She could sense that the other vampire had been around far longer than she had, for there was just something about him, something about that aura of not seeming threatened at all, that gave it away. Her anger only seemed to increase more at the mention of 'knowing her', and while though there was also a brief moment of recognition, the sneer quickly returned. With a hostile and arrogant tone in her voice, she spoke: "I don't know you, and I don't owe you... Though if you know -her-, that explains how -weak- you are in your conviction. You could be so much more than a protector of glorified -cattle-... and you can't protect her... -forever-..." She opened her arms eeriely welcomingly as she stepped backwards once again with a wicked grin on her face, playfully backing up into the foliage once more, knowing she would be no match, though soon enough there was no more sound entirely. While she seemed to have almost vanished into thin air, one might still have the crawling feeling in the back of one's mind... that she was still watching. Waiting. Somewhere.

As she watched the scene unfold before her, everything seemed to move in slow motion. Mr. Statistics had told her to keep still, and he hadn't needed to tell her twice. Rikki doubted that she could have moved, even if he had told her to run. Her thoughts were chaos, keeping her rooted to the spot. Her heartbeat thundered in her ears, though, which reminded her of just how much adrenaline was coursing through her veins. Even if her mind wasn't quite ready to make a run for it, her body was.

The man was using that same calming tone with this rabid...creature, but to no avail. They had met before, he said, with a Puma. If anything, she seemed to grow even more agitated with his interference. And when she spoke again, it only confirmed Rikki's suspicions. As quickly as she had come, the woman soon vanished with a clear threat hanging between them and the earth went still once more. The air was ominous and thick with wasted anticipation for a fight that never came, but it was the creature's words that stuck out in the blonde woman's mind. A protector of glorified cattle? Weak in his convictions?

Drilling holes into his back with her eyes, she remained quiet and thoughtful. He was out at night, well-equipped, and entirely unfazed by what had just happened. Like he understood. And the two of them had met once before. "...Oh, for the love of..." she moaned out, taking several steps back to put distance between the two of them once more. Perhaps she was jumping to conclusions. It was entirely possible that her mind was making leaps in the face of her reality shifting, determined to find enemies where there weren't any. Something about the way the conversation had gone down had the slightest doubt taking hold, and refusing to let go. "You're...like her, aren't you?" Still, she refused to use the word. That meant acceptance, and she wasn't quite there, yet.

Her voice was soft, hesitant, but lacked accusation. If he was, then she was faced with the reality that he had actually kept her safe from the other va--...creature. His motives were his own, but it didn't prevent the questions from bombarding her. Why? Was it some weird claim on her, since he saw her first? Were his words mere diversions, preventing a blood bath in a public park? While each question carried equal weight, the question that followed had nothing to do with him, or what he might be. "Do you...think she is going to come back?" So, she was still scared. With good reason, too. Whether he was like the woman, or not, he was still the lesser of two evils in this **** show of a night.

“She could come back. It’s doubtful. But she could.” He said through clenched teeth, shrugged, and holstered his weapon. “And in answer to your question, am I like her? No. She is female. I am male. She’s several bricks short of a full load, and I am sane. She is the midst of bloodlust, and I do not feed from humans.” She may not believe it. But he had not feed from a human in over two years. Yes he had been tempted on occasion. But bad things happened when he fed on humans. He could boost himself if needed, and there was always contraband blood bags. Hell animals were even a viable choice as well. But he wasn’t going to go into that.

Doc finally took the cigarette out of his mouth, and turned to look at her, “Did your parents not teach you that nothing good happens after midnight? Especially in city with Vampires? Let me guess though.. You didn’t believe the press? You thought ‘vampires are real’, was fake news. ******* CNN.” He flicked the ash off the cigarette, “Or did you think it was some group of people with a medical issue, hmm? Well guess what. We ******* exist.” His tone was patronizing. He sighed. He was out at night because that was his ‘day’. He was up when it was dark. He slept during the day. But she probably thought, ‘now he’s going to kill me…’ He took a long drag off the cigarette, dropped it to the ground and crushed it out.

