[Contest] Save this City

Dawn "collapsed" into her chair, tired from the trials of the day. Today was just one of those days, everything seemed to be going wrong. It started when she woke up to check her mail to find out that there had been a fire at Kindred. Thankfully no one got hurt, everyone got out and the fire suppression system that she had invested in had worked. That said, there was now equipment and details that needed to be fixed.

After that, she got up and decided to check on Moon Goddess and her newest business, an animal rescue she called Lunar Animal Rescue Palace.

When she returned to Harper Rock she had been shocked by all the changes, and now she was beginning to see beyond the zombies and other creatures that had taken to the streets. She still didn't know the ins and outs of the reason why, just that now she was seeing what it was doing to the city. To businesses of the city.

Despite this, she was planning on starting other businesses, hoping that in the long run, it would pay off. Dylan, her band mate (and part time thrall), was telling her she was counting her eggs before they hatched, but she was the kind of person that needed to learn from her own mistakes. She just hoped he wasn't right.

To get out of her head, she headed down to the Chemical Plant for a "workout" with the soldiers there. And to, perhaps, get a bite to eat. Whatever these new soldiers were, they had power. She fed on power. On her way to the plant, she had to have killed a good ten zombies and mooncalves. There was even one, it was odd, it wasn't just a normal Mooncalf. It was something else. It looked -smart. Almost like someone was watching from its eyes. Still, she had tried to go for it... and ended up needed the powers she had to not only get away, but heal herself. Once she had, she decided she was just too exhausted to go for her so called workout. Instead she went to check on Lunar and the animals.

Despite so many leaving the city, she was greatful to find employees - good ones - for the shop, to help her gather up animals, care for them, check on their health and play with them. To also train them. This shop was about finding those adorable animals forever homes. That was going to be a hard task given the state of things. She would try though. Not just for the animals, but for a city she now called her home.

Part of her plan, was to work her celebrity so that she could bring people back to this city. It was worth fighting for. She may be a vampire, she may be a blood thief, she may be nuts... but she was going to fight for this city. She would bring people in, one way or another. One day. She just hoped that she wasn't too late to save this city.

As she thought this, she sat up and got to work, putting in extra hours from the comfort of her couch. Her businesses, her city, was worth the lack of sleep.

"Dylan! I need you to get in contact with some of the stage crew for me!" Dawn called out as she curled up in her chair in front of her soundboard. Her eyes rested on the area that was still singed inside the actual studio. She was still dealing with the after effects of the fire at Kindred. Dawn had tried to get people in to work on fixing the studio, but as of late, every work crew she called either tried to take her for everything in order to fix it, or they were already booked solid for months. The only good thing about the fire was the fact that it had been covered by her insurance and they would pay for the loss of her instruments. Instruments that thankfully were already being delivered in the next few days.

Dylan's voice came over the speaker "Donny, got them on one. Also, going to go do some scavenging." Dawn smirked a little, his scavenging as of late had been to her financial gain. That gain was going to help pave the way for what she hoped would be the beginning of her quest to save the city.

"Thanks Dill!" She called out the door before picking up the phone and hitting the held line. "This Is Dawn Chekov, is this Garrison?" She fell silent for a moment as she listened to him then continued. "Garry, it has been a long time! Listen, I need your help with an issue. I'm planning a charity concert but am having a hard time finding reliable people to help with the equipment. I know I can trust you and your crew, is there any way that you'd be free around late May or early June?" She waited again and then smiled her full nine million gigawatt fanged smile. "Great!! I'll get back to you in a week with all the info! Garry, you are my hero!" She listened for a moment, thanked him and then hung up.

Standing, she stretched out a bit then with tablet in hand, walked out to the lobby and past it into her office where Kindred's assistant manager was. "Celeste! We got Garrison! Also, I need you to go over these plans and make sure everything is set up. Once it is then we can go about setting a date."

"Of course Dawna." Her more serious counterpart said as she took the tablet that Dawn was handing to her.

"I leave Kindred in your capable hands, I'm going to go get a workout in before I turn in for the morning. I hope you have a great night." She said as she winked to Celeste and then grabbed her stuff and headed out to the elevator.

Her workout was always the same as of late. Running around the chemical plant, picking up some things, killing some zombies on the way and hoping she didn't run into one of those freaky mooncalves. And today, she was lucky.

An hour before sunrise she was walking into her apartment. Dylan was passed out on her couch, so she walked into her bedroom and closed the door.

Dawn looked up from the terminal, today she was staying home she needed to get some work done on her music and the only way to do that was is to be in a place where no one else could interrupt her. Her music, was one of those things that she liked to do by herself. It brought her a sense of joy that no one other than another artist would understand. Dawn had started the day rather simply, she started out by waking up, eating some breakfast and then hanging out by the computer where she was working on her music.

Today, she was leaving her business is up to her management and her employees, she was that kind of trusting employer. Sure, she did check in, she gave them a call and told them that they were on their own today, and then she told them that she would not be taking any calls today.

