--The following transcript was a live chat roleplay--

Roderic: I just nod my head before rapping on the door. Two raps, two times. A perfect, even, four. I step back two steps and let my eyes look down the hallway of the dormitory. Observing who passes by. Who lived next to Nathan as we waited for him to open the door. I had my doubts about Ali being the thief in this scenario, only because there would be no way I would let a stranger out of my eye sight in my personal space for more than two seconds.

Aliyah: The blonde couldn't help but roll her eyes at Ric's attention to the details of the place, as if a university dorm was anything to be worried about. No doubt, he had done something similar in her apartment. "You know, maybe you are better at being the thief...you proved your capabilities quite well, didn't you?" she remarked with a smirk, keeping her blue gaze locked on the dorm door.

Nate: The knock came as a song ended and the next was buffering and Nate paused for a long moment, sliding the headphones off his head and debating whether he should go to the door or not. It wouldn't hurt to look. In fact, it might hurt even more if he didn't. Better to know who is coming after you if someone was, he supposed. He crept as slowly as he could to the peephole and looked out the door to see his brother and his cousin. Without a second thought, he flung the door open and lunged at Roderic. "Roddy!" He yelled with a broad smile across his face. Turning to Aliyah, the smile grew even more. "And cousin! How did you know this is where I lived? Oh I'm so glad to see y'all here! What's going on?"

Roderic: He was in my space. I think he knows I hate people in my space, but Nate doesn't really care. It's not his fault our dad is a douche bag, I have to remind myself of this all the time. Yet, there's this niggling at the back of my neck that still gets irritated at the mention of Nathan and our relationship. "You don't know if she's our cousin." I tell him, still looking around once he releases me to focus on Aliyah. "Directory." I tell him with a shrug, even though it was Daegal that told me after reporting back to me. "I was thinking of going back to school. Medical." I say. It's not the truth, but I didn't feel bad lying. Ends to a means. "Thought I would tour the dorm life. Can we come in?"

Aliyah: "What he means is...he opened his mouth about our shared last name, put the idea in my head, and now wants to backtrack on it," she narrated for Nate's benefit, shrugging up her shoulders as if the matter was no concern of her own. With a soft sigh, she forced a smile onto her lips and canted her head. "How are you doing, Nate? Been a bit since I have seen you last." She didn't care what Ric thought about her relationship with Nate, that much was for sure. And besides, the kid was sweet.

Nate: "Of course!" He let go of Roderic and stepped out of the way, gesturing for them to go inside. "And of course she's our cousin, why would she say she was if she wasn't?" He grinned at her and nodded before turning back to Ric. "I always knew you were going to do great things. Medical is a big undertaking. I know you'll do great though." He looked back at Aliyah. "Oh, I'm doing alright. Just getting ahead on some homework now. And you? How have you been?"

Roderic: “Can you blame me?" I say snidely, having ignored her slight at my stealing skills earlier, but circling back to it now. I stare at Nate as he turns to his usual, positive self and then shrug before walking in. I knew enough about the human body to do good in that field, I guess. Maybe Nathan was on to something. If people weren't so annoying. If people didn't create their own medical problems and expect someone else to fix them, and oh, yeah, I had to have something called a 'bedside manner.' Maybe, I could be a mortician. That might be fun. Instead of sending bodies to the morgue, I could help put them in the ground. "What are you working on?" I ask as I start to snoop around his room.

Aliyah: Aliyah ignored Ric's snide remark, choosing instead to focus on Nathan as he invited them in. In a vague sense, she knew that his invitation wouldn't have been required, for either of them, but it made the process that much simpler. She moved into the room with ease, as if she belonged there. "I have been quite good, Nathan, thank you," she replied, giving Ric a pointed look as she began to pace around the room, as if checking out the space that her cousin lived in. In reality, she was seeking out the brush they sought, or even a comb. She stopped her tracks shy of the dresser, her hand skimming over the wooden surface.

Nate: "An analysis of early medieval life for history class. It's an honors elective class." He rattled if off like it was the most normal thing in the world, because it was for him. Advanced classes and the honor roll was Nate's life and where he felt most comfortable. He did not notice anything strange about the way they moved through the small space, though he found himself embarrassed. He had paid extra, or rather his parents had, to have a single room this semester and his clothes and grooming items were scattered everywhere and all over the cabinets.

Of course he was doing something that wouldn't really do him any good in the real world. At least, not in my mind. What would anyone do with that class? I think really hard how to distract Nate so that Ali can grab the brush and we can move this along. I have things to do and Doc would be waiting for the samples. I also told him I would have them by a certain time and day. But the sooner, the better. Then we could go back to our lives. Doing the things we were doing before I ran in to Aliyah by accident.

She's not all that bad. I could stand being around her than some other women I knew. Mostly, three-fourths of the Harper Rock female vampire population. But if we aren't related, then there really isn't any reason for us to to hang around the other. Doing whatever this was. She could hang out with Nate all she wanted, but I wasn't the hanging around type.

"Medieval?" I say, as if I'm really interested. I'm not. Unless, "Do you guys talk about swords in that class?" I ask, moving around the room to look for his books to get a better insight on what other classes he's taking. While Nate and I aren't close, I do keep tabs on him from time to time. It's not his fault our dad is a twat. I came to learn that in my early twenties. That he wasn't the issue. It was a bigger one than the both of us.

