Let her into the hallway with a graceful side step, staying a short distance away so as not to intimidate with his height or closeness, it was one thing to press up close in a crowd, in a public place designed for such things, but a private residence? Give the girl her space, she was beaten up, tired probably and not in the mood for a guy in her space. “Hm, a ride? I’m wondering what the others look like, Indigo.” Her words concerned him, there had been an incident at the club, hadn’t there? A crash further away later that night, mangled bodies and cars smashed beyond recognition. She couldn’t have walked away from that, it had to be something else.
He opened his mouth to ask but decided it wasn’t the time, he needed to let her adjust to his presence.
“Look, I feel bad barging in on your bath, you look like you could use it.” He played it off with a hand reaching back to drag against the nape of his neck, adjusting his hair against the collar of his jacket. “I mean, you’re still beautiful of course, but you should be taking it easy not entertaining. I’m glad to have seen you got your belongings back, if you want me to go…” His words trailed off, even as he followed her towards the kitchen of the house. “Marina can catch me later if she’s interested in doing so, and don’t take this the wrong way, but i’m guessing she’s not the type to pursue a person too many times in a row.” There was no judgement in his voice, and there was no point hedging around it. The pair of them were party girls, that was much was evident, beautiful young things burning so brightly they were going to burn up soon, and fast.
Perhaps Indigo already had.
“Please, you’d make me feel better if you sat down. If you’d like I can prepare you something to eat? Or drink?” Kaspar's hand reached towards her slowly, allowing her time to escape the touch, and pleased to find she didn’t flinch away. He pressed his palm to the small of her back, guiding her with the lightest touch towards a seat. “If you were involved in what I fear you were, then you are going to need a lot more than a strong drink and hot meal to get through your week.” He shrugged his shoulders, grabbing front of his leather jacket prepared to shed it if she asked him to stay. “Stay or go?” His expression was open, wondering as he looked down to meet her gaze. It was ladies choice.

The sounds of his voice coupled his movements of coming closer in the wake of her steps and finally delivering the subtle pressure she felt at the small of her back. He was kind, appropriate given his chosen consuming career from what she could imagine. Dancing involved contact, sometimes continually. Modeling meant being dressed and undressed, repositioned and redirected to move as desired. All of it was as common to her as answering the phone for a secretary, which she could never imagine being. How mundane.
Indigo loved the energy of contact, the constantly changing views in which she took in the world around her. The metamorphosis of her plain overly tall lean frame and less than striking features into something that she even had to take a second look at when it would appear in a magazine. Marina always looked ready for the catwalk, for the professional lense to take notice and capture her. Her face was never without the makeup that made her worth paying to hold a product or wear a clothing label. Despite Indi’s caramel skin tone she was rarely in make-up unless she had to be. It suffered with unpleasant reactions and that was a curse that she inherited from her blonde haired, blue eyed mother.
“Marina enjoys herself.”
Indigo wasn’t going to paint Marina as an angel because she certainly was not. However, the fact that she likely had horns on the top of her beautiful blonde head and a pointed tail that went unseen to the masses protruding from her stunning and flawless *** was not her secret to divulge with Kaspar. Fair to stick with respectful general agreement without giving the man any reason to bolt or to needlessly cling to hopes of happily ever after if that was what he was searching for.
“Not sure what you are referring to, Kaspar.” She formed a smile that was intending to distract from the topic of what the lifeless pretzels looked like that she would be happy to forget. “You just got here. You ready to run like a rabbit?” She winked and made her body bend to settle into the black leather sofa that Phineas Knight likely spent more on than she ever paid in monthly rent. “Fix whatever you like and make it two.”

