Ric's obnoxious and demanding attitude only served to further infuriate her, her blue eyes narrowed onto his back as he left the room. If she had the power behind her to do it, she would attacked him then and there. He was not superior to her simply because he had been a part of their lifestyle longer, and that did not give him the right to get up a high horse and parade around. But, apparently, in his mind, he did. With all her might, Ali wanted to take a metal baseball bat and swing it with all the force she could manage to knock him off. He could use a good dose of reality, apparently.
Before Dhara could follow after him, Aliyah grabbed onto her flatmate's wrist. "Stay here with me? I decided I don't trust him enough to be around you." she explained, dropping the woman's arm from her grasp before moving around her room in a huff. "How dare he..." she mumbled to herself, resisting a sudden urge to knock over the various objects she had assembled. It wasn't the fact that he had broken in that had her on edge. It was more the fact that he had invaded her privacy.
Her movements around the room were quick and efficient, placing her in front of a set of plastic drawers. Lifting up the top lid, she pulled her brush from within and turned to face her roommate. "Let's go so we can get him out of this place before something really bad happens..." she sighed, moving out of the room to the living room. As expected, Ric hadn't gone far. Just the sight of him was enough to make her blood boil all over again, her lips pulling back into a predatory snarl.
"Talk, Ric. Now. What do you need my brush for?" she asked, crossing her arms over her chest, the brush in hand. It would not leave her grasp until she knew what was going on...and why he felt he couldn't just ask. Sure, they had ended their last meeting on bad terms, but that did not mean she couldn't be rational enough to listen to him. Family or not, she wasn't a raging *****. He seemed to think otherwise, since apparently all this was necessary.

She had started to follow Ric when her wrist was caught. She came to a halt and looked up at Ali, listening to her words, she let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. Thank god Ali wasn't going to make her go out there with him. She watched the woman move around her room and rant. She felt a little like a third wheel. Perhaps she should be the one to leave. Let these two hash it out in private. She was just about to open her mouth to say something to that effect when Ali found her brush.
They moved in to the living room, Ali was first, Dhara trailing behind her. She moved out from behind the woman, watching Ric. He looked large and imposing in their living room. Perhaps that was because they didn't have people over. The two of them lived pretty insular lives. When she wasn't here with Ali, she was with Calen or at work. Home was their sanctuary. This was the place they hid themselves away from the world and the humans and vampires in it. The more she thought about it, the more annoyed she was becoming over the fact that this man had violated that sanctuary. She suddenly didn't care if they were related, he had no right to come sneaking in here like he owned the place.
Her nose crinkled as she moved to curl up in the green recliner. Normally she sat on the couch, but that would put her closer to Ric than she wanted to be. And besides, Ali didn't seem inclined to sit in her favorite chair. She tucked her legs beneath her, bare toes vanishing under her skirt. Hands were folded neatly in her lap and she snuggled in to the corner of the chair as if she would become one with the fabric. She knew better than to voice her opinion when she was the only human in the room. Her only hope was that they would forget about her sitting there. They could hash out their problems and he could leave the two of them alone. But she was also intensely curious. Why in the world did he want Ali's hairbrush?

The human hadn't followed me like I anticipated. That was probably for the better. Just the sight of her made my fingers and hands heavy. Itchy even. Like I needed to do something with them when she was in my vicinity. While I'm in the living room alone, I do a slow turn and observe my surroundings. Take in what Ali spends her money on and surrounds herself with. I don't want her stuff, I just want to know more about Ali and what, if anything we share in common.
Nothing.
She has more stuff than me. By a million fold. I don't own a lot of possessions. It's not my thing. Mostly because it makes it easy for me to relocate if I need to in a hurry and the less a person owns, the less evidence of their existence can be traced back to them. Or in this case, me.
She comes in after me, demanding what I need her brush for. I haven't said, but wouldn't it be obvious? "I can't find mine. So I thought I would come up here and borrow yours. I heard it gave decent volume." I look at her, my face not revealing that this was my attempt at humor, as weak and as horrible as it was.
"I need it because it has your DNA on it. In your hair follicles. To run tests." I shouldn't have to spell it out for her. "Can I have it? I've got a guy waiting." I hold out my hand towards her, ignoring the human that was hiding behind her. If I don't see it, it doesn't exist for now.

