There was a silence between the two as she stared at the woman who was now seen to be her creator, her sire as she nodded her head slowly. Wide, hazel eyes looking to the red haired woman. The sound of a book snapping shut frightened the woman as her hearing was not used to the loud noises the woman made, she watched as she placed the book down and trotted off into the kitchen, where she could hear Phoenix pulling things out, the sound of china hitting the surface and then a microwave door closing, and opening.

The woman came out seconds later with a warm mug; she could see the steam rising from the liquid as it was offered to her, she took it with her own outstretched hands and pulled the warm up to her chest where she watched the steam from the dark liquid, she took a sniff, it smelt like copper. Pennies, as she brought the rim to her lips and took a gulp. The liquid was divine. It tasted, amazing. She took another gulp, then another until the contents of the mug had vanished. She placed it back on the coffee table, with a smug smile.

“Sorry…”

She said, with a little gulp. She was still hungry, she felt like she hadn’t eaten anything. She ran her tongue along the upper and lower lip of her mouth. Trying to grasp at any droplets of blood that was trapped in the corner of her mouth. She nodded her head slowly then, pushing her wet hair into a ponytail. An elastic band that was still clinging to her wrist.

“Snap my neck?”

She shook her head, confused.

“Wouldn’t it hurt me? Even though I’m like you.”

She didn’t know now being a vampire that she could feel pain or not. It would be scary. She didn’t even want to know if snapping the neck would be painful, or painless.

Nix sipped her mug, watching Athena do the same. Though the plan made perfect sense to her, she could see how it would seem quite radical to someone who, only moments ago, believed death was permanent. Giving a slow nod, Nix pushed herself to her feet and made her way to the window overlooking the city. Her forehead rested against the cool glass as she took a few deep breaths.

The icy rain and sleet had given way to a flurry of soft snowflakes since the pair had settled down in the building. The world was awash the orangy glow unique to a large city with low cloud cover and snow blustering through the air. It seemed so peaceful out there in the darkness, and deceptively pleasant, but she knew better than to give in to the soft wintery wonderland. Out there, it was harsh and cold enough to freeze straight down to the bone. The redhead turned at Athena's question, snapped out of her contemplative reverie.

"Yeah... it'll hurt, but you'll be okay - you'll actually heal up just fine in a few days. We'd just need some obviously mortal wound - to a human - so the coroner can easily determine cause of death on the spot and ship the body off to the morgue. Hopefully you'll be unrecognizable enough to easily switch the body with that of a Jane Doe."

A smile curled her lips. "It can wait a few days until you're more settled - don't worry."

It’ll hurt.

That stuck in Athena’s mind as she stared at the woman, who was now her sire. Delicate eyes taking in the woman. She didn’t want the pain again. Her eyes slowly closed, nodding her head in a brief understanding after her own little panic attack ceased. She didn’t want Phoenix to catch on that she was scared. Scared of anything that would harm her further. She had already died tonight. It was through all that panic that Phoenix turned around and said that it wouldn’t happen until she was more settled. Had a bearing for her new found abilities? What she could do – and even now, she doesn’t know what she is a capable of in this new body. She blinked a few times more.

Wet hair still clung to her body as she ran her fingers through her wet, hair. Thinking about what eternity would be for her – how she would turn out, would she turn people of her own? Would she be found out by the authorities?

“What can we do?”

She asked casually, her mind was so frantic full of questions she wanted to ask, full of different questions. Could she turn into a bat? Fly away and all that jazz. She giggled to herself briefly. She had read in Bram Stoker’s version that he could turn into a bat, even smoke – and appear in young unsuspecting women’s rooms and drain them dry – or turn them into his wives.

“Is Dracula real?”

She asked the red head, who was standing so close to the window pane. Her throat itched, wanting more of whatever was in the mug that Phoenix had given her moments before. She had drank it quickly, her body craved more – as if it was some kind of sustenance to her.

Turning away from the window almost as if she'd sensed the woman's thirst, Nix collected the mug she'd given Athena and returned to the kitchen. Dumping out another blood pack, Nix popped it in the microwave and waited while the liquid warmed to just the perfect temperature. "I don't know if Dracula was ever real," she chuckled - truthfully, she'd never thought of it before. "Some of the lore from Dracula is right - the blood drinking and the ability to shift into an animal - but the sneaking into bedrooms is something that has to be learned. I've kinda gathered that long ago, it was harder to be powerful than it is now, so maybe he was real and powerful. You'd have to ask an elder," she admitted with another chuckle.

When the microwave beeped, she retrieved the mug and returned it to the woman still wet from her shower. "You're free to serve yourself - this place is your home as long as you need it," she informed her new childe, dropping to sit back across from her. "You'll discover your abilities soon - different vampires have different paths. Almost like vampire races. You're still very young, so it's hard to tell which you are, but there are six different types of vampire: Telepaths, Allurists, Killers, Necromancers, Shadows and Mystics. Allurists see a rotting corpse as a reflection when looking in the mirror. Shadows end up losing their shadows - I'm one, but I've learned how to project so that I don't look like a poorly photoshopped chick stuck in the real world. Necros end up looking extra corpsy when they're hurt. Telepaths, Mystics and Killers are hard to differentiate between until they develop or learn an ability. Just pay attention to any inner wonkiness you feel and let me know what it is - I'll help you channel it."

With that, she smiled, settling back in her seat. She'd answer any questions the woman had and guide her through this new life. Later - much later - they could pull off the faked death.

Home.

Athena nodded her head slowly. Taking up the offer. She had blood, that was all a vampire needed – right? She settled back on the sofa. Rubbing at her temple softly. She didn’t know where to start what to do – or how long vampires had existed, though Phoenix said we – vampires in general could turn into animals. She blinked a few times, and wanted to do it. She closed her eyes and focused. She wanted to transform into a bird, something that could fly – she tried so hard her face shook until she gave up, she’d have plenty of time to learn how to transform into a bird. She breathed out, in relief.

The faked death, was now what worried her most. The pain, she wasn’t sure how she felt about it – she had amost forgotten that she was willing to kill Phoenix, if the woman was luring her into a trap. She laughed. The rock was in her pocket, back in the bathroom – that would be something to explain later on down the line as she looked, the woman came back into the room and handed Athena another warm mug of blood. She beamed and drank that one – until it was empty. She looked embarrassed, but she was excited to get things going.

She would be a good vampire, for Phoenix.
