Re: Team Huffle Badger [Chapter 7]

Renard was not a physically affectionate person most of the time. He did not enjoy handshakes, or high fives, or the occasional slap on the back - though those were generally tolerated. Anything that required more contact than something brief to the point of being almost immediately over as soona s it began was a bit like torture. There was, of course, one exception to this rule; that being Beckett. And in the case of Ren’s long term lover, the entire situation was essentially flipped on its head. So when he was about to make his way back through that narrow tunnel, only to find himself stopped by the all too present form of his sire standing immediately in front of him, he paused, not because Beckett represented an immovable object. On the contrary, Renard was all too aware that he could have toppled the man down if he really wanted. Or plucked him right up to cart his *** towards the entrance. He paused because there was a moment where his partner was close to him. In life, there had been many moments like that, when they shared breath and body heat. In death, it was just the mechanics which were different.

And then as quickly as the moment began; it ended, with Beck brushing past him. It’s what the other man said immediately after that which earned him a scowl. “The **** you will!” He insisted. Because he was not about to let Knuckles stick behind and possibly get his *** kicked by a bunch of monsters. In fact, he was about to go and toss the man right over his shoulder when he watched the display of magic, how a being was seemingly yanked right up out of the darkness and into life. Well ****. Renard didn’t have any powers like that! He was debating whether or not he should be pissed off, or turned on as he finally pulled back so he could lead the group out of the tunnel. He decided that the two of them were close enough that it didn’t really matter. Either way, he was going to have a talk with Beck later about putting himself into that kind of situation.

But they had other **** to worry about. Like not getting mauled, and finding a new direction to go. So when they were all gathered again, to discuss the next move, Ren had to kinda shrug his shoulders. “My bad. I didn’t adjust the volume after it was handed to me.” Lesson learned for the future, he supposed.

And then with Arauchia providing them a way forward, he nodded for her to take up the front if she wanted. He’d originally taken that post because he wanted to avoid the others springing any traps first, but it made more sense for him to hold back in case anything made its way through the flames and pissed off firepire. Besides. Maybe she would be better at spotting things. So he waited for the others to begin in the direction she pointed, before he slipped up behind Beck. He was actually close enough that his chest shoved against the other man’s back so he could whisper against an ear. “You’re a real asshole, you know.” He said, though he didn’t let the distance between them grow at all. Both Ysmir and Chia could probably hear if they really wanted, though Ren suspected they had other concerns.

And even with him taunting his partner, he didn't really let his senses remain confined to their tight bubble. Rather, he was waiting for the next possible danger. Assuming Arauchia could keep an eye out for traps, he intended to look for any monsters. If the things they had just gone against were any indication, the only way to penetrate deeper would be with a softer touch. A thought which made him internally snicker.

It was as he finally peeled himself away from his partner, that he caught sight of a patch on the stone wall which did not seem to quite mesh with the rest of the area around it. "Hold up." He called out in a hushed tone, as he began to explore the masonry with a hand, probing as if he had a clue what he was looking for (He totally didn't). However, at a certain point of pressure, a stone pushed into the wall, and a hidden passage revealed itself as the other rocks crumbled out of the way.

Well then. This looked promising.