Aliyah deadpanned. She simply stared at the male standing in their living room, fairly certain he had attempted to be funny. In the one instance they had met, he hardly seemed the type to make jokes. In fact, he came across as the exact opposite. There were no words coming to mind as a comeback, her mind a blank slate. Somehow, he had managed to deplete her IQ. She didn't even know that was possible. Not to mention, his hair was too long and she would never let him use her brush. Ew.
Rather than laugh or show any signs that she had heard him, she waited until he continued to explain his real reason for arriving. Once he let it out, she frowned. Her head canted to the side, blonde hair partially covering her face. "You are that concerned with our possible relation that you needed to break in..?" she asked, voice soft. As much as she tried not to allow it, his words had hurt. The idea of being related to her was somehow one he needed proof of, rather than just accepting it.
Still, she did not turn over the brush, choosing instead to consider his reasoning. If he was going to insist on finding the truth about their genetic connection, he would find a way to do it, even without her brush. There was no doubt. She had already had a conversation with Nate, and the boy was too excited for a new cousin. But, he was a good kid, that much was obvious.
"You know what, Ric...okay. You will get your DNA..." she finally replied, a slow smirk forming on her lips. "I'll hold on to the brush, but you can lead the way to this guy you have waiting. I look forward to our bonding time, cuz."
Turning her head down to get a good look at Dhara, she sighed. "Looks like your coffee date is gonna run a little short. I'm sorry. And I promise I will explain everything when I get home?" she offered, leaning down to give the woman a tight hug.

She listened to Ali and Ric go back and forth, discussing DNA samples and being related. She followed the conversation intently, surprised when Ali gave in to his demands. Seriously, she was going to trust some crazy nut job who'd broken in to their apartment? The man had violated their sanctuary, their quiet little bubble. A secret, hidden paradise where they could co-exist with out the rules of vampire and human society. She didn't like him, this Ric. She didn't care if he was Ali's cousin. She would never like him. He had intruded on their privacy and she found she actually hated him.
When Ali said she was going to go with him, Dhara couldn't hide the worry that filled her eyes. She thought her friend was crazy. And she feared she wouldn't see her friend again. Leaning up in the chair, she returned the hug tightly, there was so much she wanted to say, but she knew the other vampire would hear her, so she tried to convey her worry through a tight hug. "Just be careful, okay?" She didn't bother trying to speak quietly, it wouldn't matter if she did.
Reluctantly she released her friend and her eyes moved to a clock on the wall, estimating the time before sunrise. She knew Ali had enough time to get home before the sun came up. But the question was, would she come home? More importantly, would she be allowed to come home? She shoved that thought away. Ali would come home. She had to. Dhara couldn't stand the thought of living alone again. Not since Ali came in to her apartment and her life. The woman was the best friend Dhara had ever had, and the evenings events filled her with worry.

"You want to come with?" I just stared at Aliyah before giving her a short, simple shrug of my shoulders. There really were no reasons I could give her to dispute her request. At the most she would find out we are cousins. The least, we aren't and everyone could go back to their lives.
When she says she'll explain everything to the human later, I return my attention to the human. To me, this is not her business. She might live with Aliyah, but that doesn't give her the right to know me or my life. I clench my fist; the left at my side. Once, twice, three times and finally a fourth before I return my attention to Aliyah. "I think it's pretty self-explanatory. I came here for DNA, as she heard. I have it, you're coming with. Seems like a, open and shut thing. I'm sure she has more than two brain cells in her head to follow so far."
I move past Aliyah, my dark eyes still on the human. I'm sure she has a name, but for now, it's just 'the human.' This bonding time Aliyah speaks of will allow me the time required to tell her that her way of living isn't conducive for the vampire side of things. "Later, human." I size her up one more time for details so that if we meet again, I know who she is and the threat she poses to my potential human. "I'll see you outside." I say before heading down the hall and out to the lobby on Aliyah's floor. While I do this, I call Daegal to me and tell him to keep an eye on the human for the rest of the night.

