"Elizabeth, it's wonderful to finally meet you and I would love to help," she said firmly, hopefully making her feelings a bit more clear. Athena didn't always communicate well, but you couldn't go wrong with repeating what you actually meant. Right? So she smiled, in what she hoped was a welcoming and warm manner and waited to be told what could actually be of use right now. Because if she were honest, she didn't have a clue. Nervously she brought her hands up and shoved them into her pant pockets, her shoulders slumping some as she tried not to freak out about the idea of tossing herself into unknown territory.
But she could do this.
It was the mention of baking that made her sigh, an almost guilty look crossing her features. "I can't say that I'm a good baker, or a good cook, but I can follow directions and read." she offered, knowing that putting herself onto a register might also not be the best idea. For a moment there, she felt bad, because she didn't think there was anything that she could do here with her specific drawbacks. After all, she had told Cosimo more than once that she had survived being human on take-out and frozen foods that needed to simply be warmed up.
Cassidy. Athena tried to rack her brain to remember if Cosi had mentioned her, but she couldn't remember such a situation so she followed Elizabeth's gaze to the woman and managed to stretch her lips into another smile, hoping still that she was managing to be welcoming instead of her normal standoffish approach. "Should I ask her where the kitchen is? Maybe I help with the tarts?" she offers, turning her head again to catch a glance of Cosimo who seemed to be in his element, really dripping with that charisma he always oozed and for the first time she smiled without any thought behind it. She smiled because she was in love.

"Wonderful. I would be ever so grateful." Elizabeth beamed at the woman, who was now given a face to a name she had heard so many times before. Athena. It fit the woman in a sense, Elizabeth believed. There was an inner strength embedded deep within the dark haired beauty, picked up by the way she reassured Elizabeth and spoke, that her Cosimo was smitten with.
"Apologies. The kitchen is behind that door." Elizabeth pointed to the left side of the counter where a door would be found and inside that door were various structures such as counter tops, a few ovens, metal dishwashing area, and a rack with baking supplies galore. "She will help with whatever it is one needs, but reading is a good enough start." Elizabeth assured Athena. It was true-centuries ago she and her mother were unable to read, but Liz's mother, like her mother's mother, taught Elizabeth how to bake when she was eight, and had Elizabeth any female children, she would have done the same. Reading was not a right in which she was afforded until after Elizabeth had been sired. What she knew was from common sense and trial and error before then. Reading, was something one should do often and not disregard in the elder's mind.
Elizabeth's eyes started to move from Athena and towards her childe, but stopped when she saw where Athena was staring at. Or, who she was staring at. Yet, not so much either of those either, in truth, but how the woman was staring at Cosimo. She wondered if that was how she had stared at Shamus for as long as they were together and it simply made Elizabeth smile. If she had not, then Cosimo was most lucky, for it was evident to Elizabeth that Athena cared deeply for Elizabeth's childe. "Coming!" Elizabeth raised a finger in the air as a bell near the register had been pushed, hoping to gain her attention.

As the night wore on the crowds started to diminish. It was only an hour, perhaps just over, before the buyers started to dwindle, families and parents wandering home to eat their dinner or their desert and put their children to bed, the middle-class workers going to wash off their day and prepare to start a whole new one the next morning. The mall would grow a littler darker as some shops closed, others remaining open for the eternal nightlife. For the vampires, their ‘day’ was still only just beginning.
When all the tasters were gone Cosimo returned to the shop where he deposited the tray into the kitchen (and pressed a kiss to Athena’s cheek in passing) before returning to the counter where he helped to serve – to box up the tarts and take the money offered for them. It was a good night’s taking, the small burst of customers his stunt had lured pushing their target over its expectations. For this, he had to be proud.
In the spare minutes that he got he wrote down the orders he had received, the phone numbers of those he’d said he would call back (or have Cassidy call back) in regards to catering. Eventually the door closed and the shop was empty of customers – the only people inside were Cassidy, Athena, Elizabeth and Cosimo. The Italian beamed and wiped his hands on his pink apron, flicking the hair from his forehead.
”I am sorry,” he said to Elizabeth, though his cheeks were still dimpled with his smile.
”That may have been a little dramatic…” he said. He had apologised, but his tone was jovial – like a child who was far too proud to be truly guilty of his crimes. He glanced into the kitchen where he’d last seen Athena – if Elizabeth only knew how much worse it could have been!

