"Promoted Sire" & Advertising Contributions
So the idea Cliff and I were talking about was a "promoted sire" item in the karma shop which is available for 10 karma. When bought, the karma purchase will go directly to advertising Path on Facebook and Google.
In return, assuming your siring settings allow it, you'll be guaranteed to show up on the potential sires list for any newbie making a character, for 1 full week afterwards. The player will also go down as having been referred by you (as they likely would be, due to the advertising), which means potential karma rewards later.
10 karma worth of advertising would equal roughly 300-500 advertisement engagements, and potentially a lot of sign ups as a result. The engagements also help the Path social media to stand out and increase the number of page likes, having a good knock on effect. The ads are targeted to a mixture of things, including some or all of the following, depending on the ad we're going with that week: browser based games, role-playing, forum role play, RPGs, LARP, vampires, creative writing. A few days ago I ran an ad for a total of $3, which ended with around 7-10 newbies signing up, and at least one has hung around.
The advantages of being a sire to many newbies is that you get a chance to gather these newbies up and show them the ropes, and potentially form a new faction / clique / bloodline of new people. Those showing they are really great at keeping newbies around might even be offered a first generation vampire slot later down the line.
My thinking is that if we went ahead with this item, we'd do it once the app is up and running, in order to maximise the influx of new people all at once, to encourage them all to stick around.
The question is, would you be interested in this item?

Also, you can keep your siring links off if, like me, don't want childer but still want to contribute.

There's a plausible chance I'd end up doing this, though probably not right now just because I'm saving up for a new character slot...that and I don't actually buy karma just yet, maybe some day but I don't have that kind of money now.
I usually keep this site in mind when on others, because it doesn't get the attention it deserves, so when I get the chance I try to mention it one way or another.

how would you decide whose siring link to promote & assign referral rewards to if you get multiple players doing this every week?

I'd likely make it so that only 3 people at a time can do it, and the referrals would shift between each current contributor appropriately (I'd probably run 3 seperate ads if it came to that, so it would triple the referrals anyway). The randomly chosen sires could show up to 3 featured, and the rest random as normal. Once the 3 featured slots are taken, it would say sold out until [time stamp].Alexandrea wrote:how would you decide whose siring link to promote & assign referral rewards to if you get multiple players doing this every week?
Either that or queue people one at a time.

Maybe 1 per IP every x amount of weeks? Some people have a ton of characters and could easily dominate the featured sires for weeks if not months.Mooncalf wrote:I'd likely make it so that only 3 people at a time can do it, and the referrals would shift between each current contributor appropriately (I'd probably run 3 seperate ads if it came to that, so it would triple the referrals anyway). Re: "Promoted Sire" & Advertising Contributions
If people were donating THAT much karma to it, I'd figure something out that lets everyone get what they want.
I mean, the more people donating to it, the more newbies we'd have joining all at once, which means the more chance they'd get childer. So their representation as a featured sire (even with 1 single slot) could be proportional to the amount of donations in for that week, and they'd still get just as many childer compared to if them and them alone donated. The more donators, the more referrals and newbies, so the more there is to share between all the donators.

How’d it work for a human character? I’m assuming they’d just get the referrals but figure better to clarify.
