I think the idea was to have it be as broad as could be so that people could tailor it to the specific character.

The only ones that fit Kira are Dance, Musical, and Occult. Maybe some medical and Criminal. <.<

Mike - I have no idea. He's like robotic engineer with some science. So far I have Chemistry, Physics for him. Think Mathematics would be good? I don't know. >.<

I'm really not focusing on which stats are better effective in results for a bonus and more trying to round out the numbers with what I feel would paint an accurate depiction of my character's background.

(I still have 6 free points left and not a clue where to put them 8-X )

I tried to get Pi one star in nearly everything, but then I ran out of karma ... lol.

Could we have the appropriate 'attribute' listed with the proficiency so we can see 'which' attribute is paired with which proficiency. That would be convenient. Rather than attempt to get higher points in something you think would be in line with your character only to find out characters with rubbish charisma don't have a **** show in etiquettes. :(

Yes.

I did Doc's based on his human background, education and work experience and age. Then there is his extracurricular activities so he got some criminal too

So I gave him 4 stars in medical; but as young as most of the characters are, I cant see that many of them should have maxed out proficiencies at this point in time.

And for that that don't know where they fit at the moment.. some proficiencies come from time and practice. Pick one... start rping the studying.. and research / practice in it. As the game progresses I can completely see those characters progressing and gaining that knowledge and I think its cool.

First, I think the scale is too compressed. 3-stars is basically a Ph.D. in a field, and it's only halfway up the scale? I know a grand total of four people who have more than one Ph.D... it's hard for me to envision characters who aren't hundreds of years old with multiple skills above 3. And most humans (and recently turned vampires) would have, like, one skill at 3 max by that scale... and probably none at four. Heck, 2 is a "University Degree". Only 41.5% of Americans have graduated from college, which means we're talking about more than half of characters with, at most, one star (yes, granted, there may be other ways to get training). Less than 5% have a Doctorate or comparable Professional Degree.

Furthermore, not all of these skills really lend themselves to comparisons with Degrees? What is a Ph.D. equivalent in Cooking anyway? Ph.D. in Hunting? Do they teach Hunting at University? Methinks maybe only at Hogwarts.

So, I suppose my questions come down to: can we either eliminate the degree comparison, or have some other metric by which to assess skill (e.g., years of professional training, years of experience, et cetera?)

That is why I said time and practice. I know some PHd's that for all their book learning, have no common sense what so ever. But there are people that have no education aka Masters or Phd, and can run rings around the 'learned' set.

My boss is always flaunting his masters from cornel but the man's memory is ****; has no social skills what-so-ever; and states 'facts' that he makes up, that he just expects ppl to believe him cause he has a ******* masters for Cornel.

But we have a 23 year old facilitator that by her merely standing up in a meeting, she commands attention. She has a nature leadership aura about her, and she knows how to charm a crowd. No education background at all.

A character like her.. at 23 I would see 3 stars in corporate etiquette.. A character like my boss .. I would struggle to give him 1 star.

Can someone explain why Streets and Criminal proficiency are Charisma based? I can be a total doucher and be a great criminal or know how **** goes down on the streets.

I was going to up those to 3 for Mad b/c I've written her from the start as a former gang member who majority of her income comes from criminal activities for over a decade of her history. Yet, she's purposefully as charismatic (or less than) a rattlesnake that's been stepped on. I'm disappointed that I need to up a stat that doesn't fit my character for a proficiency or two that I don't feel most heavily relies on that particular stat.

Etiquettes are a mixture of experience and general aptitude. Also, charisma doesn't necessarily mean that somebody is charming; it could just mean that your character is able to socialise, manipulate, influence people etc. in any number of different or specific social situations. If she's able to do that with criminals or general urban type people, then there's no reason her charisma shouldn't be high to reflect that.

But I do think it's important for me to point out that 3 stars is expert. Most characters won't even need to go as high as 4 stars. I believe that 4 or 5 stars will only come to play in quest settings in the most extreme of circumstances, or during PVP missions, when one character's proficiency is pit against another's for example. In most situations, 3 stars would be enough to kick ***.

It's all explained on the update post. Intelligence for academic, charisma for etiquette, and skill for skills. The stat amount needed is 3 + (stars * 5). So to get 3 stars you need 18+ of the key stat.