His brows went up, he was surprised and frankly impressed. She didn’t even flinch, she’d let him guide her, made vague agreements over her friend’s behaviour and now giving simply no reaction to his implications. Fascinating. Something in him decided he wanted to stay, she’d gotten his attention now. The man shrugged out of his jacket, draping it over a bar chair as he entered the kitchen. “You don’t know what I refer to? Funny, Indigo, I thought you might know EXACTLY. Perhaps i’ll have to show you, might spark your memory. Did you hit your head? Would you like some ice for it?” His voice was edged with concern, turning from her only to rummage in the cupboards.
The place was well stocked, he was impressed even if some of it wasn’t overly fresh, they didn’t seem like the groceries type. Maybe someone else had done the dirty work of chores for the girls, though he shouldn’t make assumptions about them from such a brief time of knowing them. It was in his nature though, quickly figure someone out and decide whether or not they are worth the time, worth the effort. He was searching, searching for what he didn’t know and he had to give people a chance to show him they were it.
“Are you light or dark, Indi? Vodka? Rum? Gin? There’s scotch, too, nice scotch.” He opened cupboards until he found a glass, chucking in a few cubes of ice and pouring himself a few fingers of the scotch. He’d sip it carefully, nurse it really to help him fit the human rocker role. “And food, did you want food?” He found a loaf of bread, some peanut butter and jam. People liked that here too, right? Was it only an American thing? Come to think of it, he didn’t know if she was Canadian at all. “Peanut butter and jam? Sorry… Jelly…” His nose wrinkled, making air quotes around the word Jelly. He leaned over the kitchen counter to watch her, eyes travelling up those long legs of hers. Definitely a pretty young thing, a model. “Or do you live on kale?”

Kaspar was proving to be a handful as she listened to him hook his interest into the very topic she was trying to distance herself from. She hit a lot of things in that rock and roll ride of twisted metal she took less than twenty four hours prior. The question is how did he know about it when even Marina just found out? The two were in the same set of sheets messing up their glorious heads together, right?
“I am light and dark.”
She made a verbal note of the obvious and delivered it with the tone of pride it deserved. She loved the mix of two amazing human beings who loved each other with a passion that she was pretty sure she would never duplicate in her own life. She didn’t want to. When her mother died it proved to be true that one can die of a broken heart. Her father followed a couple years later with the help of the heart attack that gripped him so tight he never recovered. Love killed slowly. It was on some shirt she saw once and took it as her motto because she saw it, lived it.
This was the reason she was one of those types that when they needed a hospital they would rather jump off a cliff than enter the doors. The smell of one did a number on her, caused insane panic attacks, the sounds of intermittent beeping haunted her and they would likely only see her in one if she was being hauled into the morgue beneath it.
“Hospitals…” She sighed and adjusted the bathrobe so her neck wasn’t feeling the tug of her body weight pulling when it was under her. “Not a fan. People survived long before they ever thought of them. I am into homeopathy and it gets me by.”
Indi was of course hungry but she had Marina on a run for whatever could be found open late at night. The bread in the man’s hand could be questionable. It had been several weeks when she was last by and even then she couldn’t recall bringing bread with her.
“Marina was picking up some take-out. We can share?” She offered up in case he was more hungry than she should be. He was tall, looked like he missed a few meals now that she watched him with more focus. “You are looking a little lean,Kaspar, whatchu talkin’ about kale for?”

He studied her expression, something in her had shifted as she responded, pondering some long lost something or other no doubt. Interesting, the seemed to be working through thoughts she’d rather avoid and it only made him more intrigued, more drawn to this woman. “Right, ok, no hospitals Miss Mix. I meant the drink, do you want something clear or… Nevermind, i’ll surprise you.” He abandoned the bread and instead reached for the vodka, two shots, two ice cubes and some of the cranberry juice, recently opened, from the fridge. Lime was too much to ask for, her supposed, but it would do just fine.
He found a brand new packet of chocolate biscuits, laughing at the discovery. “Excuse you?” He used the edge of the packet to push up his shirt, revealing a toned stomach, muscles over his abdomen creating a V shape, the finest trail of blonde hair nestled between starting at his navel. “I eat, missy, I eat a lot I just burn it off quickly. Do you know how hard it is keeping this much man full?” He huffed playfully, pouting out his lower lip as if he were dejected, letting his shirt fall. He had that slender, rocker thing about him sure but up close he was broader than you’d suspect and though there wasn’t any real bulk to him he was defined.
“I do like fresh food though, but i’m happy to eat biscuits if you are.” He tucked them under his arm, grabbing the two drinks so he could join her on the couch. Placing his own down, and letting the biscuit packet drop to the table, he reached to press her glass into her hands, curling her fingers around it to ensure she had a good grip before letting go. “Sip it, and please, have a sugary biscuit. It helps keep the shakes at bay.” He’d dealt with enough injured friends, those recovering from drug incidents or rough nights, to know that she was still going to need watching.
No hospitals, he reminded himself, peering at her from the corner of his eye.
Hel opened up the biscuit packet, taking one out and pushing it between her fingers before finally letting himself sink into the couch. His hand reached out blindly for his drink, grasping the glass and bringing it to his lips, just a tiny sip, before his head rolled back to rest on the couch, facing her. “Hopefully Marina comes back soon. Have you at least let someone look at those cuts and grazes? Make sure you dress them with something? You have swelling, too.” He pointed out, not to be cruel, he was not interested in having her die on him. Somehow he was here, and he was responsible. “You know…” He hesitated, but why should he tip toe further? “I watch the news, Indigo, I stay up nights as it suits my lifestyle, it can get awful lonely on nights at home. The news is always on.”

