Belle nodded, making another one of those pathetic little sniffling sounds as she listened quietly. It was probably a virus, or maybe not, or maybe it was some kind of military experiment, but whatever it was, they were working on fixing it and some people were bound to be beyond help by this point. After all, it had been at least two years since the Quarantine went up and who knew how long before than since the first cases of the illness. And Solene was right: there hadn’t been any other choice but to phone the appropriate authorities and report the man’s location and surely they knew best who was beyond help and more of a danger than anything else, but even still… You didn’t see doctors going around hospitals smothering patients or deliberately giving them overdoses (or at least, you weren’t supposed to see that sort of thing), but that was what these military doctors were doing to their charges. Putting them down like animals rather than letting them live out their remaining days, however few they might number, with the same compassion and dignity that would be afforded to someone with any other kind of debilitating, terminal illness. She mumbled a quiet, not quite heartfelt agreement though. Everything Solene was saying was true, Isabelle just didn’t like the truth that was presented to her.
”I work at…” She paused, but… Oh Christ, she was just going to have to suck it up and tell her, wasn’t she? It wasn’t like Belle was bothered by what she did to pay the bills, but almost without exception, women looked at her with disdain while men got that look about them and every possible wrong idea. ”Do you know the Kit Kat?” She asked, hoping against hope that the answer would be a ‘no’ and an assumption that it was just a regular bar like so many others around there. ”Katya might be alright with me calling in, I guess, but Lex is a bit… Um… Well, he wouldn’t be happy with it, you know?” Of course, Belle had never called off work in her life, so there may have been an element of virgin nerves involved in her hesitancy, but she wasn’t likely to admit to that sort of thing out loud.