Athena couldn't help but to stare at Cosimo. She loved to see him happy, to see him where he really thrived and that had to be here. It was where he could be the social butterfly he always was, and will always be. It just wasn't something that she was good at, too. But they managed sometimes to meet in the middle, like now. She was excited, really, under it all to be doing something with him that he loved so much and was good at. Athena hoped under it all that she could find a place here to not only help, but to be great at so they could have something like this in common. Just because they couldn't eat didn't mean they couldn't cook, they could always donate the food somewhere and plus - Athena had to learn at some point in her life, right? She couldn't be a disaster in the kitchen forever. Maybe that could make eternity bearable, the opportunity to learn everything under the sun they couldn't stand anymore.
"Thank you, Elizabeth. I'll do my best not to burn your bakery down." she finally says, snapping back from staring dreamily at Cosimo to look at the man's sire again. She smiles big now, showing just the hint of the dimples that cradled her warm mouth. It wasn't hard for her to do, for looking at Cosi always brought a smile to her face and warmed her like nothing else could. He made her better, she thought. He melted the icy exterior that she held with her everywhere, which was nice for her because sometimes it just got heavy to bare. The kitchen was pointed to so politely she smiled at Elizabeth and she excuses herself so she can help whomever rang the little bell for attention. With every step she took towards the kitchen she felt her stomach twist into a knot. It only got tighter the closer she got. She really did hope she wouldn't burn the damn bakery down. What kind of first of impression would that be?
It was over an hour or so later when she spotted Cosimo again, him coming in briefly to return a tray and she was smiling still. The woman's hair was tied back, her hands were dirty because she had been busy this entire time helping make the tarts -even in the smallest way - and that made her feel handy. It made her feel almost alive again, to be doing something with her hands. This was the way Athena preferred to live her life -busy and using her hands. She returned the cheek kiss, sharing a brief look with him before she returned back to work and let him do the same. It wasn't that she was mad anymore, though she certainly would've been in the past- he was wearing his pants now and she appreciated that. Maybe she didn't always have to yell. Athena looked down again and she got back to work, she used her hands as if that could communicate to everyone why she was finally around. That she was trying, and she hoped deep down, that they knew now more than ever.

Elizabeth's lips twisted into a smirk as Cosimo claimed his antics to be 'a little dramatic.' In truth, she had been startled by his tactic to help, but in the end it had suited the business well, along with them. How well the business did, meant how well they would do financially. Her blue hues traveled over to where Athena was, then over to Cosimo indicating that she was perhaps not the only one he should be trying to make amends with. "Well, next time an advanced warning would do everyone a little good, I think." Elizabeth laughed, then tossed a damp rag used to wipe down the counter with at her childe. No matter how mad she was at any of her childre, Elizabeth never seemed to be able to stay upset with them for very long. Perhaps she was too easy to forgive, but she had seen strife with her earlier ones and just wished for everyone to be happy. However that may be.
Athena had spoken and Elizabeth's attention shifted from Cosimo and the rest of her childre, to the woman. "That would be most appreciative, though I do have insurance on the building." It would be unfortunate if there was a fire, with the business being so new, but Elizabeth would strive to see it open once again and remain open. Cassidy came strolling in from the small locker room and gave Elizabeth a small smile. "Can I leave early? I have this thing at home..." She lifted her cell phone, as if that would explain things further, but there was no need to. Elizabeth was well aware of Cassidy's home predicaments and the toddler the woman had at home, while living with her mother. An accident, but not one that Elizabeth hadn't seen or heard of throughout the centuries of living. Today, however, people of her age tended to be reflected upon poorly if they had a child so young, but by Cassidy's age Elizabeth knew more friends than not who were expecting their first or second child.
"Of course. We can manage." Elizabeth assured Cassidy with a warm smile, before the woman looked at all three of them, nodded her head and moved to get her stuff, then leave. "Cosimo, can you check to see if the cases are locked, while I see the damage in the kitchen?" Elizabeth asked, believing it was best to give Athena and Cosimo some privacy all things considered. Without waiting for any further words from either of them, Elizabeth slipped into the kitchen and vanished, making an occasional sound of clanging pots and pans here and there.