”I like surprises. Especially liquid ones with a sweet bite to them.”
As long as he avoided the tequila she would be good. The length of her legs stretched slowly to avoid creating any new cramps where she certainly didn’t need them. The back of her heels set gingerly on the massive contemporary coffee table beneath her feet. Her attention found the new aquaintance making his way expertly through the porcess of mixing drinks as if he had done it a thousand times and in the very kitchen he had only recently stepped into.
Tracking his hands closely she discovered as the shirt that lifted she was given a glimpse of proof that there was a lot more to the guy than his charm. She was no stranger to the tall lean look but surprisingly he did sport of set of abs and obliques that she was well aware took countless hours in the gym to keep toned. She had to do the work to be in the shape she was in and was reminded of it as he grabbed ahold of her weakness. Chocolate. It was a sin on her lips but she kept it to herself.
“So touche?” She settled back deeper into the furniture beneath her leaving the comment to linger on his six pack he carried around beneath his shirt.
While her fingers curled to accept the glass she glanced up at the face offering it and felt a odd that her eyes wouldn’t move when she wanted them to. With the way he towered over her she felt increasingly small and fragile. She wrote it off as her aching body sending her signals. While the chocolate found its way into her hands she finally was able to shift her eyes to the drink he prepared and bring it slowly to her lips. The run down of her obvious physical state and the needs that would go with it did not fall on deaf ears. The sweet fluid found her tongue and she swallowed slowly. The coolness sated the dryness that had filled her since she arrived to the house. Rolling her tongue slowly and making sure the drink was dispersed to all the spots that needed finally she swallowed again while pulling the glass back down.
“She should be back by now. She isn’t the best at finding her way around.” Indigo looked to the wall across the room in search of a clock. “The news.” She took a small bite of the chocolate source in her fingers and glanced to him curiously. “You into CNN or Headline News or more of a local watcher?”

