Not particularly, considering vampires can have six paths which is a huge advantage over almost any combination of human even with one side of mastery power. So even if I were to double down on, say, Charles crafter, who already got the faeshard by OOC reasons, and got the extra mastery power, he'd be at a disadvantage to my telepath vampire power wise because the telepath already has most of a bridge power down and moving onto having a second path.
Admittedly, I can still understand why not to allow automatically opening up the mastery powers. I just think that it would be a lot more incentive to double down for characters who don't have as much focus on money, or simply can't manage to get large amounts of it except very slowly.

Six paths and increasing PXP costs for those powers vs being able to chuck 100 odd PxP into exp during the last 6x exp day or two. Swings and roundabouts. I did post somewhere else that I thought I had perhaps done myself out of a good thing because I was never going to be able to get mastery powers from a second class, even if those mastery powers cost 300 PxP minimum. So yes, double downs need something, but $2m seems high... extra mastery power, sooner/now rather than later feels closer to right to me.
