Grid Basics
The city grid remains fairly static during movement on grid with some minor button changes. This post will introduce you to the basics of the city grid screen.Menus
The top-leftmost button (the square of 9 dots), upon mouseover, reveals a drop-down menu of important OOC navigation features.
- Chats - Brings you to the OOC chats, using the name of the character you are currently on
- Forum - Brings you to the forum home page
- Game - Returns you the the city grid. If you're on the city grid, it refreshes the page
- Help and Info - Hovering over this opens a secondary menu
- Chapter - Shows information on the current chapter
- Leaderboards - OOC ranking of various aspects of the game. You may choose to opt out from being listed here as well.
- Terms of Service - Brings you to the Terms of Service for the site
- Rules - Brings you to the Game Rules. Additional rules can be found on the Forum.
- Stats - Shows the OOC stats on distribution of the various types of characters in the game. This is not always accurate.
- Wiki Help - Brings you to the Wiki home page
- Karma Shop - This is where you will be able to spend karma, the premium currency of Path of the Vampire. Karma can be acquired for real world money (average of 10 karma for $10 in US Dollars - exchange rates will cause this to vary) as well as via free methods.
- Log Out - Logs you out of the city grid (but not the forum)
- Battle Tactics - This is where you will alter the tactics you will use during NPC battles and Battles to the Death with other players. It is strongly advised you experiment with these tactics as different NPCs will require different tactics in order to defeat them.
- Character Sheet - Clicking on this will bring you to your character sheet where you can view your stats, your lineage, any biography you may have set up, your level as well as give you a link to your wounds page.
- Inventory - This will take you to your characters inventory where you will find multiple tabs. Your first tab will be your weapons, the second will be any relics or other gear you currently posses, the next tab listing any and all ammo you have on you and finally any items you may have picked up in your travels.
- Powers - This will take you to the powers wheel where you will be able to spend any and all accumulated PXP on purchasing new powers for your character.
- Roleplay- Hovering over this will, like Help and Info, open a secondary menu.
- Dice Roller - This is a feature unique to Path of the Vampire in which you can input the relevant information and the game itself will inform you of the results of the information you input. This dice roller can be used to resolve conflicts in RP and is most used in the Hardcore Ruleset forum.
- Roleplay Points - Opening this page will show you the amount of RPP you have accumulated through your forum posts. This RPP can be used on this page to do one of two things, either exchange for experience or exchange for money. Both of these things will gain you RPP levels which are visible on the left hand side of the screen. The left hand portion will show your current RPP level, your RPP needed to level and your exchange rate for both money and experience.
- Roleplay Traits - This will take you to a page where you can choose Roleplay negatives for your character which are needed in order to purchase Roleplay only powers. These are powers that do not affect anything on the grid and only have an affect in Roleplay.
- Settings - Brings you to the settings page. From here you can alter the settings of the grid to increase performance and determine what does and does not show on your grid page, change account settings, change character settings and add information to your biography, change siring options and also find the options to kill and/or delete your character.
- Other - This is the area to find the miscellaneous IC aspects of Path of the Vampire.
- Alert Log - Gives you an overview of the last 2 months of alerts that you have received.
- Business - This lists the player owned business of Harper Rock. It is from this page you can make use of the business skill and manage a business you own or, if you lack the business skill, you can look through the businesses and potentially find one to apply at to gain a job and make some extra money at the cost of 1 energy per hour.
- Factions - This lists the different factions and bloodlines in the city. Clicking on a faction name will give you a brief overview of the faction as well as the option to apply to said faction.
- Properties - A list of all properties you currently own and have access to as well. Items within properties you own are also displayed here.
- Relationships This is where you can set your allies and enemies. Setting an individual as an ally will allow them to freely summon you. Setting an individual as an enemy will affect whether or not you will attack them when placed in Sentry mode.
- Wounds - This is where you can view any and all wounds your character might have.
Around the Grid
The grey box at the top of the screen is the alert box. This box only appears on the screen when needed and upon log-in will show any missed alerts that occurred while you were away. The position of the box can be changed in the Settings menu.
Left-Side
The bars on the left side of the grid represent your character's blood level (red), anima (blue), and energy (green). Hovering over any of the bars will show the max amount your character can have of that of that stat. For the anima stat, hovering will also show you what the character's daily's max is as well as how much of it they have used.
The four grey squares below the bars on the left display important information.
- Sec - Displays the security level of the current square your character is standing in.
- Exp - Displays percent of experience earned towards next level. When you have enough experience to level, a red 'Level Up' link is displayed - clicking it will bring you to the stat allocation page.
- Cash - Displays the character's cash on hand. It does not display the amount in the bank.
- Karma - Displays the character's current amount of Karma and is a link to the page to buy more Karma for Real Life money.
The face outline on the top right side of the grid only appears once a character has a thrall of some manner under their control. One button will appear for each different thrall the character has. Clicking it will switch to that thrall. If you have more than one thrall, you can switch between them without returning to your character. The red arrow button that appears when on the thrall will return you to the master character.
The door icon appears when there is some sort of door or opening present. It does not necessarily indicate a door your character will have permission to pass through, however. Clicking it allows the character to pass through (if allowed).
The gear icon appears when there is an object in the square that is viewable (such as gifts in lairs) or usable (such as ritual altars). Clicking will use/view that item.
The door and gear icons will never appear together as it is impossible to place an object on a door.
The lightning bolt button brings you to the powers menu where you can view and use the various powers your character has.
The plus sign button opens the More Commands menu which houses more options/skills.
The speech bubble button brings up a pop up that allows you to speak to people in your square, shout to surrounding squares or join the IC location chat for the current location your character is in.
If your character is standing inside a property that they are the owner of, such as an apartment, a key icon (not pictured) will appear at the bottom right of the grid. Clicking it will open up the lair control panel.
Below Grid
Below the grid, you will see the name of the area you are in along with the coordinates for the current square you are standing in. It will also show the current district (or lair inside certain buildings).
If you have Quick Cast active, the list of powers and potential targets will display under the grid as well.
On the bottom right of the screen, you will see the countdown to sunrise within the game.
On-Grid
NPCs always display in yellow. You can attack and rob most NPC. If the NPC offers a quest, such as those for human classes, a grey alert box will appear with the offer.
Items in Green can be picked up off the ground
