Because we have been quite active in the writing department.

Could we not open up an advertising forum for guests? There are so many other places we could advertise if they were able to reciprocate on our forum.

Maybe even tumblr?
The whole reason the game is as easy as it is now was to accomodate writers that cant game... As there are millions more gamers than writers... If you want the game to grow you should aim at gamers as they will have no problem playing, and would be more likely to stick around

I kind of agree with this. Writers come, see the complexity of the game, and aren't prepared. Gamers are used to complexity of games.

You can't force writers to game, or gamers to write.

When you start, you are thrown onto the grid, not the forum. Suggestion. If someone selects "Roleplayer/Writer" have it send them to the forum.

I think both components - gamers and writers are important for Path in different ways. Writers are predominantly (but not entirely) the ones who steer the direction of the story on Path. Gamers keep the grid interesting by finding new and interesting ways to play, and strategies to get ahead.

Both gamers and writers are competitive in different ways, and competition is good for a site like this.

I've never honestly understood the divide between gamer and roleplayer. I don't really think of myself as a hardcore gamer or a hardcore RPer. I just kind of dabble in both worlds and try to enjoy both XD

That being said, David and I are currently gearing our advertisements towards both groups. We're going to be tracking who ends up sticking around more in the long run (because there are a number of gamers who aren't going to like the energy system game mechanics of Path). We will target advertisements from there.

That being said, having a more diverse advertising strategy isn't a bad idea at all, and any way to cast a wider net while we're working on honing in on the groups most likely to play Path long term is totally encouraged and welcome - from gamers, writers and everyone in between.

This is a fair point, and something we've considered. I would add to this: 1000 gamers are more likely to contain 10 roleplayers, compared to 100 roleplayers containing 10 gamers. We realise it's easier to bring in people as gamers, and then encourage them towards roleplay (not just written roleplay, but roleplay as a way of participating in the game).

Gamers tend to be dissatisfied with Path, though, whereas roleplayers tend to stick around longer. Having said that, yeah people are making a good point, and giving equal attention to both players types is a good idea, at least to see which group sticks it out the most.

Im pretty much a full gamer now that dabbles in RPs. I'd rather hold contests and give people a reason to write, then write myself. I have more fun tinkering on the grid and planning new things that would be fun to add

This game is old-school style a bit retro. Again I like it because you can't have powers in role-playing that you don't have on the grid. I enjoy writing and combat too. You get bored of all over the Internet everyone having every power that could possibly be conceived and no weakness. This game limits that and makes it more of a fair role-playing field added with the ability to actually battle with the grid mechanics.(which could be why some role players don't stay they want to feel super special and God mod all the time) It takes away the horrible ramped it Godmodding that runs most forms.

Which I think is quite an awesome idea, by the way, David. Which is my main drawl to this game to be completely honest. I got hooked on rp from Kira and Doc, and a few other players that were really cool to me when I first started. Over time I've made more friends and gotten into a lot more role-plays.

Path s a certain type of player game, I don't see this game that complicated. I think you guys don't realize you're looking for a niche of a group of people which is kind of hard. Gamers are used to something a lot more complicated and interactive in this day and age. So catching the younger crowd is a little bit more difficult being that there used to a lot more in your face interface. Role players love to role-play they either like that style of form or they don't. That particular niche fits them or it doesn't. It just kind how goes.

This is exactly what I've been trying to express to people. Gamers are used to better graphics and quests and things like that, so there's so little interest from real gamers. Roleplayers aren't all into the idea that they have to work to get powers, so there's only interest from certain types of roleplayers. So the niche market is the type of old school gamer who yearns for text based browser gaming, or roleplayers who want to grind to level up their character in order to play them as being more powerful. Neither group is very easy to pin down, and both groups are quite small.
