Re: Auction misuse
A lot of games prevent this sort of nonsense by imposing a percentage fee on items posted to an Auction House. If you charge a 10% fee to post the item, players can't do this. It doesn't prevent Digo from storing 100 cell phones for a week on the AH for $1,000,000... but he has to pay $100,000 to rent their space.
If you want to be kind about it, you can refund the fee for any items that ACTUALLY get sold... but most of us are eyeball-deep in In-Game Currency as it is.

I like this idea, personally.Wendigo wrote:A lot of games prevent this sort of nonsense by imposing a percentage fee on items posted to an Auction House. Re: Auction misuse
Most games only impose the fees on sold items. Doing it for items which don't sell can put people off attempting to sell items, and the auction is already sparsely populated enough as it is.

Alex would be happy to take that extra cash off of your guy's hands, Digo. lol ;) Seriously though, I don't think it's "MOST".Wendigo wrote:but most of us are eyeball-deep in In-Game Currency as it is.

Re: Auction misuse
I very much like the auction house here as it is... barring the storing items rort.
I also would vote for naming and shaming the wuckfit for being why we can't have shiny things.
Actually... forget fixing it. Given that only one of the multi item auctions is legit, I say turn it off. Back to single items.Llangort wrote:I don't think this needs to be implemented as a system thing. I think guidelines for use should be enough.

Re: Auction misuse
I know of at least two games I play where paying the 10% is a requisite for posting the item. I do, however, agree that it might discourage people from posting.Mooncalf wrote:Most games only impose the fees on sold items. Maybe the solution is to give control over to the players? You could have a "indicate misuse" button on the Auction House next to items posted at over a certain amount (like items over $50k or items over 1,000x the items' vendor value). Then, if enough people (say five) flag an item, THEN the owner gets charged the 10% or the item gets "confiscated" by the Auction House staff.
Then, you have a mix of "you can't use the AH for storage" but also "you don't inherently get charged 10%".

Re: Auction misuse
Added this line to the auction add listing page:
"Auction misuse (such as using it purely for storage) will result in deleted items."
I'm also considering making it so that you can't access the auction from any raids, dungeons, labyrinth, etc. It's not realistic to deliver items from those locations.
