In an ideal situation, heh. Yes, those would be nice. Fantastical, but lovely to think about. How few times such things could occur. She said she didn't appear to the world the way she really looked. That admittedly gave him uncertainty, he knew vampires had some powers, but this implied it was a more common thing. He didn't know whether or not vampires could do that constantly and still look human, even though he himself technically was doing exactly that, hiding his true face. It made him further uncertain on what she was. Human, vampire, not a siren surely, but what other options could she have? Fae? He found it unlikely any Fae would bother with such mundane things like this, but there had been unusual moments in the past that he'd interacted with one, it hadn't gone as well as he'd have liked. Though he thankfully felt no repercussions from it, yet.
She told him she knew what he was because of his aura, he could believe that. Of all the things, it was hardly the most difficult to believe. Naturally, he knew the ability to perceive anothers nature was also not specific to anything. Paladins he knew were particularly good at telling vampires from others, that was a skill he would have greatly relished. "I've been living here awhile. I think the ability to perceive aura's is one of the least surprising pieces of information. I just needed the method you chose." Because I have one for vampires, that works most of the time. he thought before trying to hide it, he didn't want to alert them to the possibility he would test it. Mirrors were reliable, but for him to actually see her with one, he might have to turn his back on her, or at least his head, and then she'd know what he was doing. He couldn't risk it, if she was one at all. Though, even if she wasn't a vampire, he wasn't sure he would want his back to her.
He glanced at the falling cigarette, then back up as she continued. He chuckled slightly at the mention of his 'gunplay' with the vampire. How much she knew about his 'kind' was disconcerting. He was considering what he should do regardless. A vampire was a certain target, but even as a human were she to go to far with these investigations of hers she could prove problematic. And while he was for humanity as a whole, a threat to his kind was still a threat. And had the potential to need to be eliminated. "A bit of gunplay can go a long way. That particular vampire was weaker than expected, but they were hardly the first. Besides, I may not be what you think I am, but that doesn't mean I don't have alternative methods."
He smiled, this time, it held clear threat with it, "But I imagine, in the future, you might want to be careful with who you watch. there's a lot of dangerous beings in this city. Aura's or not, you may never know which ones could be deadly."
Valerian stepped back and to the side, simply expecting her to either walk past, or consider attacking. He could never admit to what he was unless he was sure she wasn't recording him. And even without that, he would be hesitant. One of the few times he was pushed to revealing it, and hadn't killed the victim, it involved a fae toying with him and a human, a human he thoroughly petrified he believed. That right now might not be as much an option, far too much risk associated. He was going to research her, much as he could. Try and find her face, try and find anything he could about a telepath or mind speaker or thought sender, whatever they might be called. See what could be matched.
One could never be too careful. He'd be watching his tracks even more thoroughly than he normally did for awhile.
