A smile tugged at the red-head lips as she caught Doc’s thought. She really wished she could have seen his face at the suggestion of ‘bae’; it hadn’t been a serious one, of course. That he had found a couple of the choices suitable was a great start. Now the couple just needed to have a conversation on the correct one for their relationship. She wasn’t entirely sure she wanted to be a fly on the wall for that; she’d heard enough stories about flying vases and ice machines gone haywire. No, she’d sit that one out and hear about it later. If she didn’t hear the shouting from across the building first that was. Good luck.

The way Every and Azraeth had positioned themselves had left her a view of the ballroom. She spotted a few people making their way out the main door while yet others seemed to stream out one of the side doors in search of the outdoor ventures. Perhaps at some point she’d make it that way; she still wanted to make a snowman though she’d steer clear of the reindeer. Refocusing inward, she spied Ariadne standing in front of the yule log with… was that Judah? It was, unless she was very much mistaken. That was an interesting grouping if she was honest, though she wasn’t quite sure if it was accidental or by design.

Finally she spotted the true reason for her glancing about. She was unsurprised to see that the Asian had moved on from Alaric’s group. After all, Ayuka seemed determined to mingle and meet a variety of people tonight. The red-head supposed it was part of her job to do so; as a public relations rep it made the most sense. It was as she said to Azraeth though; she didn’t understand why she had been approached first out of all the guests. It wasn’t like she had the influence or prestige that many of the others had, particularly the councilmen. It was a mystery she wanted to explore more if she got the chance; especially given the woman had specifically, personally, and purposely told her she would be back. It was intriguing as was the Asian herself. Seeing the woman glance her way, she gave her a shy smile as she watched her interact with the new group.

”Of course,” she smiled wickedly at him. She was well acquainted with several methods of forcing people to play nice. It was just a matter of paring the correct one with the circumstances. Some were better for dealing with one or two individuals; that wasn’t going to be useful here unless just the troublemakers were targeted which wasn’t precisely effective. It’d also require coordination and be draining, leaving some unable to defend themselves in case of trouble. ”The thought had crossed my mind,” she added in a low whisper. It had and she had cursed herself for not thinking of it before the ball. That changed when she had caught the scent and sight of the roses knowing that she would have to pop home at that point which would allow her to rectify that error. Her growing headache was an ever present reminder that the sooner the better.

The memory of finding out she was allergic to the favored blossoms wasn’t one that would easily be forgotten. Her mother had had a rose garden for as long as she could remember; not that she had been allowed near it. It was odd that her allergies hadn’t been narrowed down before the incident in mind as she’d had year-round ‘hay fever’. There wasn’t a time she could recall where she hadn’t been on a daily medication for it; it helped but it didn’t take care of the problem completely. As she could function without her nose running, eyes watering, or sneezing nonstop, no one wanted to dig further into the root cause. Of course, that had changed the night their coven had done a smudging ritual with white roses. For what purpose, she couldn’t recall but she could remember ending up in the emergency room shortly after the first roses had hit the flames. Ever since she had avoided florists around Valentine’s Day and any other event bound to be swarmed with the blossoms. If she had even suspected that there’d be hoards of them here tonight she would have either avoided the ball all together or brought her medication.

The poor chocolate; she kind of felt bad for the poor thing. It hadn’t deserved to be crushed, but Roman nougat wasn’t one of her favorites so she didn’t feel that poorly about it. Besides, her brother had walked right into that one with his ‘One Ring’ comment and wanting to rule all. She smiled ever so sweetly at the man. Of that I have no doubt. While he seems to be pretty laid-back, I think he hides his wild, feistier side. She didn’t mean it like that though she knew it could, and likely would, be taken out of context. Well, I have a perfectly good couch if you end up needing it. She was fairly sure he wouldn’t for some time, but the offer would stand. Good. You deserve to be happy. I’m tickled pink that you found that special someone that makes you happy…. And decidedly giddy.

