn't the one that was socially inept. If I wanted answers I could get them. Maybe sometimes I didn't take the direct approach or I took too much of a direct approach but either way I usually got what I wanted. I could be a bit of a pain that way. Bugging people till I get what I want. Information. A favour. Yet another drink as I left my wallet at home, again. It was a skill and he wasn't about to persuade me I didn't have that.
That's when the guy turns into a complete arse. He basically fobs me off, tells me I'm lucky to be alive and shows me the door. My nose crinkles as I try not to overreact to this. In some ways he's right. I am lucky to be alive, I should have died on stage and yet here I was. What he was talking about was different. It wasn't death from what I could tell, so much as some sort of purgatory.
"Right. Whatever. You just flake out me. You said if I followed you, you'd talk to me and answer my questions. I do that and you tell me to wait till we get here. We get here and then you attack me. You're a lying arsehole but you can believe I deserved it if that's going to help you sleep when the sun comes up."
I move to push past him. He's an arse but then I remember I'm forgetting something; my guitar. So I double back and pick up the case. With my back to him I roll my eyes. I had been stupid and naive but then I was who I was and that probably wasn't going to change any time soon. Surely there had to be some nice vampires out there somewhere. From what'd been told there were a fair few of us after all.
I surprise myself with what i do next, as I find myself opening the guitar case and retrieving a pen. I pat at my pockets but soon realise the only paper I have on me is the currency kind. I find a dollar bill and write my name and number on it and then I snap the case closed, having put the pen back inside.
"Here."
I push past Ric and shove the bill into his free hand. I'm now walking backwards so I face him as I back up towards the door.
"In case you grow a conscience and decide to actually honour our agreement. Good thing we don't need to breathe right, else I'd probably die holding my breath for your call. Take care Ric."
Having said what I wanted to say, I turn my back to him - probably not the best idea but if he wanted to kill me he'd of likely done it already - push the bar door open and walk out into the night air.
Am I strong enough?
