If it is just a shadow.. that's akin to a wraith. So it's not that special really? Except that it can wield a weapon.. BUT... how does a -shadow-.. carry and wield a weapon?
It's not a shadow, it's a vampire with a shadow-like body. It has physical presence, as shown by the fact that they can steal etc.
As for them being something other than simply physical doubles of their masters, I went with the mythological idea of doppels which says they are like a shadow that follows the owner around. That's just one myth, of course, but I liked it and felt it also limits what they can do in RP too. Besides, it's too late to change them in RP terms, but they've always been able to steal, so it makes sense that they can hold weapons.

So then ... They cannot speak?
They can steal. So can a thrall.
They can attack. So can a thrall.
I guess I am not seeing the mastery level point of them. Its a black being that will stand out to humans..so you would have hide them, is what I am getting. Is that right?
They are high maintenance because you have feed them every day... Human thrall you dont.
I rather liked the idea of a look alike, because I can see the benefit of that. Alibis, dopple attending that horrid business meeting you didnt want to attend... Messing with girlfriend's mind..

They also, from what I understand, have a small portion [1/3] of your stats - a thrall does not.
You can also swap places with a dopple at will, which, you cannot do with a thrall.
Summon a shadow form thrall of yourself, who inherits 1/3rd of your stats. Can use Hide in Shadows, and exchange places with their master at will.
From the wiki! :]

While I can understand the point, the doppleganger does have a little more power behind it versus a thrall.

Clothing would make sense, but ruin them somewhat. They are sinister as black outlines. As for the other things, that's how they've been roleplayed all this time, so changing them now wouldn't be a good idea. The choice was made to make them unable to speak etc in order to make it so they aren't overpowered in RP. If the player can roleplay as their doppel being there, and them never having to even be there, then nobody can really do any damage to them but they can interact with everyone as much as they like.
Well, yes and no. I mean, say if dopple was being stupid at people, as a wraith or thrall was, some people just take it out on the owner.
Anyways, I'd just like to know what dopple can and can't do in grid terms and rp wise...and do they die/go to the realm? And why do they need blood? For rp purposes, cause I have a few that could get dopple, but I've just not. So wondering if it's worth it.

Also, split the discussion from bugs to here. :]

In terms of what Dopplegangers are capable of doing on grid (as opposed to meant to do, or allowed to do), I completed a stealth raid with one... as in walked it in the front door and used it to complete it all on it's own, relic and all. That was reported and I believe it either isn't possible to get the relic or counts as the 'owner's stealth raid for the month. Mine readily turns spare computer parts and motion sensors into sensor alarms when I need one for crafting, and can readily go break into lowish difficulty BnE for parts I don't want to spend my energy collecting.
They perform everything but fighting reasonable well without blood. Took me a while to realise they could increase their blood, even longer to realise they can feed.

That's super cool and helpful. thank you. I'm surprised to hear that they managed a stealth raid with 1/3 skills set tho...because if you have a stealing of 25...well, 1/3 of that is like...average in terms, I guess. But, still cool! That actually makes me want one a little more than before-because if they were just fight based...well I don't do hordes of fighting. I'm sad rp wise that they're kinda just meh. Worse than a wraith, really. Which, I do a lot more rp than anything...so that's the only real turn off I guess. I have to weigh between the pros and cons of grid vs rp.
Can I ask if their blood count goes past 10?

My understanding of a Doppelganger was that it was supposed to look like the person ... a person or spirit that wasn't related to the person that looked exactly like the person ... so it being a shadow or having no resemblance really doesn't make any sense to me.... and with that If I got someone running around looking like me I damn sure hope they have clothes on !

Mine doesn't have the stats to go past 10 blood, but that's because my healing isn't huge, they get 1/3rd stats, so if you had max healing, they might?? I forget the calculation.
But yeah, thing to remember, the dopple is only okay capable of doing things you do reaaaalllllly well. I certainly consider it having been thoroughly worth it.

My personal point of view on this.. is that its a waste of a mastery power.
Its a black figure. Would stand out. Has to be fed.
It does get 1/3 the powers of the Original.. but its a black figure. Its not like it can go out 'unnoticed'. So yea, like Llang does.. he has his craft. Or raid. But .. I want that on my vampire.. not his dopple. My preference.
The master does see what the dopple sees. But If you have Masters gaze rp power - so does that power. So nothing new there.
It can steal. So can a human thrall. It can steal a higher grade of stuff.. Maybe.. if the master has high levels in stealing. If he / she doesnt.. then no?
It can attack. So can a human thrall. It has more attack power than a human thrall. But I have seen human thralls kick ***, better than the vampire master even. So.. not sold on that one.
I really do not see how that type of dopple is a mastery thing. It is high maintenance and we can do everything (except the levels) with other regular grid powers or role play powers. So its sorta a moot point, for Doc's needs. Will just use Decoy power and security cams.
The Dopple talking would have been Good though.