He watched her sip at her drink, pleased to see that she not only drank it but seemed to enjoy it, he’d clearly done well. “Cool, yes? Liquid and a sweet bite, you said?” He gave her one of those playful winks, and followed it up with a heartbreaking smile which lit up his entire face. The man’s laugh wasn’t exactly hard on the ears either, ending it with a little sigh and sip of his drink. “Mm, good scotch, i’m guessing you didn’t decide on it sweet girl. News? Yes, oh I flick through, don’t care much about the weather though.” He gave her a moment to nibble at her biscuit, chocolate usually won people over, and decided he should acknowledge her comment about Marina.
“Did you want to call her? Perhaps she’s avoiding me.” He laughed again, now that would be something, a woman who actually wanted to avoid him after they’d spent the night with him. It would certainly be refreshing. “Much like you’re avoiding discussing what happened. The news, Indigo, you should watch it. The crash was all over it and the guns in the club. Either of those events may have gone unnoticed around here, this place is crazy sometimes, but one after the other… Anyway, we were all there that night sweet thing. All of us. Marina dragged me off early enough that I missed the drama, but when she bailed in a happy daze I had time to watch the news. Point is, it’s a weird coincidence.”
He reached to bring his fingertips gingerly over that bruise on her cheekbone, he let himself frown in concern for her. “Indigo…”
Kaspar drew away, taking in a sharp breath. She smelled amazing, this broken, bruised doll. There was fresh blood, close to the surface and part of him wanted to just take it. No, not this one, she had more use than a blood bag. He lifted that drink once more, taking a deeper sip. “You can talk to me, you know. I’ve seen a lot of ****, i’ve been caught up in a fair bit too. If you tell me it was a coincidence, i’ll let it go, but please make sure it’s the truth.” He was too damn curious for his own good, offering his assistance to her, sitting by her side and urging her to be honest with him. Why? What did it matter? He should wash his hands of it and get out before Marina gets back, not get involved in their mess.
Yet he couldn’t just walk away.
The hand that wasn’t cradling his drink curled towards her, resting palm up on the couch, close enough that one finger brushed her leg, barely a whisper of a touch, a hint of contact that could be considered an offer of more or perhaps an accident. Just a relaxed placement of limbs, nothing more to read into it, unless she was in the habit of reading more into it. One of his tests, he wanted to know more, had to know more. There was some thought he was building towards, something about her just out of reach, like if he pushed his tongue to the roof of his mouth he could taste it. He told himself to stand up now, to grab that jacket and leave. Instead his finger twitched again, nerves reacting to some thought or other, walking him further into dangerous territory. “I’m here to help, if you want me. Ok?”

The scent of his drink filled the air between them as soon as he asked for confirmation on cool sweet bites. His voice was rich with sound that had her listening with increasing interest as if she was able to be drawn in by it. He winked and the prickle of heat surfaced across each of her cheekbones and spread to the firm curl of her ears. The tip of curl tongue slipped out between her lips and moistened the full portions of flesh slowly with purpose.
“I can’t call her.” Exotic blue orbs rolled to the counter where her cell phone sat. “She was carrying my phone last night because hers is currently communing with two cups worth of Minute Rice in a ziplock bag. My girl has shitty luck with the places she chooses to take her selfies for instagram. Mr. Bubbles failed her and it's currently showing no hope of making a comeback.”
Another bite of chocolate found her lips. If Marina was avoiding him she was a fool. He was a fool for thinking she was but that stayed quiet as well. Once the nibble in her mouth found its way down her throat she felt the brush of his hand on her face. He had said what he saw on the news but she nearly lost track of what he was revealing. His voice was like a soft haze to her brain coupled with the scent of his words filling the air between him. He could be speaking Greek and she probably would have never known. Her name released in the air with that smooth sound of his voice shook her hard and brought her back around. It wasn’t like he would have a chance of dragging her to the police station if she told him. She already made up her mind that she was not going anywhere.
“I was in the wreck but I don’t have any answers. I don’t know who was doing the shooting as far as names go. I don’t know the one that was shot behind me. I was just trying to get out and get some fresh air when it started. Before I could get out I was yanked into a car and with my luck it was the ones responsible. At least that is what I am guessing since they started shooting each other in the car.” She looked at him, eyes locked on his while the rim of the glass found her lips. Her hand didn’t move as her lips pulled away. “I woke up in a ditch and there was nothing there to save, not that I would really put effort in it. Karma is a ***** and they found out.” Finally the glass went to her lap and was cradled in her joined palms. “If it wasn’t for Adley coming by and stopping I am not so sure I would be in the shape I am lucky to be in. And your concern is equally appreciated. How lucky can a girl get in twenty-four hours, hmmm?”