Dawn lifted her headphones and put them on, one hand holding them in place while she used the other to mix and add sounds and beats to her music. When she closed her eyes, she could almost hear the music. Every beat of the drum, every pluck of the string made her see colors that formed into a beautiful masterpiece. She was planning on adding her voice into that masterpiece, her head began to sway and she began to hum.

Music was a way to help her think about things without actually thinking. Killing zombies helped her get her anger and crazy out, music centered her so that the fog cleared. If she was going to save this city, she was going to need that fog gone. As it cleared, things came into focus. The event she was planning she hoped would bring everyone together, vampire and human. Granted, there were vampires out there that would sooner kill a human than work with them, but there were humans that would rather kill humans than work with them too.

When she took a break she heard a knock on the door. Her apartment was in the middle of the 'zombie apocalypse' so anyone that came to her house had to have some major balls. Or not a single brain cell. When she opened the door there was a box on her door step. She saw the handwriting and smiled brightly. Her bestie.

When she opened the box, it was a hand. She laughed and shook her head. He was just as morbid as she was, that was a main reason why she loved him so. That and he always took care of her. If ever there was a guy she could spend eternity with, it would be him. Of course, she knew he only loved her as a friend, maybe even a sister, and she was fine with that.

Setting the box on the table, she went back to her music, to the fog clearing art, she had a city to save because clearly it wasn't going to save itself, not without help from each other and her.

Dawn stepped into the chemical plant this morning and sighed softly, she had been target practice for the soldiers and cops today. She hadn't even done anything against the books the day before. Ok, maybe she did a hack... or two... possible four or five. She had kind of lost count. Still, she was a fairly decent hacker, so how did they know? Or was it simply because she looked dead to them and they much prefer to shoot then ask the questions. Thankfully, she came out relatively unscathed. There had been one wounding, but thankfully, her powers let her heal it before it took her down.

She glanced around and then was greeted by her bestie. Dawn hugged him tight and chatted mostly about random things, mostly decorating the bunkhouse in the lower level, those poor soldiers lived in such a dreary place with awful olive colors and cheap wood. Then the two of them set to their usual circuit so that they always met up at the end to relax and shoot the breeze (and the occasional soldier) a bit.

It was after that that Dawn noticed the time, with a few well placed expletives, Dawn kissed her bestie on the cheek and headed out for a bit. She had recently put an add online looking for more employees and she had gotten applications from two interested parties. Both looked like they would be good, but that was why she was making it to her car before yet another stupid cop or soldier tried to shoot at her. She had too meet them and give them interviews before she nailed them down.

When she arrived at Kindred Moon Records, she noticed one of her newest artists was in the back area working on a dance routine. She stopped for a moment to watch the young girl dance before she looked to Celeste who already had the first person waiting for her. Taking them into the back, and closing the door she began the interview.

On the way out, she smiled and handed the tablet to Celeste and nodded before glancing around for the next applicant. Thankfully, Celeste was on point and Dawn was able to welcome the next soon after she had said her goodbyes to the first. Again, she took them into her office and closed the door, only opening it an hour or so later. After saying her goodbyes once more she smiled and winked to Celeste.

Her manager knew what to do from there. And the woman set about doing it as she took the offered tablet back once more and started to walk into her own office. Amy, at the front desk mouthed that they were still working on some details before Dawn started back to her car. She now understood so much more about business than she had at the beginning. But she was glad that everything seemed to be coming up roses. At least, for this week anyways. Now, she just had two other businesses to check on and one more to open in the newest mall.

Dawn stood out front of her newest business, Crescent Moon Cosmetics. She knew that it might be a foolish endeavor, given that there were still so many making their way out of the city. That aside, Dawn was glad that her fame had not only brought in a crowd to celebrate the opening but she had managed to find four good people to help run the business as well has a couple chemists that we're putting together all of the cosmetics. Cosmetics that were all natural, and made for those who liked to be chemical free.

She was handed the keys to her shop in the newest mall in Harper Rock, one that so far had some real life to it despite it being so close to the Quarentine Zone. Of course that meant more soldiers, and so far those bastards haven't tried to shoot her, she suspected that was due to the fact that there were so many civilians around. Her light eyes rested on one that was watching her for longer then necessary. He averted his eyes soon after and she could see that he gripped his gun a bit tighter, clearly on edge.

Stepping up to the door, she turned to her crowd of adoring fans and spoke at a volume just under a scream. "Hello my lovelies!!" She waved and blew kisses before continuing, "I wanted to welcome you all to my newest venture and store, Crescent Moon Cosmetics! I love this city, I would do anything to protect that, which is why I offer my own brand of cosmetics just for you! All natural, going off recipes closer to that of the Egyptians and the Greeks and Romans! Though, without the plants that would be poisonous. These cosmetics are gentle, filled with skin beautifying minerals and vitemins. And the best part? They are also completely vegan!" She laughed and smiled as the crowd cheered and started to push in a little more.

She had started to take notice that her fans seemed a bit more attentive to her. Granted, her fans had always been the best, but now it was almost like she was their goddess, someone that if she told them to jump from the highest bridge, they would without questions. She loved her fans though and would never use her fame in such a way. Though, she did need more power behind her movement to save this city.