Her hazel eyes blinked as she considered his comment. Could it be that simple? Though if that was the case, it really wasn’t simple; there were too many species in the mix. It would just be in-line with the rest of her life straddling the line between each group. After six and a half years in Harper Rock, she had practically mastered carefully balancing between vampire and human though she really didn’t belong in either group. She wasn’t a vampire; that was certain. But neither was she human; at least not what most humans would consider human, anyway. Add a Siren into that mix and it was the start of a new delicate dance of balance. In reality, she knew that regardless, there would have to be a balance found between the three groups if they were to coexist in the city. ”I suppose…” She wasn’t entirely certain about it. Honestly, she wasn’t sure she was the one to be the pioneer into Siren relations. ”That could be messy.” She sighed; she’d deal with that if it came up, for tonight, she wanted to enjoy herself and the lovely company.

”You rarely intrude,” she laughed quietly. ” Mi casa es su casa, after all. It’s not like I’m planning to take someone home with me tonight, so it’d be safe.” Even if Ayuka’s interest was personal, the red-head wasn’t in the habit of bringing someone home on the first date; siren or not. She shook her head in quiet amusement as she dropped the chocolates into her own stocking; she hoped he was keeping some for Flynn. ”I know Doc, Liz and I will likely get together at some point, but outside of that I’m free. Liz might have an idea as to timing. But, I concur, I love the idea of spending time with the people important to you.” She smiled at Every, as Azraeth informed the woman she wasn’t off the hook either. She nodded in agreement to the statement; if the woman had free time, perhaps a small, casual gathering would be in order for an hour or so. Nothing fancy; and certainly nothing public – not after that fiasco a month ago.

The blood thief couldn’t help but smile at the way her brother described his first meeting with the paladin. She had met the man prior to the event in question at Voodoo Café and had been intrigued by him. It had been a happy coincidence that he had met Mortll and joined Voodoo Dragons where he’d been a welcome addition. Though, Longslade had pretty much been a trial by fire for the poor recruit. She’d popped into the building once and left very shortly after seeing how much mayhem had already occurred and was in progress. She had gone back home and straight into research mode; she must have missed seeing them. It was adorably sweet listening to what was being said and what wasn’t but could be inferred. He was definitely smitten. There was no doubt about that; who knew he could be this romantic too. It was a side of him she hadn’t seen before and it suited him well.

Flynn’s reappearance wasn’t a surprise; she’d figured he’d return sooner or later. Either that or Az would go seeking his mate; the vampire was quite protective, after all. She had nodded politely at his greeting to both Flynn and to the woman accompanying him. But it was his gentle admonishment of his lover that caused the red-head’s eyes to widen ever so slightly. Especially when he then threw out Azraeth’s ‘chosen’ full name… and it wasn’t Dragomir. That was just as telling as her brother’s admission that he was considering a ring; especially since he was now trying to turn the color of her hair. Yup, he was totally head over heels for his paladin. It was also obvious that the human was just as smitten as his lover. It was adorable and incredibly sweet.

She nodded politely at Caligrace as the woman seemed to come out of her magical evening induced introspection though she didn’t get a chance to comment as the new arrival spoke up. Like Az, she had seen the woman at Voodoo, though typically she seemed to have her nose buried into a book. Tiamat had attended her Halloween party, though she wasn’t sure she had made a decent impression on the woman then. ”Hello,” she nodded politely as she was introduced.

The red-head wasn’t impressed with the woman who came over to barge in on their conversation without so much as a ‘pardon me’. Even if it was an introduction, it was still polite to adhere to social niceties. The woman’s name was filled away for later reference as the mention of knives and guns set her awareness on edge. Such things were not mentioned in these settings, though now she was curious and would have to ask Every about it later. She was sure there was a story there and she was dying to know what this Faith’s issue was. An eyebrow raised as Azraeth seemed to put his verbal foot down; she took a moment to appraise the woman. A paladin though it seemed she was a bit newer to it though that certainly didn’t excuse the behavior. She could have gleefully giggled as the woman blinked out of existence knowing that it hadn’t been by choice. A sly look was given at the Mystic as she mouthed her question ‘Where?’

Finally, she could answer the question she had been asked earlier. ”I’d love to go build a snowman. Childish, I know, but it’s been…too long… since the last time.” She wasn’t about to admit that she’d only ever built a single snowman around age 5 to a room full of press and strangers. ”While I plan to steer clear of the reindeer, perhaps a walk of the grounds would be a suitable alternative.” It’d also be a break from the stuffiness of the ball room. ”Hitting the dance floor is pretty high up there too.” Again, she wasn’t about to mention the first and last time she’d done that was a couple months ago. ”Getting my medications for these allergies pretty much tops the list, though,” she added in a whisper barely high enough for Azraeth to hear.

