Alaric smiled and nodded. The policy of honesty had been steadfast mostly since the beginning. For years he had abandoned his family; his sons had had no idea what had happened to their father, and yet when he returned to them he had done so in a state of supplication. Three long nights they had talked about it, discussed and argued. He had told them everything. He had told them how he had lost control; how he had innocent blood on his hands. They did not know what to think, that he had left them to spare their lives and yet in doing so, had killed others. Other sons, other brothers, other fathers.
Over the years he had not shared his secrets with all his descendants, but only a select few. The ones who had brought him back knew of his secrets because… well, they would not have sought to bring him back if they had not.
These things he was sharing, even though they had just met. Even though they had not yet got over the fact that they had discovered each other – so late. But there was an immediate comfort. A strange comfort that swelled in Alaric’s breast, like he had known this woman all his life, that this was not a first meeting but a mere visit.
Although he might feel comfortable with her, Alaric had yet to get to know Isabella’s intricacies.

TRANSLATION: * They do. I am hoping to offer them immortality – some. They might not accept. I have not yet spoken to them about it
** I do think that humans and vampires, they can work together. It is something I have seen in my family. It is something they are capable of. If I introduce you as… as the woman who turned me, they will know what you are, too. Is that something that you are comfortable with?
