Yea that's where I am. And only transplants call them fireflies.
In doing this.. I have noticed that over 30's more often call them lightning bugs, and under 30's call them fireflies. So it could be a generational thing too?

Maybe... I think it's more about point of origin? Dad was Canadian, he said Lightning Bug. Mum was from the UK and said Firefly or Glowworm. (I'm almost 50)

I just read that they recommend letting the logs and leaf litter pile up.. No raking this year! Save the Lightening bugs!

We always called em lightening bugs. And soda/pop (which I've only started saying since I moved to the North) is Coke where I come from. Orange Coke, Regular Coke ect.

I grew up calling them lightning bugs and was totally evil as a child..like Madison said, used to smear them to make other things glow. other thing, always been soda.

Lightning bugs for me, my cousin calls them fireflies - he and I are about six years apart and in our twenties.
As for the pop/soda thing, I call it both. Friends up North say soda more often than those in the South, though.
