Eureka was a wild card. Feisty and fiery and die-hard feminist without ever claiming the title. It came natural. It wasn’t even feminism, per se, but a lack of a need to follow anyone’s orders or be held under anyone else’s thumb – man or woman. Physical intimacy wasn’t something she often engaged in. Intimacy denoted a softness, a gentleness that Eureka lacked. Every now and again she could be lulled and coaxed. She was every bit like the Molly Cat moniker that she had claimed for herself. Cats by nature didn’t crave company nor physical comfort. They generally disliked, or at least had a strong disinterest in, everyone upon first meeting them. Only after weeks, sometimes months of getting to know a person would they warm up. Maybe even curl up in a lap.

When the arm snaked around her torso, a low growl sounded in her throat. Her body tensed, but she didn’t pull away. Not immediately. She took what she needed from the male with greater ferocity, pulling the blood from his body as if sucking juice from a straw, waiting for the sound of sucked air in the box that was his body. The bodies of her prey were generally squeezed like those juice boxes, too. Squeezed until they were dry and desiccated.

Not this one, though. If he took her blood at the same rate that she took his, then his body would soon replenish itself. Soon, his body would wage war with itself as vampire blood was absorbed into the system, as human DNA was replaced by something more powerful. Something magical. An hour of pain, maybe, for a lifetime of freedom. Eureka was of the opinion that it was well worth the sacrifice.

Eventually, she pulled her lips from his wrist and remained an anchor; the blood would take, or it would not. She’d soon find out.