While I walk around the room, I 'accidentally' knock over a notebook and send the notebook and anything in it flying out to the ground. "Sorry man. I'm so clumsy sometimes." I say to Nate, as I slowly move to start picking the papers and notebook up. I'm not, but keeping up charades and all.

While she was stopped at the dresser, she watched Ric move around the room to inspect the books, pretending to be interested in his brother's life. It was cruel, and she frowned over in his direction. He wouldn't get the chance to see it, but it was there nonetheless. He had a good kid for a brother, and it was clear he didn't appreciate that. Despite Nate being only a half-sibling, it didn't mean he should be any less important, and Ric's lack of caring made her want to hit him. Not that she would, as they were on a mission. A mission to prove their blood relation. And part of her wished they weren't.

Rolling her eyes heavenward as he knocked over the notebooks and papers, she fought the urge to sigh dramatically and turned her attention to the bedroom, her eyes scanning over every surface in search of the brush they needed. It only took a moment for her to find it, and when she did, her eyes shifted to Ric and Nate. Truth be told, Ric would have been better equipped to grab the brush, due to its position on the bedside table. But, he was busy, and that made her job.

She circled around the room, carefully stepped over the clothing spread throughout the space. It was a cluttered mess, but one that Nate managed to navigate just fine, obviously. Had she lived on her own, her apartment would have likely looked the same. "You can dress them up, but you can't take them out..." she said with a grin, stooping down beside Ric to pick up a few papers. Before they were all gathered, she stood up once more with her back facing the bedside table, her hand grazing the brush's handle. She dropped the papers to the desk, and with a quick and efficient movement, she had it. And had no where to hide the fact she had it.

Taking a couple measured steps toward the door, she stuck the handle in the back waistline of her jeans, throwing her shirt over it. Much like one would hide a gun. Her coat only served to better disguise it. With a pointed look at Ric, she jerked head toward the door. It was time to make their exit. Without being rude.

He laughed at Roderic's question. "No, not much talk about swords. Mainly about how the general population managed to get by from day to day and what they did in their spare time. Most didn't use swords, not in their everyday life. That would just be weird. It's not like most people walk around with guns these days."

Nate's train of thought would have likely continued along its path and he would have eventually gone over the entire syllabus that had been covered so far as well as the next weeks worth of lessons since he had prepared for them as well but his brother knocked over a notebook. The notebook. The one with all the weird stuff that had been happening to him that he was trying to rationalize away.

His voice squeaked and cracked as he started to shoo him away, "It's fine, I'll pick that stuff up later," but then his cousin was picking up the papers as well. They were going to think he was crazy. They were going to tell mom and dad that he was losing it at school. That he couldn't handle the stress. But that wasn't it all, he just needed to figure it out. To understand it. Then it wouldn't be weird anymore. It would have an explanation.

Neither one of them seemed to actually read anything on the pages and he hoped they didn't see the thick beads of sweat streaming down his face. As Aliyah stepped towards the door, he moved in front of the desk and the now shuffled papers. "What're y'all up to now? Maybe we can all go do something together? AS a family?" More than anything at that moment, he wanted them out of the room and away from what he feared was his insanity and he hoped that maybe they would take him away from it as well.

A brow was raised when Nate said people didn't walk around with guns. Everyone he knew did. A gun or a sword. Both, if they could get their hands on some decent looking ones that was. "Yeah. That's really weird." I agree with Nate. I wasn't going to introduce him to the darker side of Harper Rock. He was, after all, still human. Very human.

Ali gives me the signal that she's got what she needs and I stand up and give a nod to her. Letting her know I know what she's nodding about. Ali's ready to go and so am I, but Nate throws a wrench in the plans. I look at her and then at Nate. "We don't even know if she's family yet." I remind him. I remind the both of them as I head to the door. "Maybe we could do something tomorrow? The three of us. I have an appointment in twenty minutes. Or you and Aliyah could do something tonight." I could get the brush and not deal with any female drama and emotions while I handle my business. The time statement was a lie, but I did have an appointment. I needed to get that brush to the lab and let Doc's receptionist know what it's for. The sooner, the better.

Ali blinked and canted her head at Nate when he made his assessment on guns. There were very few vampires she knew of that did not carry a weapon of any kind, but perhaps it was a vampire thing. As it were, she usually carried both a gun and a blade. The quickness with which they left her apartment had only allowed her enough time to grab Ever, her lovely blade left to her room. Still, the boy could learn to use a blade or a gun. There was no saying when he could use protection against the creatures he clearly knew nothing about it. Or that his beloved brother happened to be one of them.

She scowled over in Ric's direction at his continuous insistence that she might not be family. If he was so against the idea, he should have never mentioned it in the first place. It was his fault they found themselves in this situation. But the quick shift in conversation kept her from the chance to snap at the male, as Ric did his best to avoid spending time with his younger brother. The way in which he avoided it was pretty flawless, but she couldn't help but feel for the poor kid. He obviously just wanted to spend time with his family.

With a sigh, she shook her head after Ric's offer on her behalf, "I'm sorry, Nate. I can't stay, either. I promised Ric, here, that I would go with him to this appointment. He was worried about it, see. That tough exterior is all just a front, so no one thinks he is actually a real worrier underneath," she explained with a frown, patting Ric on the shoulder. Two could play that game, that much was for sure. "But, tomorrow would be perfect. I wouldn't mind coming by, then."

Another step back and her hand was on the doorknob, ready to turn it and bolt, "And he and I really need to be going if we want to make the appointment in time. You know how the city can be, sometimes...crowded every which way..."