For the second time, Ric's bad attitude filled the air of the apartment. It killed any sense of a good mood that they might have had, if only he could have kept his mouth shut. Aliyah whipped her head around to glare at him over her shoulder. It took a large amount of willpower not to snap at back at him, but if she was going to be going with him tonight, there was no way she was going to do so in the middle of a fight.
"She is going to learn the whole story, because it is my story to tell. In part," she retorted, shaking her head at him for being so rude. "As much as you may like your privacy, you aren't the only one involved here." She didn't know if the reminder would do any good, because chances were slim that he wouldn't care. In his mind, it was clear that this was his business and no one else's. It was also clear that he needed to have a serious discussion about the concept of manners.
With a small frown over at Dhara, she began to take steps back toward the door as Ric left. "I promise I will be back. Don't wait up, though, okay?" she whispered, placing a hand on the doorknob. Ali had no idea what to expect from this adventure. Not only did she not know this 'man' Ric had waiting, but she had little reason to trust Ric, himself. He had patched her up once, and that was fine...but what else did he have to his credit?
The blonde offered Dhara a small smile, then shut the door behind her as she ran off after Ric. As soon as she reached his side, she tucked the brush into his hand. "Let's get this over with..."

I thought about what Aliyah said as I waited for the elevator and then dismissed it. I wasn't going to worry about what she did or didn't tell the human. Daegal would let me know anyways. I wasn't one to stew over things or worry about anything. I can't control what people say or do. I can however, do something once they say or do something I don't like or appreciate. It would be unfortunate for Aliyah to find this out the hard way, but it was what it was.
"Before we go meet my-acquaintance," I start out, eyes on Aliyah as she puts her hairbrush in my hand. "We have to make a stop. By Nathan's place." I wasn't sure what to call Doc. He wasn't a friend, I don't really have many of those. Or any. Outside of Skylar. I could have said faction mate, but I don't want to tell Doc's business to anyone. It's not my place and not my business who does or doesn't know what he gets up to in his spare time.
"I'm sure he'll be over the moon about the surprise visit." I say as the elevator door opens and I step in. "Since we're doing this together, you're going to have to distract Nathan while I snatch his hair brush." I wasn't giving Aliyah the option to get Nathan's hairbrush. I didn't want her in his life or getting to know him if, by chance we weren't related. "I hope you have good people skills." I say as I push the 'G' button and pocket the hairbrush in my coat for safe keeping.

Her gaze was narrowed on Ric as they waited for the elevator, her eyebrows raising up at the mention of Nathan. Should it turn out that they were family, he was the only one she liked, and that was saying something. The boy was awkward and nerdy, but he was kind and extremely open-minded to the idea of a cousin. That immediately set him about from the male beside her, who chose to go out of his way to be an asshole. If he had a problem, it would be so much easier on both of them if he just spit it out, but Ali didn't see that happening in the near future.
His demands would have fallen on deaf ears had she not been so preoccupied with the mention of the young man at the university, but she could handle talking to the boy again. "Oh, I have already spoken with Nathan, I am sure he will have no problem talking to me again," she sneered, crossing her arms over her chest in annoyance. She remained quiet for a moment, and then suddenly turned him with a frown. "Listen, I understand that I mean little to you, and really...I am okay with that," she began, waiting for the elevator doors to open and signal their destination on the ground floor. "But, I am not okay with you treating me like a dog. I don't take orders. Let's make that clear."
With that out of the way, the doors swung open and she marched out. She anxiously ran through the lobby like always, wincing at the overpowering noise of the lobby. Once she was safely outside, she stopped and paced the sidewalk, waiting for him to appear at her side. She would let him lead the way to the university, and let him assume he had some form of control of the situation. Even if he didn't. Not anymore. This included them both, and she would see to it that they both had a say.

--The following transcript was a live chat roleplay--
Roderic: I enjoyed delving in to Aliyah's personality before we even left the flats. I didn't say much on the way to Nathan's, only because, if we weren't related, then I didn't see the need to waste my time with being nice. I wouldn't be nice to any other stranger on any other given day. Aliyah was no exception to the rule. "So, you stealing or creating a diversion? Kind of need to know the angle I'm going for." I say as we get outside Nathan's place, my hand a few inches from the door.
Aliyah: Aliyah glared daggers into Ric's back most of the way to the building, for whatever reason, he was insistent on being an asshole. She seethed in silence for most of the way, hoping that Nate's optimistic attitude would lighten the mood. For everyone. "I think I might be better stealing. I'm not his dear darling brother, after all," she snapped, nodding toward the door. She wanted this over with.
Nate: Nate sat in the back room of his dorm, headphones on, and slowly working on an assignment due at the end of next week. He was current with all of his other homework and wanted a head start. There were other reasons that he had thrown himself in to his work but he did his best not to dwell on them. As long as he was focused on the paper, he wasn't bothered by any of the other stuff going on in this weird town.