”Please excuse me for a bit.” It was likely a bit abrupt but the dull, roaring ache in her head was now accompanied by a sharp stabbing pain that signaled the onset of an allergy-induced migraine. She only had roughly ten minutes to take her meds before she was out of commission for the evening at best or the week at worst. She gave Azraeth a small smile as she mentally supplied him with further information, I need my allergy meds before I end up out for the count. I think I’m also going to address one of our… issues as well. There was a small pause where it seemed like the blood thief was debating something. Do me a favor and keep an eye on Ayuka? I don’t think people are happy with her presence. Which was certainly a major factor in the red-head’s decision; siren or not… purple people eater or not… everyone deserved a chance to enjoy the party without issues. She’d been on the outside long enough to know how suspicious most tended to be. Add in that the Asian was a siren and the Administrator seemed to think they had it out for vampires; it could get ugly fast. Especially with the paladins also starting to make themselves known.

She nodded at Every, Flynn and the others as she departed from the group. As she walked towards where she hoped the bathrooms were, she sent Every her own telepathic message. Her eyes scanned the crowds as she weaved through the gathered people. She frowned as she realized Santa-Ripper was not to be found. Another round of thoughts were sent to Every and Azraeth in turn; she really needed to see if there was a way to include multiple people in one. Looks like Ripper’s slipped off. I don’t see him in here… Her red tresses bounced as she shook her head, continuing her journey.

As a matter of fact, she hadn’t seen Doc either, but given Elizabeth didn’t seem concerned about that, she wasn’t worried. Hopefully he was mingling and attempting to enjoy himself at least a little. Still, she didn’t want either to worry if they came looking for her, so each was sent their own message. I need to head home for my allergy medication. I’ll be back shortly… I may run one other errand as well. If they wanted to know, they would ask, but she wanted to keep it simple not knowing how they were currently engaged. It was that rationale she used to slip a quiet, gentle thought to Ayuka, I will return in a few moments. There is something I need to attend to.

In a hallway off the ballroom, she had been greeted with a selection of doors. She supposed she could have just asked one of the elves to point her towards the restrooms, but they had seemed busy enough without having to give directions or escorts. The first couple doors she had tried had been locked. The third had seemed to be a version of a janitor’s closet, only nicer and much better organized. It was filed away in case she couldn’t find what she was after. The next room, though it wasn’t the sought after bathroom, seemed to be an abandoned storage room where unused furniture had been piled. She was surprised it wasn’t locked, but she wasn’t about to complain about that right now given it was perfect for what she was after. Locking the door, she concentrated on her apartment before quietly disappearing.

As she reappeared in her apartment, she was already heading to the bedroom. She tossed her overstuffed stocking on the kitchen counter as she went; she wasn’t taking it back to the party with her. The pouch of money from earlier in the night was tossed on to the bed as she opened the drawer of the nightstand to pull out a couple pill bottles. She shook out a single pill from each before replacing the bottles and retreating to the kitchen. From the fridge, she nabbed a bottle of water; large sips of the clear liquid helping to convey the pills to their new home. With the bottle empty, she tossed it on the counter.

She took a brief moment to retrieve a pouch from one of her lockboxes before disappearing again. This time she reappeared at a ritual altar thankful the tome made it easy. Emptying the contents of the pouch on the altar, she sorted them out, returning the extra binders to the container for later use. A single hawk’s eye was set out first with an antique something or other placed beside it carefully. The bone of one of the stronger mooncalves was laid beside the pair in a neat line. Two vials of blood – one from a sorcerer and the other from a paladin – were added next in line before the spread was completed with a small pile of Bishop’s Weed.

