Sounds kind of like the 'this' format of the video game Black and White, now with multiplayer and pvp. And a globular sandbox.

You'll be using test characters, however, so you won't get to keep your progress. Though you will get a feel for the game early, so you'll get a head start in that regard.

I'll make a sign up page for closed beta testing so that people can put their names forward, and I'll select a bunch from those.
I will be watching for this sign up like a hawk. A hawk I say.

Dunno if it is jumping the gun, but some of us have been kicking around character ideas and concepts in chat. Is it too early to ask some basic questions?

1. We heard "classical with some early industrial" and are assuming 300/Gladiator with some steam punk flavor?

2. Will it be more slanted toward one on one pvp or factions?

3. How does the dark/light/chaos choice affect your character?

4. Are you fighting others for control of your Word (war, fire, lumberjacks, etc) or is something else going on with your Word choice?

If it's too early for this, understandable, at least you have some ideas what some people are curious about already. :D

1. That's a working concept. But not exactly steam punk, no. Classical with a hint of industrial perhaps, but no punk. But that's not 100% certain yet.

2. A little of both. Factions will have territorial warfare, and I think we're going to try to keep it so that only so many people can be involved in one of those battles on each side, which should help to keep the factions smaller. On the individual battles side of things, I'm anticipating some fights over supremacy for certain godly aspects or individual squabbles. Although the battle system will work a little like Path skirmish and RBC's fighting (a turn-based version), it will allow for two characters to go at it alone if they choose. The winner will also take some of the loser's disciples, most likely. Again, only some of this is concrete just now.

3. That side of things hasn't been decided yet, though I do have ideas. Most likely this will determine which of the alignments you serve, and thus which side you are helping in the overall grand scheme of things. More likely, this choice will determine which set of powers cost less souls to activate, and perhaps even how fast you move in each of the 3 realms (light would allow you to move faster in heaven, chaos on earth, and dark in the underworld) This alignment can be changed any time you wish, with a little effort.

4. You do compete with other gods and goddesses to be the supreme deity of that aspect, but you do not necessarily have to fight one another. The system is very simple, and acts like a leaderboard for each aspect. Each week the new gods and goddesses of each aspect are named, if there are new leaders. Leaders are determined by the number of disciples the deity has. So, while you could opt to attack rivals, you might instead decide to leave well enough alone and just concentrate on performing miracles to get new followers, or you might decide to find sneakier ways of slowing down rivals.

The one thing I'd say to people who are interested is keep in mind this is a lot simpler than Path. There are no minigames (like hacking), no chapters / impact threads, and the NPCs you fight will be fairly rare, and won't depend on things like weapons or pre-set "battle tactics". The whole game is designed so that it's very easy to come to terms with without getting bogged down or confused, but there will be hidden depth when it comes to using the various powers in a cunning way. It won't appeal to everyone who plays Path, but I think most will find it fun, or would get into the RP side of things.

I'm adding a temporary forum for the new game so I can bounce some ideas around and get feedback on early concepts. The game as it stands is completely playable at a basic level, but not all powers have been added yet, and the PVP system isn't finished, so those are the things I need to discuss as I work. If you're interested in helping with the development process, you'll be one of the first to know when the game is in open beta / alpha. Please join here if you're interested:

I'm adding some discussion threads now.

ETA: Please note that this is a temporary location, as the game will be moved to its own server when it's complete.
