His blow caused her to choke. Grabbing her neck Patricia looked at him, pure anger and rage flowed through her veins. She could feel the adrenaline spiking within her. She tried taking a few breaths and only coughed more. She massaged the area he had hit her, and tried to relax her muscles. She tried to get it so she could breathe normally again. She coughed and coughed for a few minutes as she tried to control her body. Standing up straight she looked at him and swallowed. Her throat was sore but she wouldn’t go down that easily.

”It’s not going to be that easy mister… I am no fool.” Her voice was raspy as she spoke, but she still managed to speak. She could feel something was broken inside, she knew she shouldn’t speak that she should just walk away. It would be better that way. Of course she was to stubborn and upset to listen to reason right now. She was ready to fight, she knew she may not leave alive but she would never back down and would never just do as someone told her to do. She had made that mistake once in her life and she would never make the same mistake again.

She could feel her heart rate rising and she knew she needed to calm down, to control her reaction. Of course when you could barely breathe it made it difficult to be calm. She took in a short slow breath as she tried to control her body’s reaction to the blow. She knew something was wrong and she knew her best bet would be to leave right now, to walk away. Of course she couldn’t back down though that had never been her style to just walk away.

“‘Mister?’” Doc sighed in mock disappointment. “You do not remember my name? You wound me.” He watched her, his hands clasped in front of him, as he allows her time to recover herself. Yes he could have finished her, while she was down, but where was the fun in that? It was so much more amusing to let them think they were doing well, and think that they actually had a chance. It made it, that much more satisfying when it finally dawned on them that they were going to die.

As Detective Jones coughed and wheezed and got back to her feet, rasping out that ‘she wasn’t a fool’, Doc had to smile. It was a cold knowing smile. His eyes were narrowed to slits, his lips twisted in a sardonic smirk, he said carefully, allowing each syllable to sink into her brain, “Those missing girls. How long did you really spend on their case? Twenty-four hours? Maybe less? Because you had other things to do hmm? You’re a cop on the take. Young missing innocent girls just cramped your style, didn’t it? You could make more money on the take, than doing your job and actually hunting criminals and murderers.”

His righteous indignation might make one think that he was related to one of the missing girls, that he was possibility seeking retribution against her, since she never found them. “And how many more have gone missing since then? Because you didn’t do your job.” He stares at her, but his casual stance changes to one of coiled tension, ready to spring. The hands are no longer clasped together, they free and flexing. “Don’t you think you should pay..?”

Patricia watched him carefully; she listened to his words as he spoke to her. She could hear him, and hear his point he was attempting to make. She shook her head as she looked at him head on. She was ready this time, ready for his attack and ready to brace herself and attack back. He was quick she knew that now, that much to her was crystal clear. ”Well if I should pay there are plenty of others whom should as well.” She said to him simply.

She had been worried about that case, and yet at the same point in time it was not entirely her fault. They had pulled them off the case. She never knew why and never really understood their reasoning for it. But when people from the upper offices come down and tell you no more looking or investigating this case, if you want to keep your job you listen. She had troubles at first with that. It had never sat well with her and she would be damned if she would take the blame for someone else’s faults.

”It’s so easy to point the finger at someone, isn’t it, so easy when you chose not to be of much use when we needed information. Of course you’re a civilian you have no idea what happened or what went on during that case. What does it matter though, either way you apparently wish to see me suffer.” She shook her head again. She didn’t care; finally she got her heart rate under control, her breathing under control and was able to maintain herself once again. She was ready this time, her arms were relaxed but she was braced for his attack, she was braced to fight back now. She wouldn’t be so easy this time.

“Yes.” Doc nodded, “It is very easy to point the finger. So much more so, when you know more than the cops.”

He was very disappointed at her lack of aggression. She was probably stalling for time, and hoping he would screw up. It could happen. He wasn’t perfect. But the odds were in his favor.

“You see.. Detective Jones, I killed those girls.” He reached into his jacket and pulled his piece, and then gestured with it absently, in her direction, “You never even looked at me as a suspect.”

Doc sighed, “I expected more from the cops. But now I find out that, the cops don’t care. Because they are too busy getting paid to kill people too.” He cants his head to the side. “Cutting in on my turf, Detective? And you think I will simply let you get away that? No reaction? No payment? Well Detective, there will be payment.”

Doc casually mid-gesture with the gun, pulled the double action trigger, and watched the impact hit Detective Jones just above the heart. His voice was passive perhaps bored, as he intoned, “Control your breathing.. or else you will go into shock faster.” He leans closer and whispers, “You don’t have much time.. You really should have taken my offer..”

Doc leaned back against her vehicle, and watched her. “I like your car.. I think I’ll take it.. since you won’t be needing it..”

Hearing his voice she stood there, she was ready to attack when she felt the shot, she could feel the bullet make impact. There was no stopping her from falling she was on the ground. As he had leaned closer to her she spat at him. Taking slow breaths she controlled her heart rate. Slowly she forced herself up off the ground. It was no easy task, and she could feel her blood pooling between her fingers.

Within a few minutes she managed to bring herself to a standing position once again. Glaring at the man she spat at the ground towards his feet. ”I don’t take deals from *** holes.” She spat at him as she spoke. Her blood was still pooling between her fingers, she applied more pressure as she walked over to him. ”Go ahead and kill me.. See how much I could really care...” She glared at him; she had no fear of death or of dying. She couldn’t really care if she did. Of course that had been her mind set before she ever became the killer she was now.