After a moment’s pause, she took everything except the hawk’s eye and Bishop’s Weed and placed it into circle where she’d bind the demi-fae. Her ritual dagger slid into her hand as she stepped back around the altar. She was good at these, but not skilled enough to trust there being no barrier between them. Pricking the tip of her finger, she smeared the blood on the hawk’s eye before tossing it in the circle. Better to have the first binder in place than tempt fate in her opinion. A drop of blood was squeezed onto the bundle of plants. Picking it up, she carefully and clearly called forth the demi-fae by name, ”Seus, I summon thee.”

She waited for the demi-fae to appear before she continued. Each time she got to a spot where she wasn’t sure of the word to use, she’d test them out till the demi seemed to respond positively. A fair amount of bloodied hawk’s eyes had ended up by the time she was eighty percent done. Switching to English, ”Goddess above. Dammnit, you little fairy fucktard, stop trying to break out. It’s not going to work and I have a party to get back to. Wasting my time is not in your best interest.” She had growled lightly before returning to the mysterious fae language and completing the ritual. Either her threat had worked or it was tiring as the last few words of the ritual passed without incidence. As soon as the items she had placed in the circle disappeared, she breathed a sigh of relief. The demi had accepted its appointed task; both the grounds and manor of the Mayor’s residence would be protected from violence now.

A quick look around to ensure nothing was left out of place later; she disappeared to reappear in the still-locked room she had initially left from in the manor. Unlocking the door, she slipped out, careful not to be seen before heading back to the ballroom to rejoin the others. Mission accomplished.

Doc carefully weighed his next actions and words. He did not appreciate Mortll snide and rude insinuation she directed at Amalea. However, Doc trusted Amalea’s judgement. He knew Amalea was fully capable of reading the situation she was in and taking the appropriate countermeasures if needed. That wasn’t an issue for him. What was an issue what that Mortll had an axe to grind against him, and she wanted to drag it out into the open with everyone. He also didn’t appreciate was how Mortll was dragging Amalea specifically into it. He knew Mortll was doing it merely to get a rise out of him. As much as he wanted to give Mortll a scathing response, he ignored her.

He ignored Mortll because Amalea sent him a thought. She was leaving the ball to go collect her allergy medicine. Frowning, Doc felt a twinge on guilt, because he didn’t know that Amalea had allergies or what the allergy was to. He presumed it was to perfume. It was a Ball. Some women loved to douse themselves in the stuff. He didn’t need to breathe, but even he felt suffocated by the clouding sickly perfume some females felt the need to slather on. He sent Amalea a thought, ~Alright.~ He wanted to say more. Ask questions. Demand answers. But he trusted her. If she needed him, she was call.

It was clear to him, Mortll would purposely discount anything he said. Focusing his thoughts on Zodiac alone now, he felt no need to desire to update Mortll, who would most likely use anything he said as reason to stab at him again and again. ~There is something off. What it is .. I am not sure. Is it why the Mayor isn’t here? Does it have anything to do with the Spider woman? I do not know. What I do know, is that there are too many innocent people here for anything to be allowed to happen. Nothing good will come from it. I am headed back in. My presence is not welcome here, I might as well go mingle. ~

He finished his cigarette with a final drag, then he pinched the end of it to completely extinguish it. Pushing off the column, he moved back midway across the veranda toward the door, putting some distance between himself and Mortll. Pointedly he looked back at Zodiac, “I hope you have a lovely evening.”

Doc reentered through the front door, and paused just over the threshold, to ponder which direction he would head.

“Care to try a sugar plum spritzer?” A cherub cheeked face presented a sudden offer that had the path he was heading in closed off temporarily. “I won’t even ask for your I.D. before serving you.”

While the sway back and forth to an unheard tune took over the waitress’ hips a set of neatly shaped brows wiggled along with the peppermint sticks that basked in the drinks. Sparkling glasses full and for the offering formed a circle around the serving tray held at shoulder height on the elf in waiting. Bohan’s eyes lifted up to discover the elf he had been tracking made easy work of getting away. Perhaps that is why he was being introduced to the possibility of a sugar plum spritzer instead? He eyed the glasses and allowed the potential change in what he had been drinking to dance around his head.

“Not sure I am a sugarplum spritzer kind of guy.” His decision was made. If it wasn’t what she expected to hear then so be it. “I would be more of a tall flute full of bubbly or a couple fingers worth of something that bites hard and holds on.”

