All posts on that board are automatically considered open by default, unless they have "[closed]" in their title. So nope. Doing so will still get you 10x RPP, same as not doing it.

Also, side note: just to remind people that putting [open] in any RP thread, on any board will give you 1.5x RPP for each post. That's been around for a while now.

There are a lot of new threads in the one section...there's no tag in them at all.

I'm just wondering which, if any are open threads? Or is that an area where we should assume they are all open unless it says closed?

Also, I'm just going to ask this here - the new update says we can put ARES in any thread tag now. So, if there is a thread already started - can we update the title with ARES and it'll start the storyteller system?

Yes! You can indeed. You should just put it in your next post title (example shown for this post) and it should work.

This does also work for removing the tag for a given post, if you don't want random events for that one post. However, you'll only get standard RPP for each post where you remove the tag.
