Night 2: Painting a Brighter Future [Open]

OOC NOTE: Posts should be rapid reply. No more than 250 words per post, to keep things moving and flowing. Cheers!
Last night had gone pleasingly well, in Enver's mind. There had been a couple of vaguely familiar faces at the event, and some new ones too. It gave the Allurist hope, in a sense. Tonight was all Indigo's night, and something he was looking forward to. Enver wasn't positive what Indigo's artistic talents were, but he knew she was into the arts in some form or another.

His casino had been transformed earlier in the day by a hired staff after Amalea had yet again, performed the ritual that would prevent any sort of violence. They removed all the gambling tables, covered the machines that couldn't be easily moved with drop clothes and a wooden dance floor of types that had been rented covered all the carpeted areas. Tables had been set up in no strategic order, allowing quite a lot of space between each table to maneuver and mingle, if people so wanted to. Given tonight's festivities could get messy, Enver opted for a dark stone-wash jeans and black long sleeved shirt for the night, the male taking a back seat in whatever it was Miss Knight had planned for those who were brave enough to show up.

Adley understood why the art night was being held at the Casino and not at the Apiary, though Indigo and he had advertised as much as they could at Apiary regardless. The Necromancer knew that there were models required and, given his expertise didn’t exactly lean toward paint, charcoal, or pencil, he knew exactly what he was going to be doing.

He sauntered into the Casino; he felt like he should have been dressed in more than just his tan shorts and long-sleeved white t-shirt. But the clothing wouldn’t be staying on for very long, so what did it matter? He’d allowed his hair to grow and, now that it was perfectly curled and somewhat blonde, he knew exactly what kind of pose he wanted to stand in. He’d come early to help the others set up, a few spare easels and materials unpacked from his jeep. There was a table set up with all kinds of canvases and paper, depending on what medium the artists would choose to use – acrylics, watercolours, oils, charcoals, pencils, ink, you name it, it was all available and up for grabs.

Adley wandered over to where Enver rested, jutting his chin in a ‘what’s up?’ kind of greeting. All they had to do, now, was wait for the artists to arrive.

So Flynn was totally not happy about having to go to Art Night. Which was to say that Az was tucked against his side as the pair of them made their way through Chalktown towards the Lucky Strikes Casino from the transit station. Az had made the executive decision not to teleport them in because Flynn always looked like he was about to lose his lunch whenever they appeared suddenly on the opposite side of the town from one of the apartments. Besides, autumn was coming in full force. The air was beginning to cool down. The smells of the season were the absolute best, with the lingering scent of pumpkin spice and the earthy rot of falling leaves.

Anyway, the Paladin’s features were a little overcast with the faintest of dark clouds, and he looked like he was about to fall into a full scale scowl. So right as they were entering the parking lot for the Casino, Az decided he was going to do something about this pressing issue. So he let go of Flynn’s arm, instead curling his own around a broad set of shoulders so he could climb up onto a back. His knees tucked against the other man’s sides, and his chest shoved against a back. One arm stayed wrapped around those shoulders so a free hand could drift through short, dark hair. The intention was to drag a head back so he could peer down into eyes.

“Come on, Mr. Handsome McSulkins. It’s going to be totally fine...and don’t even think about dropping me into a trashcan again.”

OOC NOTE: Lakenna is deaf, and any speech she makes is mindspeak, so unless she's speaking directly to your character, it won't be heard. I'm going to do my best to make her talk to everyone, though! :D

The nightlife as a vampire was… different.

It was as though her senses had been re-awakened. The lights were brighter, the smells stronger, the vibe thicker. She could practically feel the excitement and adrenaline dance along her skin. The only thing missing was the sound. She couldn’t hear the laughter, the conversation, or the music. The only sound she was ever graced with was the low, steady hum of electricity and dull voices inside her mind. It was as though her brain had become a broken, ancient radio, and it was driving her mad.

