Then you're doing something wrong, because many characters make 10k+ per day (which they have stated, and is true looking at the database). There was a point when Helly was crafting and hacking that I'd be unlucky NOT to earn 10k a day.
People who run 3 businesses per day make 10k+ per day. Anyone else? Nope.

So if by doing something wrong, you mean I'm not doing the thing that you created to be high profit, low EXP, then yes, I'm doing something wrong. <.<

The other problem is that Crafting/Rituals require a variety of stuff, so I have to hoard most of Nix's stuff. We also aren't told what is a useful item versus an item you created to have no purpose other than resale, so I have to pack rat.

B+E nets you the most cash. One B+E into a factory can net you over 5K if you sell on the AH.

Rituals nets you nothing, and loses you money. The only rituals that will make you money are the binding/severing rituals which only a handful of charries have. None of the other rituals are worth a thing, because everyone has them and none of them are really worth casting daily or multiple times. Not for what it would cost to make it worthwhile on either end of the discussion.

Killing - depends on what you're killing and where. I just made 20K selling off all the crappy swords CC had picked up. But that was 20K from 2 or 3 weeks worth of collecting swords. The loot you get from the drops aren't worth much in the slightest.

Hacking - Depends on skill. I've seen some people - like me - getting $100 from a hack. While others are getting 3 or 4K for it.

Business - I'm getting an average of 3K a business every day. Robert and CC have 2 businesses each and one is a millionaire and the other is about to be - both have spent about a mill each, minimum, on properties and items too. Having a job, can get you anywhere from $200 a day to over $1K a day. Depends on what the owner has their settings at. Charlotte has a job, never had a business and B+E's and sells on the AH. She's got over 500K in her account and has bought property - and she's been played for about a year now.

So if you're looking for cash - business and B+E is def the way to go. Then once you have cash, go into rituals - cause that's just a money pit.

And for those who make it to the level but can't even come up with a quarter of the money because they spent it on getting things for the hacking/B&E and rituals because those levels needed are not high enough to obtain the items in question and prices of said items are jacked up to high to afford like the auctions are now. 2000 for simple things seems a standard on the auction lately. Now if you need more then one but only make 5k a day, buying 3 puts you in the negative for 1 day. Compile that onto a span of many days for those who constantly do these things.

Phew :))
I'm not sure I agree with the idea that a newbie would quit because they can't gain the best powers in the game within the first year of playing. If anything, other MMOs have taught me that the longer it takes to reach the max level, get all the powers, and get the best gear, the longer people stick around.
That one was a more generalised point, to be fair. For me, it's not just about the best stuff. It's to get basically anything. Which, given who has posted something supporting my point that making 5-10k is unlikely, seems to be supported by some high leveled, high earning characters' players. The issue is that yes, it is theoretically possible to make that much, but as my characters (and thus I myself) have found - there's always going to be someone that can provide the same service for free, making demand to pay for the things you can do/make/find low and that impacts one's earning ability, especially in the early game when funding is the most important.
Plus, if the auto auction price is 1 million, you can be sure that people will find a mastery shard they don't want and sell it for 500-750k at auction to undercut the autoauction. I believe that it will work out quite well, in all respects.
Unless, of course, there aren't any up for auction at that point and they know people will pay basically anything for one. Which, granted, is how the free market works - the rich get richer and the poor get screwed :P

I'm just going to throw out there that at least 4-5 of the 25 people with over a million in bank also do graphics work. That has nothing to do with game mechanics.

Dandelion, Sundial's thrall makes 3-8k a day doing stuff that is easy enough for any character to do.
  • B & E in sec 0-1 buildings. Easy to pick up 10-12 nuts and bolts a day which sell fast at 750 each.
  • Stealth raids, which take place almost every day, are great for making cash.
  • Battle/Team raids, picking up items, especially after it's ended & the crowd has left, power mods, copper pipe & weapons.
  • Wallets & other in-town items add up, too. Dande has found 2 relics laying on the ground.

Nix could easily have Dopple out doing ALL of the above, while Nix kills ****, duelz people & hoards her ritual ingrediants. :))

Business' seem to rake in a crazy amount of money, but running 3 business' also costs you pretty much all your energy for the day. Rarely do you see the business big wigs out doing fun stuff like raids. Personally, I would rather do stuff than make piles of money, in game.

1 million is alot of money for most of the charrys in the game. But, if the shards are really going to be something awesome. then I'm ok with having to pay that much. There's never been much to spend game cash on; Relics, Real estate & Interiors (if you can find someone that will take game cash for) have pretty are pretty much it. Personally, when you buy your 6th or 7th apartment ot kinda loses its glamour, so having something to work and save for gives more dimension to it all, for me.

I'm just glad that Fae Shards aren't gonna be Karma only items. >.>

Oh, and clarification please; To unlock mastery in all paths will cost Fae Shards OR to unlock mastery for your own path will cost Fae Shards?

I do better than 10 k some days, but the trade off is lousy progress exp wise. 125exp times 3 (if you answer all 3 questions good) sounds good but at the high level Zo is, it barely boosts her 0.5% 60 energy for 0.5% exp gain. The muscle types can make that in less than 10-12 energy total I would guess.

So to counter this a touch, the more physical people can tackle the larger problems and npc's out there, gain more exps plus get items someone like Zodiac could never hope to get out of a fight cause the npc would wipe the floor with her, so she is forced to buy them if she needs them at the inflated prices people post stuff for. I am not saying bad on anything here, but 'warriors' have the ability to gain good cash and exp while others like mine might make the money, but get nowhere fast in developing and leveling.
Some day I'm gonna be happy. I don't know when just now

Oh I'm not complaining about any of this. My focus is totally on EXP gain over money, but with over a mil in her bank account, Nix manages to do just find with both. She may, on average, make about 3k/day, but with monthly relic sales/trades, she's well over that. But she's hardly the rule in the game. My other characters don't do nearly as well, especially Lamprey who's maxed out rituals and really has no use whatsoever for it. Ariel likely can make about 5-6k/day in stuff doing B&E.

I'm not actually trying to argue either direction here, I'm just pointing things out. <.<