Advanced warning, Elizabeth said – and Cosimo laughed. ”Si, si. Okay. It is every Friday, then? That will be good. We will get permission from the security,” he said, gesturing to the window and the memory of what had passed not too long ago. The security guards were not so happy about Cosimo’s display and they may well prove to be a stumbling block on the road to a weekly showing.
That, and Athena of course.
He took the cloth that was thrown at him. It was damp enough and would do the trick; he’d need to wipe down the tables and lift the chairs so that the floor could be properly cleaned, too. He assumed that he would do it, now that Cassidy was going home. He was not the sort of employee to allow the boss to do the grunt work.
”Please, do. It is… fortune that Athena did come. I did not expect it,” he said, his voice low so that only Elizabeth could hear, though who knew what a vampire’s ears were capable of if they had a mind to listen. ”It was busy, but now it is not. I will like if you both get to know each other,” he said with a smile which lit up the dimples on his cheeks. He did not believe that he needed to be a mediator between them. Elizabeth and Athena were grown women, and they both spoke each other’s language. They needed no translator.
The Italian turned away, then, and proceeded to do as Elizabeth requested; he wiped down the tables, first, before he would check the locks on the cases. When that was done, he would find the mop and bucket. If the health inspectors came at any point in the near future, no infraction would be found. Not on Cosimo’s watch.

Athena heard the mumbling of their voices, the sweet way Cosimo talked in his gruff tone. The way Elizabeth's voice flowed with all the elegance she held in every move she made. In the deep pit of her stomach she could feel that longing twist her insides, telling her that she missed Cosimo in these past few hours. That she wanted nothing more than to be with him which was exactly the reason she came to the store to begin with. It hadn't been originally to help, but she never would complain about work, or even about getting dirty doing it, because if it hadn't been for this woman she never would've met Cosimo who ended up being more than just a jolly annoyance.
Just like she had been more help in the kitchen than she originally thought. Athena had learned to make a simple tart tonight! She had learned how to roll the dough, how to make it the perfect size, how long it would take in the oven and even how it looked when it was done. That part, the part about learning how it looked when it was done, wasn't that easy for Athena since she had ruined a few batches in the process of learning but with her determination she had done it and it hadn't been that hard! She couldn't wait to tell Cosimo, for a girl who hadn't been able to do more than warm up frozen chicken nuggets in the past, it was quite the task she learned, and she had done it by sure luck.
Elizabeth entered the kitchen and Athena was busy wiping down the counters inside, she had her hair pulled back and out of her face. The necromancer even had a hair net on, knowing that she could shed on the food and really trying to avoid anything like that, she hadn't mind doing it. She didn't much care about how she looked when she was working, because by now she was confident in the fact that Cosimo would love her no matter what, even if she didn't deserve it. And she was trying hard to deserve it now, ignoring that ping of guilt that she admittedly should've been trying this hard to begin with.
"So it looks like I didn't ended up burning your place down, and I'm relieved." the woman jokes, ending it with a grateful sigh while she stood up straight against the counter she was cleaning, a rag in hand and the sprayer in the other, looking just like an employee if you could forgive the lack of uniform.

Elizabeth looked at Cosimo as he mentioned taking part in this sort of thing every Friday. While she did not vocally express the less than favourable opinion Elizabeth had within her mind, the look upon her face was quite evident. This would not be an every Friday ordeal. "Perhaps we can try and sell other, just as...interesting assets?" A suggestion, not an outright no, even though her eyes said as much.
She could understand Cosimo's sentiment and desire for her and Athena to meet. Elizabeth had been looking forward to it for some time, knowing how smitten he was with Athena. Finally, the night had arrived where the three of them were in the company of the other two. "Of course, Cosimo." Hospitality and being welcoming was not usually a difficult concept for Elizabeth; even in the face of her enemies she could still be hospital and remotely kind. To an extent.
She watched Cosimo move away and in return, she too moved to where Athena could be found. Elizabeth offered the woman a wide smile, as Athena suggested for a second time, the building and the potential for it to burn down. Perhaps it was because Elizabeth was too busy with the mass of people that she had not given it much thought, but when it was stated a second time, the woman could not help but think of the possibilities. Her blue eyes tripled in size, as Elizabeth's head bobbed left and right, then to Athena, before bobbing away again. "Do you think such a thing is possible?" Elizabeth asked in a hush whisper, before she moved over by Athena and grabbed her by the closest hand Elizabeth could reach for and then yanked the woman down beneath the metal counters. Again, her head whipped from left to right and then stared at the ovens on the opposite side of the wall. "It looks safe...but..." Elizabeth looked at Athena. "Did you turn them off?!" She asked in a higher pitched tone. Gas ovens were not meant to be turned off completely, yet, if someone had turned them off...She grabbed Athena by her shoulders, gave her a demanding shake, and then stared the woman in her eyes. "Tell me you did not turn them off. Tell me!" Elizabeth tilted her chin back, breaking her gaze on Athena and sniffed the air in the kitchen area. "We have to get out of here!" She jumped up, uncertain if the stoves had been shut off, and broke for the main bakery area, blurring past Cosimo on the way out. The last and only thing Elizabeth said before the door automatically closed behind her was, "Call the fire brigade!" before she and the echo of her voice disappeared completely.

