Judge. Jury. Executioner. How many times had Az taken on all of those roles in his life? Was he misleading Flynn by not admitting that he had killed people in the past? Not indiscriminately. But vampires didn’t generally wait for an actual judge to give a ruling before sinking their fangs into someone. There were times when the blood hunger became too powerful to do anything but act. Violently. Dangerously. Lethally. Maybe it wasn’t a lie of omission because it was a given that ‘everyone made mistakes’. Vampires just happened to make mistakes that resulted in death. That was the problem with those slippery slopes. When accommodations were made for a certain sub-sect of people; it created an imbalanced system. Where Vampires got to be the bad guys. And then Paladins got to be the bad guys. And then everything just went to ****, because nobody was really ‘right’, and everyone was just fighting against their own special boogey man. “It takes a lot of courage. No. Resolve. It takes a lot of resolve to know what you’re about like that. Totally digging it. Admiring? There we go, I really admire that.” He murmured, his elbow lifting to very lightly nudge against Flynn’s ribs. Not hard enough to hurt, but enough to draw the human’s attention. “Besides. You’re not going to be on an island alone. Got it? I’m not a vampire (Well I am). But I’m an Azraeth first. And a Worthington. And a Dragomir. I know that doesn’t probably mean anything to you, but we march to the beat of our own drums. Always. Unapologetically.”
And then Flynn was pulling away. For a moment, the Mystic wondered if he’d said something wrong, and he searched the other man’s features. Perhaps the Paladin was good at hiding what he felt, or maybe it was just restlessness of the legs. Whatever the case, Az felt absolved of potential wrongdoing. Which was about the time his phone buzzed again. He figured Flynn was doing ‘over there’ stuff, by the tree, so he decided to quickly check it out. Moments later, he was tapping out a response to Amalea - he was going to need to continue the text conversation at some point. He paused though, so he could creep back over to Flynn. “Cheese!” He said, as he used his phone to capture a selfie...where the human just happened to be in the frame, though the other man seemed to be staring at the entrance of the Longslade building. Oh well. He sent the message off.
“Something tells me, you do that without much effort.” He replied, really without even thinking about it. Momentary lapse of filter. And. Well. He’d said it, might as well just roll with it. He offered a smile that showed off entirely too many of his teeth. “As for what I do. It’s actually kind of boring. I teach late late night classes at the local University. Just your basic intro to Anthropology stuff. Oh, and a class on the occult. I have a degree in Cultural Anthro, with a heavy heavy focus on shamanic religions. I also help to maintain some local attractions, like the Dragomir Temple...think of it as a truly haunted Gothic cathedral, and the Cryptozoological Society.” By that point, he had one hand up, and was counting. His gaze went a smidge glossy. “Before that, I worked at a museum for a while, but that was mainly just to try and steal certain uh. Items of historical and magical significance. And before that, I was a text translator. Slight boner for dead languages.” His fingers were basically all down at that point, as he’d tapped each of them. He then shook out his fingers and shrugged.
“I guess you could say I just really love learning and teaching. But I would be equally happy working at a bookstore or comic shop or something. I mean really I’m basically just a bit of a goldmine of nerdisms.” He explained before he finally moved to stand right in front of Flynn.
Okay. So he wanted to see some action. He ended up fishing out his phone again, this time typing out another message.
To Mortll : Hey, bosslady! I’m going to drag the new blood into the facility. We’ll catch you and whoever else shows up in there? See you guys soon!
And once his phone was back in his pocket, his hand jutted out in front of him, fingers spread in offering to the Paladin. “Come with me. I think it’s time we see if we can do a little bit of damage. Besides. If we’re playing a game of ‘question for a question’, I do believe it’s my turn, and I’m not about to lose.” He nodded from where his gaze focused on Flynn’s face, to the facility entrance, and then back, with another faint grin.