It was then that his body stepped forward without notice thanks to the bump of a body and a tray coming up behind him closer than it should. He stretched an arm back as if to provide a assisting block to limit any further contact. The tugging of his jacket at the left had him turning around and taking his eyes off the cherub cheeked elf in front of him. When he did the body and tray behind him was already gone. A couple in their seventies dripping in the finest couture labels smiled at him.

“Good evening.”

His smile mirrored those still fixed on the new faces he was looking at. The extra weight unknowingly introduced to his jacket pocket barely registered with Bohan thanks to the movement of his hands to balance out his jacket with firm brushes of his palms down the front. The salt and pepper headed businessman extended a hand in his direction. Greeting was the obviously the key. Everything else had to wait. Bubbles, sugar plum spritzers, sisters and stunning females as well as mischievous elves, oh my!

“Yes it is.” The hand was warm, work rough at the center as it gave Bohan’s own a firm well intending shake. “Caris Perrington.” The artist’s hand was free to go as the one that held it slipped around the Versace gown wrapped waist beside him. “Bitsy.” He said the single word as if it was a name. Was it? One of those big money, college sorority names perhaps.
“Mr.Perrington. Mrs. Perrington. It is a pleasure. Bohan O'Daimhin.” So perhaps it was not as much so for him as it seemed for the couple based on the smiles the continued to wear while looking at him.
“No need for that, son.” The man chuckled. “Mrs. Perrington couldn’t make it tonight. The maid managed to give my wife food poisoning. Catty women can be like that. Bitsy is her dutiful stand in.” Bohan did a double take on the woman who gradually climbed from his shoes up the leg of his pants with her shameless gaze. In that time Carris was quick to score a dark green glass clouded up with frost and steam rising from the rim. By the time the distracted artist took note the drink was inserted in his rising hand. “Think you need to try one of those on for size, boy. No need to be soft tonight. Go hard or hell…” Bitsy snickered in a way that Bohan glancing back at her. “Go home.” Bitsy finished up the line he never would have guessed would come from the pairs mouths.
“I couldn’t agree more, Sir. Cheers.” The dark glass raised and once the couple followed with their flutes and clink of all meeting in the air between them was heard he brought the concoction to his lips.
“Enjoy your night.” Carris nodded to the distance and appeared to be making another connection in the swelling crowd.

Bohan waited until Bitsy floated behind Carris before taking his leave and continuing on the direction he had been heading. A sip here and there had him thinking about campfires and tropical fruit. It didn’t end there. Something with the hint of pine needles he wasn’t in the habit of chewing on...Tanqueray perhaps? The dry gin was known to be picked out no matter how well it was hidden. He eyed down the surface of the glass briefly until the surface of the contained liquid managed to nearly jump out and threaten with splashing on his suit.

“Sorry about that.” A pat down at his chest of a napkin decorated with festive patterns took a brief second or two before it disappeared. “So sorry. Hey, where did he go?!”

Bohan was about to ask who but the nameless guest disappeared before he could offer his assistance. He shrugged and within a few more long steps in his casual stride he found himself standing at the edge of the indoor portion of the party and taking in the great outdoors included in the festivities. A cool chill in the air coupling the visual of fires around snowmen circled by  busy bedecked elves and stocking caps bouncing around reminded him he hardly was geared for an outside hike. The warmth of the liquid in the frosted up glass in his palm inspired him to give it his effort nonetheless. He stepped into the night air and ventured forward with the curiously infused drink in hand.

As the glow of the Yule Log died, and with her company's continued silence, Ari's focus to her previous goal returned. The interest in the security feeds was two fold, to monitor the goings on of her staff with the product she had brought, and to monitor the house as a whole. reaching out with her mind, she was able to tether into the mansion's network again, but something was continuing to interfere with the entire security system. A through check of the network as she finished off the remainder of her drink revealed that there were no other hackers anywhere near her level in the system, which rules out a specific set of explanations about the inaccessibility of the security systems. Normally, she had a series of equipment that she would use to scan for disruptive or out of place technology. Being that she was in an evening gown, she only had her hand held devices and her wits.

Yay for wits.