Cosimo smiled as the two women disappeared back into the kitchen. What he imagined would happen was the complete opposite to what actually happened; he hoped that they would chat, that they would at least get to know each other a little. He hoped that in talking a little, it would open the way for more interactions in the future; that they would like each other, that they would become friends. He hummed to himself as he went about his business, tidying up the shop ready for it to be locked up and closed for the night while he imagined a future where he, Athena, and Elizabeth were as close as three peas in a pod.
The image was shattered, however, as he heard Elizabeth’s voice grow shrill, as she eventually came running out to the front of the shop and slamming out through the front door as the whole place were about to explode.
If there were anyone still out in the mall—the security, or other business owners—he assumed they might call the fire brigade. Cosimo watched Elizabeth disappear before he stopped what he was doing and rushed to the kitchen. He expected to find smoke and fire, sparks, something, but he saw nothing. Only Athena.
”What has happened?” he asked, looking around. Everything looked as it always did; his tongue pressed to the roof of his mouth and he sucked the air through his nostrils. All he could smell was the sharpness of the cleaning products and the flour underneath, the warm, homely scent of home-made tarts. There was no gas, nothing amiss that he could tell. Still, his hand slid down Athena’s arm until her fingers twined with hers. Elizabeth knew better than he did how the kitchen worked, did she not?
”Perhaps we should go,” he said, reaching into his pocket for the jangle of keys. He would lock the front door just in case nothing was amiss, but they could leave. Idly he wondered how much it would cost Elizabeth if the fire brigade were called but there was nothing amiss. But he also wondered how crispy-fried he and Athena would be if something were amiss. Better to be safe than sorry.

Athena had imagined the same would happen as Cosimo did, that they would chat each other up and get to know each other better with their common interest in making sure Cosimo is safe and happy. But that didn't happen at all, and her joke had been taken so far out of context that it left Ath in a world-wind of confusion. She hadn't expected this to happen, and if she had, she never would've made the joke a second time. It was supposed to be just that, a joke, and here she was making an *** out of herself in front of her boyfriend's sire and it felt utterly awful. It was in silence that she watched the other lovely woman break down into hysteria that she had made with her joke, allowing the woman to take her by the hand and even moving down to the floor to crouch under the metal counters just as Elizabeth did. She tried her best to whisper that everything would be okay, to hold Elizabeth's hand in both of hers to try to soothe her but nothing she did worked. The woman only spoke of how the kitchen would catch on fire and shook her by her shoulders, asking Ath if she had turned off the stove which of course she had done so she could clean up the stove with the cleaner and the rag in her hand. She tried again, she tried to grab Elizabeth by her hands and to make them look into each other's eyes so maybe the woman wouldn't freak too badly but she didn't get the chance. instead Elizabeth jumped up, leaving Athena crouched under the metal counters and stunned. Would Cosimo forgive her for accidentally causing his sire to freak so badly? She truly hadn't meant to, and if she would've had any clue, she definitely wouldn't have said anything to cause Elizabeth to freak so badly.
When Cosimo finally came into the kitchen she was still under the counters, breathing slowly in and out as if that would help her shake her nerves. She didn't know how he would react, she didn't know if even the kitchen was in any real danger. The place was quiet, and cold though, nothing to hint there was a fire anywhere in the building and everything was still cool to the touch. "I joked that I didn't burn the place down since you know I'm no master chief.." trailing off, she looked rather guilty for even making the joke to begin with. "I'm sorry, I didn't know she would react that way but I don't think the kitchen or the bakery is in any real danger." frowning, she slowly made her way to stand again, smoothing palms nervously down the fabric of her shirt and the top of her pants. It was comforting when Cosimo touched her, their fingers easily intertwining together and even further comforting to hear that he wanted to leave.
"Yes, let's go home. -Please."
