There's also a difference between finishing the game (to the point where you can call it Gold/Release phase) and making additional updates to the game once it's finished.

I would never dream of being able to make substantial amounts of money that I could live on, on a game that's not complete.
I know. But Path's income has dropped significantly over the past year. We're still planning on getting it past beta, though, of course. Still, as I work on Path 6 days a week, 6-9 hours a day, I have to consider things like this now OR drop down the amount of hours I work on it.

"Can't be bothered" is quite strong, considering I work full time on Path. Your post was actually quite rude.

Path won't be closing down, and even if I have to decrease my hours, we'll still devote enough time to it to make sure it gets updates and the like. My post was merely to show people the realities of trying to program something as extensive as this and keep it going, baring in mind that to do it for free would be impossible. It's less karma-based VS less updates, so right now we choose to do more updates if we can.

ETA: As for the "moot point" debate, why would having apartments all over the city be that much more of an advantage compared to 50 in the same tower? I'd say 50 in the same tower would have some pretty distinct advantages. If there are any tactical advantages to having apartments more scattered around, they are negligible and circumstantial. Yes, full lairs are a big advantage, but those will be available for in game cash at some point anyway. Besides which, lairs can protect people who didn't pay for them, if the owner decides to let your character in.

The places that are able to be bought for IGC aren't all over the city and don't give you the sort of advantage I'm talking about. Having 50 apartments in one block is a bit pointless. You have to have karma to be able to get places in certain areas, and the karma is sold at such inflated prices, that you can't get that much of it that easily.
Truth. Especially that last part.

I really wonder at people's unwillingness to pay for anything with Karma, as if injecting the odd dollar or two into a game you enjoy EVERY DAY is such a hardship.

It's not like anyone is asking for huge investment but what amounts to potentially $30 in a year. To buy one karma property, every now and then outside of just IGC.

I don't see a problem with injecting a bit of karma once in a while. I get enough enjoyment out of the game that it feels like supporting the infrastructure that gives me that enjoyment. You make it seem like a money racket, when that seems far from the case.

As I said - it makes it seem/sound that way. I didn't say that was the case, just that that's how your words come across when read.

Yeah, anyway. I'm holding off any further karma property purchases for when you open up that new territory you hinted at a few months ago. Pi has this city pretty much tied up and she's satisfied with her little slice of Harper Rock.

Oh except for the Shadow Realm, she might go there since she has the power to pop in and out of it. But that would depend largely on what Wendigo's player brought up.

Having many properties in different places is HUGE advantage. You save a lot of energy everyday if the properties are strategically placed and linked by fadeportals. So even people that don't fight much profit from it in a HUGE way.

I am not interested in buying property atm. Next karma I buy would most likely go into improving the existing places.

But what I'd really really love and instantly buy would be homebound scrolls for karma. Two of my characters have ritualist wives. The other two don't and are without these wonderful scrolls. Being a human and not having one of those scrolls really sucks, because in raids you are essentially stuck, can't cele out either.

The statement has been made on a number of occasions that the things that are available for karma will eventually be available for IGC (at least most of them). However, the way this thread is going... I wonder if that's not a false hope. If that's going to be the case, fine... but maybe we should look at other add-ons that wouldn't provide such a strategic advantage.

I've always really resented these types of statements, and I continue to take insult to it. So much so, in fact, that I probably can't say anything further on the matter that won't violate several forum policies.

This, basically. How many apartments and such can you buy and serve a real purpose? Businesses are capped now at 3, so why would I buy a 4th or 5th shop? I think there will be a boom rush if and when new areas begin to emerge, but right now all it is is buying more of the same thing without much, if any, perks to make it a addition to what some already have in place. Hagen's player mentioned items and features that could be of much more use to the players currently and that might be a better avenue to explore now. Path is simply hitting a low because, frankly, most of us have all the 'toys' that can be gotten right now. Once this moves past Beta there will be a rush as new players begin to tag into things we have already indulged in and we the current masses will be chasing the the more advanced options that will come available. So if it were me, perhaps I would focus on things to make what is already currently in place expand in their values and purposes if the income of cash is becoming an issue.

Just threw out one way portals, then boomerang back with home tome :) It's great stuff.

Sadly, I did have to get Pi ritual levels, to make tomes in order for it to work as I intended.