Setting down her now empty glass, she turned on her heel and took a casual stroll out to an unoccupied section of the balcony. The brunette closed her eyes and allowed herself a moment to take in the quiet comforts of the chilled night air, all the while reaching down into her well of powers until she found the special one which allowed her the ability to sense everything and everyone currently in the building. The power was like a string of light inside of her mind. She plucked it once, ripples traveling from that string and along her nerves until she felt an increased awareness of her surroundings. Taking one deep, final breath of the cool night air, she turned and regarded the room from her place in the doorway before stepping back into the ballroom.

It was like someone had uploaded a map of the building, a complete guest and staff list, and every gadget one could possibly imagine directly into her head. The power of having that information was... intoxicating. Ari flexed her fingers as she did a quick mental scan of the room in order to locate the device she believed to most likely at fault for blocking her from gaining access to the house's security system. Plucking a drink from a passing tray, and wandered over to the tree where the donated gifts had been gathered. The stunning collection of presents had been piled high by the many attendees, however a few stood out to her as unfit for their intended recipients. Folding her arms in a dainty fashion, Ari positioned her voluminous skirts over one particular package with a lovely red ribbon bow on top. While seemingly occupied with her drink and watching the ice skating outside, Ari took the substantial heel she wore and shoved the stiletto tip through the package, and the electromagnetic emitter she knew to be concealed within.

She let out a sigh as she felt the security systems sputter back to life through the tether in her mind, and the pop of a champagne cork behind her let her knew that Finley her gotten her message about the camera concealed at the top of the tree. One or two well aimed corks and that one would be off line as well. Sliding her heel out of the now ruined package, Ari carefully tucked a few other gifts around the red bow in order to cover the damage until Finley could gather it up when he came to collect the corks he was just so carelessly shooting.

One further thing that had been confirmed for her, even before the security system restarted. The rumors that she had heard were true, and Bancroft was absolutely not on the premises.

Her eyes drifted back to the bar that Doc had been at, and noticed he was...gone. As Alaric made his way over in her direction, Elizabeth's blue hues searched for Doc. Still not finding him, she frowned for a brief second, before eyes fell on Amalea who didn't seem concerned. Elizabeth 'assumed,' Doc was fine based off that and mingling as she had suggested.

"I am surprised to see you this evening." Elizabeth stated as she smiled once again and took the offered elbow. That would be best... She silently replied through the use of mindspeak, as they slowly walked, Elizabeth avoiding large crowds that gathered in any particular area. I have been informed that the host of tonight's festivities, the Mayor, has been called away. Everything seems copacetic, but this is the event of the year for him, I imagine. Does that not seem peculiar? Perhaps Elizabeth was just paranoid, but if her family were at the event, she would appreciate the gesture and knowledge being shared with her.

"But, it is good to see you." She said with a warm smile, always finding Alaric's presence and company welcoming, and pleasurable. "There are a lot of familiar faces this evening. In the sense of those cut of the same cloth.." She indicated, as Amalea's thoughts slipped into her mind, Elizabeth watching the woman vanish from the party a few seconds later. "Do you and yours have plans for tomorrow?" A conversation within a conversation, but for appearance sakes, Elizabeth was not going to let on what she was really focused on-the safety of everyone here.

The hug surprised Ainsley, so much she probably had the whole 'deer in headlights' look. "Ummm...Thank you." Ainsley said, not certain what brought the offer about. It wasn't really thought about or weighed too heavily, as it was more than likely the two would never meet again after tonight. Different social circles and all; still, Ainsley added, "I'll keep the offer in mind." She smiled to the woman. Who knows? They might meet again one day.

Her brother was off without saying many words. Other than those deemed polite. "Sorry about that. About him." Ainsley apologized to her new 'friend' of the night. "We've been going through some family things." Ainsley left it at that, knowing the loss of Gabriel had affected Bohan too. "He's mostly word of mouth, but..." She stopped and looked around, making sure Bohan was far enough away before she continued. "Between us girls, I started designing a website for his art, if you're looking for something local and not outrageously priced. Go online and check out O'Daimhin exhibits." Ainsley offered before the attention shifted off her brother and on to her.