“So have we learned a lesson tonight? I hope so. Now go home, and lock up.” Then he smiled in a very sinister manner, “And don’t invite strangers into your home.. alright?”

If the blonde woman had been expecting anything to happen after the tension had dissolved, it hadn't been this. The man, who as it turned out was, in fact, a vampire...whipped around on her, that same intimidation factor taking over. Of course, he had to make her feel small and insignificant for the second time that night, treating her like a child that had gotten in the way and needed to be put back in her place. The more condescending he became, the angrier she got.

"Excuse me?!" she finally snapped, small embers burning in her eyes. Without a second to consider the danger she was potentially putting herself in, she stepped up to him so that they were practically nose to nose, though she came up a little short and had to look up to him. "Let me make me one thing perfectly clear. I appreciate what you did, protecting me from her and her...bloodlust, did you call it?" she began, lifting a finger and poking it against his chest. "But, I don't care who or what you are. Do not patronize me. You are not better than I am just because you top me on the food chain and happen to know a little more about what goes in a city that I have been in all of a month, at most! It's not like I have anyone here to show me the ******* ropes!"

Without granting him a chance to respond, she turned away and marched toward the entrance of the park. Before she got too far, she stopped dead in her tracks with a sigh. "Dammit..." she muttered, turning back around to where she had left her bag on the ground, abandoned in haste. "That...totally ruins the dramatic exit..." she frowned, giving him one more hard look. "Oh, and for the record, I'm a 'see to believe' kind of girl. I don't take things on faith, alone. So, thank you...for providing me with the unavoidable truth of this God forsaken city. You're a true hero..."

That was the perfect way to leave things. There was no reason for her to linger, but a nagging part of her brain kept her still for only a moment longer. "Care about it, or not...you made sure I see another day when you didn't have to. I won't forget it..." she said softly with a single nod, slinging her bag over her shoulder and backtracking from him. Only when she had a hand on the park fence did she turn fully to head down the sidewalk, hoping her night could not get any more eventful.

Doc smirked slightly at her as she stalked up to him in all of her… firely petite little glory. He even lifted an amused eyebrow as she poked him with her little insignificant finger. Of course he wasn’t better than her, he was sure there were things she could do a lot better than him; cook, clean,.. Hell he bet she could iron a man’s shirt like nobody’s business. No he wasn’t better than her, but he was older, and more experienced, which he knew she realized.

Doc watched her whirl on her heel and with her tiny little chin jutted out, she left in an unhurried holier-than-thou march. He looked at her bag and counted softly, “One… two.. Three… “ He smirked openly when she turned about and came back for her bag stilted huff. “Spunky.” He said no more, as she once more started in on how she was justified in her righteous indignation; and gave him a backhanded compliment as she once more split.

Had she waited, Doc would have asked her to vote for him in the upcoming election, since he was running on a platform of cracking down on violence, and increasing the parking in the city. But resigned himself with, not getting slapped, kicked, or shot, for his ‘good deed’ of the night. He watched her as she left the park, reached in his pocket and got himself another cigarette, lit it, and then contacted Mar telepathically.

~You and I should talk. I can help you. But if you keep going the way you’re going,.. You are going to be put down.~

From the nighttime rooftops of a store near the park, she peered into the distance from which she'd warped herself. A brief journey through shadow that moved her from place to place, but that also enforced her darker thoughts. Unfailingly she searched for the woman, though the shadow jumps were always slightly disoriënting. Her eyes darted across the landscape and found... nothing. Whether the park's foliage had come in the way, or Maryl was looking the wrong direction, she'd lost the human she'd been threatening. Her very veins filled with fury, only futher antagonized by the telepathic message, unable to respond, vowing to herself that it would not end here. Vowing that she would grow strong enough not to let anything get between her and her prey, again. With fury and determination, she skulked elsewhere to continue the hunt... and horror would come to her next target...