Standing there she made her way over to her car and leaned against it. Looking at the man she forced her eyes to remain open, forced her heart to continue to beat. She forced herself to continue to breathe. ”You think you’re all powerful, I bet those girls screamed for you, and were filled with fear… I am not.” She shook her head. She knew it would be minutes before she died, hell she should probably already be dead, somehow though she was holding on.

“That’s right.. show me what you are made of..” He smirked, “You are just wasting what time you have left.” He holstered the weapon, and casually watched she as she struggled to stand and lean against the car. He was absently wondering where he could dump her body. Perhaps the Quarantine Zone? She would be put down as a cop killed by friendly fire in the panic if seeing zombies.

“And, news flash ‘detective’, I have killed you.” He glanced at his hand, and wiped a smudge of blood off his knuckle. “And no Detective, they didn’t scream. They were too drugged up.

“I don’t care for screaming. Had a screamer once, excellent specimen, strong, well nourished, and clean. But screamed all bloody day and night. Severed her larynx. That broke her will.”

Doc glanced at the dying female, “You don’t look so well.” He drew a deep breath, to test the air that was thick with the smell of her blood. He sighed, “Refreshing...” He didn’t care if she didn’t understand what he was talking about or not. “It used to be coffee I felt that way about.. but not any more.”

She shook her head, she fought death, and it wasn’t the first time she fought against death. She was certain that this could be her last. She wouldn’t go easily though. Slipping her hand into her pocket she grabbed her blade that she had there. It was a small pocket knife and she would have but one shot at it. Taking a slow calculated breath she set her eyes on his throat, it would be her best bet to hit him there.

Pulling back the blade she threw it at him and watched as the blade sliced into his neck and stuck there. She watched him carefully as she did this. ”I won’t simply die.” She sputtered to him as the blood began to pool into her lungs. Spitting a mouthful of blood out on to the ground she leaned back against the car again. ”If I have to die here I am not going alone.” She spat out her voice shaking and barely audible as she did. She knew she would die it was a matter of time but she wasn’t just going to lay down without some form of a fight.

She knew that blade was all she had; she didn’t really have anything else on her of use. She had come out for a routine kill tonight and this had happened. She hadn’t expected this; she hadn’t been prepared for this. That was stupidity on her part, regardless none of that mattered now.

Her blade sank into the flesh of his neck. “You little *****.” He coughed and grasped the blade by the handle and slowly pulled it free. He tested the weight of the knife in his hand briefly, “Nice balance...” he rasped. He would keep it. It would be a trophy of sorts. He slipped it into his jacket pocket as he took a handkerchief from his back pocket.

The cloth was folded diagonally and tied around his neck. “Good effort, but its not a kill shot. However, I have lost blood, and now need to replenish it.” He pushed himself off the car and closed in on her, smiling broadly, displaying the prominent fangs that had not been easily seen before this time.

Doc quickly pinned the Detective against her car with his body, his left hand grabbing her right wrist, and his right hand grabbing her hair and yanking her head back. Her neck now exposed to him, he sank his fangs in and drew her blood into his mouth. He drank greedily.

Withdrawing briefly, as she was close to death, and she would lose consciousness soon, “All I wanted was information. Such a simple request.” He licked his lips savoring the taste of her blood.

Shock was the first thing that registered in her mind. ”You are a disgusting…” Her words trailed off as he sank his fangs into her neck, she bit down on her lip. This pain was a pain she could handle. Her free hand found his head and at first she tried hitting him several times. Once she had enough with that she twisted her fingers into his hair and yanked against his hair. As weak as she was she didn’t give up.

Her body fought against his, one of her knees coming up between his legs as she did. She didn’t pause only continued to push against him. Another spike of adrenaline rolled through her veins. She would lose consciousness soon she could feel it coming to take her. With everything she had she fought against it not giving in and not giving up. She fought of this man or vampire, she didn’t care what he was, but he was invading her and that she hated more than being shot. She didn’t get close to people not like this not unless it was by her own choice. She pushed and fought against him.

“Me?” He huffs in irritation as her head lolls to the side, “I disgust you?”

Doc snorts, “Humans raise cattle and slaughter thousands daily. Humans raise rabbits, and slaughter them just for their pelts, Humans raise pigs.. the most filthy animal of all, for their meat and skins. Humans wear their victims skins on their person.. and *I* disgust .. You..?”

“You” speaking to her as the representative of the human race, “have no right to be ‘disgusted’ over my actions. I have done nothing your kind hasn’t already done a million times over.”

Doc grabbed her chin and stared into her eyes, “Every hamburger you ate, every hotdog you ingested.. was a victim, that gave their life so yours could continue.” He sneered at her, “How righteous you sound, but what weapons did -your- victims have? Hmmm? Hooves? Teeth? At least you had a weapon to use.

“You fucked up.. you squandered your chance. Securing your own death.. But you had the option. What chance did your victims have?”

Doc’s lips curl contemptuously, “You are so quick to fling blame, but you are blind to what your own species does. You are content to live in obliviousness. As long as you don't know.. you feel safe. But what about your victims? Hmm? They still died, so that you could fill your belly.. And you call me .. disgusting?” His ire was up, and he was a roll.

He stared narrow eyed at her. He brought his wrist up to his mouth and ripped it open with his own teeth. “Prove me wrong.. Don’t drink. Because.. if you drink.. you save your soul..” He held his ripped open wrist to her mouth. He whispered in her ear, “Don’t swallow. Prove me wrong. And Die.”