"Me?" She said, glancing around, almost somewhat nervously. "Nothing as fabulous as Bohan. I design greeting cards for those of us in the world that are fed up with seeing the same, hardly personalized greeting card. My talents cover decadent handwriting, a quick hand with a pair of scissors and...glitter. Sometimes a lot of the last bit." Ainsley laughed, before thinking about the company Ayuka worked for. "Wow. So much more promising than designing greeting cards. That's wonderful, incredible and inspiring." Ainsley comments, eyes on Bohan as he started striking up a conversation. "Do you know the Mayor? Meaning, do you think he has any more holiday surprises up his sleeve for us all?" Ainsley asked, eyes back on Ayuka, interested in her thoughts on the mayor and tonight's events.

by Alaric von der Marck
The information was astounding, Alaric would admit. But as a family man, Alaric wondered about all the legitimate reasons the Mayor may have decided to skip the event. The elder would admit that he knew nothing about the Mayor outside of his political life. Was he married? Did he have children? If so, what was his wife like? Did she support everything that he did, or was she bitter because he was too absorbed in his job and not enough in family life?

”Perhaps it is nothing to be worried for,” he offered, privately. ”Perhaps he has a family, and they have demanded his attention tonight. He has chosen them over his work. The siren? Perhaps they do not think of the vampires they will inconvenience in the closing of the rift, but instead only of the other dangerous undead creatures who will remain gone. The… zombies, the fadecreatures,” he said. He liked to be optimistic when it suited, and shouldn’t that be the spirit of a Christmas ball? ”You are right to be concerned, however. I will keep my eyes open,” he said. He would not belittle Elizabeth’s paranoia. She’d been awake in this age more than he had, and her instincts regarding it would be stronger.

”Tomorrow… I hope it will be quiet,” he said. Normally the von der Marcks all flocked for Christmas. The annual Christmas party. They’d had one last year and it had been overwhelming. This year, Alaric had used his patriarchal power to move the annual gathering to New Year’s Eve, so that Christmas could be spent in pyjamas (which he had grown quite fond of) around a fire, with only those in the family he had grown to like and trust. ”Just a small gathering, nothing… this extravagant,” he said.

He’d opened his mouth to repeat the question, to ask Elizabeth what her plans may be -- to tell her just how comforting it was to see her here, at this event, when he was suddenly hit with an onslaught of electric signal. He’d wondered what had been missing; he’d wondered why it had been so easy for him to move around, his senses coping. Someone had cloaked the wireless signals, and now they were all back again. Alaric flinched, fingers at his temple and eyes closed momentarily as he tried his best to build the wall up, to lock it all out. He still hadn’t figured out how best to deal with technology.

”Ich entschuldige mich,” he finally managed. ”What of you? What plans have you…?” he asked, trying not to sound forcibly strained but no doubt failing.

The killer continued moving closer. Closer and closer to his target. As large as he was, he moved with the grace of a hunting cat, cutting easily through the crowd as the humans innately moved from his path, the subconscious fear of prey confronted with a predator. It seemed that more and more of those he considered his, had spread and moved closer to the doors, almost as if they to felt something off in the atmosphere. Ariadne was within the room still, though now there was a smile of satisfaction on her face. Someone was successful in their endeavors this night. A smile crossed his face, as he reached out with his mind, “Are your wares being offered here this night, Madame Ari?”. Moving closer still he reached for the Fairbairne-Sykes secreted along the inner edge of his forearm. This would be easy, one more siren erased from the city, one less matriarch taking over a city building with her mutated spawn lurring citizens to their death. He had taken out many Jorgomo matriarchs across the city in the past years, wiping their whole broods from the face of the earth. Now that they were releasing mutate experiments into the tunnels to the north, setting them free upon the world, it was time to step up the game.

What. The. ****. There was no overt movement, he was too well trained, too experience, too smooth, but there was no *snick* of kydex releasing a blade. A low growl emmanated from Mordechai’s throat. A rapid thought fled from his mind “Zodiac, did you cast Eiriene’s on this place? I cannot take out that *****…” Moving closer, edging into her personal space The seven foot ten Sangue looked down on the diminutive Asian woman hiding beneath the glamour as he withdrew all of his, letting his true aura of death bleed out, Extending a hand his lips curled into a smile that came nowhere near his eyes, “Good eve, I have heard so much about your company” His other hand raised casually as one finger tipped his stetson to her.
