Not mistaken, but also not true. All of the lore that backed up this statement was thrown out the window by Disney.
That's true. Urgh.
The OT was incredibly straight forward. Jedi vs. Sith/ Good vs. Evil. If we are being honest with ourselves the movies werent thought provoking lessons in nuance. The OT was pretty much straight action wrapped around an amazing story, something which is pretty much right down Abrams ally.
It was good VS evil, that's true, but the storytelling was a class above what Abrams is capable of. He'll write it incredibly childishly, whereas the original trilogy was clever and imaginative, even if it was simple. JJ will create a trilogy which has far more in common with Episodes 1-3. Terrible dialog, for one.
Bane is by far my favorite SW character, and I agree Him or Traya would make for excellent movies, but not for continuing the saga. (Left Revan out because I truly cant stand him.) Those stories dont really show us what happens with the Empire. (IE are the rebels going to be able to seize control? Will the galaxy be thrown into something similar to the "Thrawn Era" from the EU?) Those questions need to be answered to setup the climate for the additional movies Disney plans releasing. (Because so far the plan is to do the same with the SW Universe as is being done with the Marevel one.)
Oh I wasn't saying they should base a move on one of those stories, I was just saying to take inspiration from what made those stories great.

You have a point, but I don't necessarily see it is a bad thing. At least not for the main saga. Abrams may not have the story telling chops you are looking for, but he does know how to piece together an action series that people enjoy watching. With Disney making all of the other SW EU effectively fiction/legend in the universe we need something that advances the story that will hook in a new generation and the many pissed off existing fans. This way the interest and funding will still be there for the more character focused movies planned to be released alongside the new trilogy.

I fangirled so hard seeing Han Solo and Chewie at the end. Like, oh my gods, you do not even know. And while I was in a library, most unfortunately. It popped up as an ad on my playlist and scared the living daylights out of me.

Just wanted to point out, that we know that BB-8 is an actual robot.