Ah, she’d had Indigo’s phone, hers missing and that was why Marina had rushed out screaming about her friend being hurt. Surely she’d have called her if she could, right? The girl would’ve rushed off stupidly into the night and probably gotten herself her killed if Indigo had in fact called. Kaspar had decided Marina was exactly what he’d first thought, but Indigo, she was something else. Far more relaxed, not constantly preening or trying to fix her hair. She seemed to be more free because of it, he had to respect that. Unfortunately it would be tricky to spend time with her, and yet dismiss Marina into the crowd. Shame, really.
Kaspar could do without the headache, maybe it was for the best.
He had been trying to calm her, to soothe and bring her to a place where she might trust him enough to speak the truth but this? The woman had leaned up towards the sound of his voice, her eyes seemed hazy as she focused on him, that pink tongue darting out to lick at lips which felt too dry for the man sitting across from her. Damn, damn, damn. Once again he was forced to withdraw, breaking that light contact, curling his hand up into a fist and resting it atop his knee. It seemed to do the trick, she came back to herself, spoke up.
Time for the admission, the one he’d been after all along.
She had been in the club of course, and she had caught the worst of the action. A man had been shot, dead, falling against her back. He couldn’t imagine how horrifying it would have been for her, she was certainly shaken by it. Then taken by strangers, bundled into a car where the idiots proceeded to shoot at each other and cause a fatal wreck that ended the stupidity once and for all. His head was shaking before she’d finished, a snarl curling his lip. Fools, he had no patience for them and felt no sadness over their deaths. A sentiment she quickly echoed, one that had his expression lightening so he no longer looked quite like the avenging fallen angel, more like a brooding model.
“Adley?”
He was startled from his own thoughts, looking at her once more. “Who is this Adley? A friend of yours? Did they come looking for you?” Kaspar wasn’t sure he knew the name, it was a unique one and he’d thought he’d remember it. Then again he lived in a town where Indigo’s and Marina’s swanned about, Lyonel’s were handsome killers and people gave their kids names like Nixie, or River. Maybe it would just blend in with the rest, on second thought. “I’m sorry you went through all of that, I wish we’d stayed now, then again your Marina could have been hurt too. What can I do to help you, Indigo?” His hand grasped one of hers, drawing it up to meet his lips. "You know there are doctors who don't belong to hospitals? I could at least help you wrap a bandage if you won't even consider it."
Blood, damn, Kaspar knew he'd regret the offer if she agreed.

Adley. How did could one wrap a presence like the man connected to the name into words? She felt a slight smile form on her lips while the tingle of heat found her cheeks. The air seemed all that much cooler now that she was under Kaspar’s eyes while he waited for an answer. Her ache was instantly soothed when her indigo hues found his and stayed where they were.
“He came out of the darkness in his golden carriage of rescue.” She felt the slight twitch of her swollen lip while going with the glorious attempt to describe how great Adley had been to her. “Okay, so he was driving a Jeep but he was dashing none the less. Especially when he slipped on the yellow latex dish gloves.” The drink in her hand found it’s way back between her lips long enough for the sweet concoction to come to her tongue. Once she swallowed she looked to Kaspar curiously as the movement of her right leg dropping down to the floor sent a needle sharp stabbing to nerves that wanted to remind it was not as wonderful as she was making it out to be.“The more I explain it the less it all seems believable except for the fact my *** feels like it was stampeded. But I am here and thanks to a dark knight driving a midnight run and a rock star who has the manners of a saint I am in one piece to talk about it, right? Makes me wonder with the two of you around how many angels are left in heaven.”
Indigo set the glass down and allowed the other leg to fall so that the sole of her foot made contact with the carpet beneath. Wherever Marina was for the moment Indigo was hoping it would take her a little longer to return. Not that she had designs on Kaspar that were going to intrude on anything Marina already had going on. In truth she was feeling like perhaps Kaspar’s company was more productive than the eternal party girl’s who likely took a predictable detour to the closest club instead of what was asked of her. Thankfully she wasn’t bleeding to death.
“You have done more than you know.”
Her lips pressed together in thought. Kaspar was like a star that was glowing beside her. He was beautiful, ready to do the right thing for someone he barely knew. A rising Prince Charming perhaps who was gallant and vivid all just within reach. A calm moved through her and a sense of reluctance surfaced warning her that getting too close could mean the spell over her would be broken and all of the reality would set in once more. Indigo was not one to hold back though. She never had and never will.
With her free hand she found his cheek and lifted just enough to brush her lips at the hard frame of his jaw. It was a search for confirmation that he was real, that he was there. Innocent, tender the contact was and it reminded her it was still cool outside but getting warmer where she was.
“Stay?” The invitation was given. He was worth the chance of being shot down of sharing some time and space. “Have another drink and talk to me.”