She blew more kisses then turned to cut the ribbon across her store opening. "Welcome my moon babies, to Crescent Moon Cosmetics!!" She cried out and then stepped aside so that her fans could make their way into the store. As they made their way in, she handed them coupons and gift cards, as well as samples of lipstick and moisturizers. She was glad to see so many perusing her goods. She stepped towards where they had mad up a makeshift stage and begin to play her piano and sing.

The song was inspiring, hoping to call to her fans to help her by fighting zombies, by visiting businesses and by staying and fighting for their city while being respectful of vampires and humans alike. And at the end of her song she leaned in, winked to those watching her, and let her nerd flag fly.

"May the fourth be with you!"

Dawn woke with a start, today was going to be an interesting night if her dream had any play on what was going to happen. She walked into her living room and picked up the keyboard, sitting down at the same time. First she checked on her businesses, and was shocked to see that today was a fairly good day despite all the trouble that was going on in the city. Though, the fact that she wasn't able to afford the advertisement she wanted was a tad annoying. With a sigh she switched to checking on the cops, as of late their itchy trigger fingers must have had poison ivy because she couldn't go a block without one of them or those stupid soldiers taking shots at her.

After a few minutes on the computer, she learned why. With another sigh - this one filled with the annoyance she felt - she deleted the evidence and then did a few more scans and deep dives to make sure it was all gone. Only then would she be able to make her way out to go and check on not only her companies, but the status of her latest idea to save this city.

The first place she hit was the Clocktower mall where her studio was, construction had begun. The fire hadn't done too much damage but it still had been a task to find the right people for the right price and willing to work in a city of zombies and vampires. She stood watching the workers getting started as Amy walked up to her and handed her a tablet. She glanced down at the information on it, swiping this way and that. "Did you tell them that it would be in their best interests to accept my offer over the others?"

"I did, they are still being quite reluctant though."

"I'll call them later and talk to them myself, perhaps I can convince them to see that I'm the best they will get."

"Very well, Dawna." Amy responded while taking the now offered tablet back so that she could check over her notes. As Amy walked back to her desk, Dawn turned and walked away from the workers to head into her office. She would get this task done if it killed her.

Hours later, she walked out of her office and out of Kindred Moon. She was now on her way to her two places in the Virtical mall in Newbrough. Both her new Animal Rescue and her Jewlery store where there, she liked to check on the animals first, make sure they were happy and healthy while they were there, then she'd oversee any meeting between fur baby and forever parent that happened to be there when she was. Then with confidence in her crew there, she headed to the jewelry store, there wasn't just jems and jewels for humans and vampires, but for animals as well. Cute collars and leashes were set next to rings, bracelets, pendants and charms.

The last place on the docket for her this evening was her newest venture, her cosmetics store that was located in the newest mall to date. When she got there she had to dispatch a zombie that had wandered too close to her store before she went to check on things. Everything else was set for the work she was putting into her plans to save the city, she just had to get those idiots on the phone so that she could get them to agree with her. So that night into the morning she was on the phone in her office.

Dawn stepped out of the mall, she needed to take some time and just take out some of the aggression that she was feeling after hours of getting the run-a-around. They hadn't been able to talk on the phone for some reason so they spent hours going back and forth with emails. It was just one of those things that made the singer want nothing more than to pull out her long white hair. Pull it out and strangle the guy that is.

She wanted to save the city, but to do that she needed to contact the right people. So far, every person that she had talked to had started with the same thoughts. They believed that the city was beyond repair, they believed that it should be bombed off the face of the planet, they believed vampires were the worst of monsters.

Sometimes she was able to convince the people that the people in the city was worth saving but a good portion of them refused to give her the time of day. This guy was one of those that trying to get him to see her view was like pulling teeth. He was just too set in his ways.

So her way of blowing off steam? It was going out and killing any zombie she could find. One thing that was good about the new mall was it's proximity to the once barricaded quarantine zone. It was still that way, though it seemed silly to do so, zombies and fadebeasts rose on the outside now. Still, taking them down, one by one, stepping in behind them and running her sword through their heads made her feel a little better. Especially when she ended up protecting someone by doing so. She had even more fun with those fadebeasts, though the big ones were just too smart, she had tried to find one just so that she could observe it and was unable to find one on this evening. It was like they knew that she was hunting for one of them and had just vanished from sight.

Slowly, surely, she made her way around the city, taking out a zombie here, a fadebeast there until she had so many ears that she had no place left to hide them. She made her way back to the quarantine zone where she knew that unlike the shops, there was a militia man that paid a hefty sum for the proof that zombies had died. When she found the male she was looking for, she sold him the proof and with all those nasty ears out of her presence and a good four grand now burning a hole in her pocket, she made her way to the bank.

Dawn was glad that she had taken out all her anger, because when her phone rang and she saw who it was, she needed to be her sweeter, more charming self. She needed to convince this guy that he would be making the best deal possible with her and her alone, no one else would beat her because she was not the kind of girl who gave up easily (or at all).
