I'm actually kind of confused/meant to ask this earlier. This is a January storm in Canada - we call those blizzards. I thought this was going to be clarified once the teams were announced, but the clarification actually makes it sounds more like a summer storm and less like a blizzard.
And yet Crownet says...
Current weather is: Cloudy, -8 C
Well below freezing.
Obviously not everyone is from a cold climate, so wouldn't automatically know this, we don't get flooding, we get massive snowfall, so there would be snow everywhere. If by some freak chance there was rain, the main issue would be that this rain would then freeze within minutes/hours. Trees collapse under the weight of snow/ice. Power lines also ice over and snap due to excess ice accumulation. Tiny garages collapse under the weight of the snow, roads become a slippery, impassable mess, snowplows end up in ditches, etc. etc.
I guess my question is how does this work/fit in with the world that's been created?

I think the earthquake might make the rivers go out of the banks along them I know in Missouri in the 1800's the Mississippi ran backwards and flooded land that it used to run around. It also changed the way the river ran.

It could also be possible that the snow causes the flooding. We had a bit of floodibg after snow melted, here.

which would make sense if it was above freezing, but it's all confusing

Yeah, that typically happens in April/May in this area of Canada.

so maybe we got a blizzard mixed with freezing rain mixed with other winter weather we could possibly get?

I posted this in another thread, but figured it might be helpful for other people who may not be familiar with the suck of winter.
Criteria for a winter storm warning:
When severe and potentially dangerous winter weather conditions are expected, including:
- A major snowfall (25 cm or more within a 24 hour period); and
- A significant snowfall (snowfall warning criteria amounts) combined with other cold weather precipitation types such as: freezing rain, strong winds, blowing snow and/or extreme cold.
Blizzard conditions may be part of an intense winter storm, in which case a blizzard warning is issued instead of a winter storm warning.
From:
https://ec.gc.ca/meteo-weather/default. ... interStorm - if you want the criteria for other severe weather types.

I have to agree with Grace mun, it was the earthquake that causes the flooding:
Nor do they realise that on the same day there's going to be a massive earthquake in the Harper Rock area, measuring roughly 7.0 on the Richter scale. The culmination of these things will cause serious damage to many buildings, tear up trees, flood many riverside areas, and cause power outages and deaths.
Yes the temperatures are below freezing.. but breaches along the river will cause flooding.. then immediate freezing.. so emergency vehicles.. will have no traction on roads covered with a sheet of ice..

I'm not disagreeing with that, I'm just a little confuzzled considering that the Lounge (place where Nix's group is supposed to be avoiding floods at) is not exactly close to the river.
