Recently, I engaged this particular character in the tutorial. It was certainly interesting. And yes, I did see that it was a task to complete being to level the character. Well, my character is human. What if I don't want to level that character? What if I just want to let him walk around, collecting wrist watches and cigarettes and be a bum all day and not let him acknowledge that he lives in a Vampire ridden city with sewers and Zombies?

You can do precisely that if you choose. You're still active on the grid, your character can still be seen (by those who have his human identity) and the world is fine and dandy. You don't have to level your character. They're not telling you how to play your character on the grid, just saying that he must be moved on the grid.

Thank you!

Every fight Doc and Dominique have had in rp was done on the grid. So that if someone looked at Doc or Dominique, they would see the wounds.

It really does make for more fun rp. Doc was attacking Dominique in her Bombed infested apartment.. I was expecting him to go in.. Kick her *** and leave.. But OMG.. He was getting beat to hell by her bombs.. It was great!! Then she got him in the head with like -10 intel wound.. XD. So for a week - Doc was dumbed down..

That happened about nine months ago.. I still recall it vividly.. It was the mot awesome fight ever!

Truly was epic and far more fun to be wearing the wounds as evidence your charrie cashed the check their *** was writing in rp. Dominique wrote several and Doc always is good as well as the player behind the charrie to call out when payment is due and more than a fair sport at returning the same in return.

I thought with a roleplay heavy character, you could use the roleplay points you earn on the forum to level up your character if you wanted, it might just be slower. Was that wrong? I'm asking because I thought that was an option so those who don't like/don't want to play on the grid can still grow their character. :|

That's kind of my bad.

Elijah plays with Zelda a lot, but lately Zelda has kind of been overshadowed by Jesse.

And Elijah would have more RPP to exchange, if he could have posted things that we have done. But which he can't. Because there's no 18+ board anymore.

Sarcasm is generally rude, and rudeness is against the rules.
I'd like to say that I would watch my tone of my words, but that is hard to do in text.

I think that if you offer a role-play option and not a gaming option, then it should not be linked to grid play. So, in essence, you are telling me that I will need to log into the grid and move my character around just to participate in the roleplaying of the forums.

Is that correct?
Yes. You need to be visible on the grid (not in vacay mode), because roleplaying with a character that you have no option to attack if they piss you off (other than make-believe fighting through roleplay) isn't how the game works. There needs to be in-game consequences (and by extension roleplay consequences) to a character's actions. Path is built around this fundamental principle.
I can see your logic in this. I appreciate your input on the overall view of the world at hand for all characters within this city that has been quite interestingly created. I see that Humans are a different difficulty level that are, per prior statements, treated differently than Vampires. But let it be known, that when this happened, Elijah Cole was not in this ... Vacay Mode. He was simply not moved around on the grid because I did not realize that was necessary (which I have stated prior).

Mooncalf wrote:
This character was not a Vampire. He is a human. There is no sire to factor into this equation. I never bothered to do much grid play, because quite frankly - I didn't think I had to. So, perhaps there should be a warning, a label, an -explicit- clarification on the screen that one has to choose game versus role playing.

Or... Did I miss that somewhere too?
I know he's a human. I was speaking generally about re-created deleted characters (characters deleted by yourself or due to inactivity). Humans don't have to worry about finding the same sire, obviously.

You do not have to play on the grid, exactly. You just need to be active on the grid, so merely logging into the grid once every few days will enable you to continue roleplaying. We haven't said that anywhere yet because it's not yet something we'd programmed. The only consequence right at this moment of not logging into the grid is that inactive characters get deleted after 3 months.

I understand and respect that you disagree with some or all of this, but this is how Path works.

Yes, I do have to play on the grid - exactly. And that is my point. That is the point that you've tried to make here. You want grid play, even though you have a Role Playing option under your initial set up for any character upon registration. I did not know, and if it were in the rules - excuse me, that I had to log into the grid and not the forum because that was where it was designated to play.

So yes, you want grid play. Whether that is moving a character from one square to the next or leveling, or hacking, or stealing, or killing Zombies, or picking up wrist watches, or buying a lottery ticket - you want action.

And quite specifically, your three month rule does not even APPLY to my human character. So therefor, I find fault with this entire initial issue of my character being deleted. I knew about the three month rule. I knew that Elijah Cole had been inactive in the forum for a while. If I knew he was required, of this so-called-formula, to actually log into the grid and play - then that would have been NO PROBLEM.

Further more, as I certainly do appreciate Zelda's input - let me just say that yes, we do have our characters together. Yes, they do engage in 18+ Role Play. Yes, they are played out with history, plot lines, and naughty little bits. Elijah Cole would have been more active if we could have posted our live chats to the board.

But you know what, this all could have been avoided if there were specific expectations made for Human characters and their still required grid play.

I honestly don't think this is going to change. It's been a thing for about three years now? I personally love path and do both rp and grid play. I'm an rper first and foremost. I love writing stpries and being creative in them.

At the high possibility of being tossed stones at for even suggesting this; as a happy medium to both prties..
.. if you are just looking for rp only, maybe Path isn't for you?

I have to agree with Enver here.

If you are inactive on the grid for several days, you go into Vacation mode, then if you still don't log on you will be deleted after a time. Is it really too much hard work to log onto the game and move one square? That is not playing the grid, that is keeping the character alive in the game, you have to remember the grid is the game, not the roleplays based off it. If you don't have a character in the city moving around, then what exactly are you roleplaying?

That seems a bit harsh.

With the introduction of the RPP system, there's nothing wrong with people being here who want to be here just for the writing.

Elijah-player isn't saying (as far as I know) that's disregarding the grid and all its Canon. She sticks to the world and the way it works.

And writing is what affects a lot of the chapters, right? I know the two should work in concordance, but suggesting someone leave Path because they don't enjoy the grid aspect seems to be going a bit too far. I for one would lament if we were to lose awesome writers for that reason - as I am here, myself, mainly for the writing.