It was why she had thought to stay home, lock herself in her bedroom, and bury herself beneath the covers. She wasn’t a shut-in type of girl, but she couldn’t shake the madness chipping away at her mind. The telepath was… changed. Yet, when her sire approached her and invited her to the party, the look of earnest concern and hope in his eyes weakened her. She didn’t remember nodding her consent. She only remembered his pleased smile before he disappeared to get ready.

One text to her sister and Jericho later that let them know where she had gone, she made her way to the Casino, and only managed to almost get struck by a passing car twice. When she finally made her way into the building, her fingers twirling a leather strap around, she located Adley and moved straight for him, smile plastered on as she spoke into his mind. ‘Hey there, gorgeous. Who’s the sugar daddy? ‘

Too much had happened since the two had returned from their trip. Aurora could still feel the explosion knocking her off her feet, she could still feel the taste of the cold blood that had gone down her throat. She was adapting, but she fluttered between emotions: anger, pain, acceptance. She was torn between being thankful for Adley in regards to saving her and not letting her die, but she knew she’d made the subconscious decision to fight. He couldn’t be at fault, and he didn’t plant the bomb that had ended her life in some twisted malicious manner.

In between her moping and self pity, she’d heard Lakenna and Adley had mentioned an art night at the new Casino. In some ways, the young woman had told herself it would be a good way to resettle her nerves and bond with her new family. In other way, it would be a good way for her to continue on with her art. Aurora ultimately decided to leave with enough time not to be late.

As she entered, the surprise to see a movie star there was evident on her features as she moved to a spot near the front, off to the side. It would give her a different view of the subject, her mind debating on materials as she greeted her sire with a smile and telepathically whistled at Lakenna.

Art Night. It had never been his intention to attend, mostly due to his own lack of knowledge and skill when it came to anything involving a brush, pencil, charcoal...or whatever else artists used as their medium. Music was one thing, but he didn't foresee that being part of the night's festivities and that was more than enough to put him in a sour mood. Not that his mood seemed to have deterred Azraeth any as he pulled them through the stops toward Chalktown. Nothing ever seemed to deter him from anything, really. Evidenced by the fact the vampire was climbing up onto his back like a baby koala might cling its mother, despite the fact it hadn't ended very well for him the last time he gave it a shot. 'This guy...'

Flynn didn't resist the head tilting, but he only used that opportunity to scowl at the other man for even suggesting that everything was going to be fine. "If you don't want to be dumped in a trashcan, then maybe you should avoid the scenario that landed you in one in the first place?" His nose wrinkled, then, even as he wrapped his arms beneath the vampire's legs to keep him from slipping down, supporting his weight. Plus, they were making their way through a parking lot, there was no trashcan to dump him in. For the moment. "And for the record, I am not sulking. I'm just...brooding. Which is totally not the same thing." Yes, it was. It was entirely the same thing. That wasn't the point.

His digits were surprisingly warm, which might have been because he’d freshly fed, or because he remained close to Flynn. Maybe it was the layers of insulation. Whatever the case, the slender fingers moved through those soft strands, carefully dragging them back and away from a forehead or eyes while Az peered down into his Paladin. “Are you referring to climbing you, being physically close to you in general, or dating you?” He asked as the arm which lay against a collarbone slowly slid, his thumb lazily dragging over a hidden clavicle before the fleshy part of the digit gave the barest tap against a newly exposed and vulnerable pulse. “Because I happen to be pretty attached to literally all of those things, and if you can handle the return of my super hero alter ego, then I suppose smelling like old cabbage won’t kill me.” He insisted before their lips pressed together in a kiss that was surprisingly chaste for the situation.

Followed by a kiss to the forehead.

“Now come on, MacCaulay Sulk--Broodin.” His nostrils scrunched, because the name pun didn’t work at all. Which was just plain disappointing. “Grumpaluffagus?” There we go. Crushed it. “Now come on, Grumpaluffagus, we have an Art Night to attend. I’m sure we’ll meet all sorts of people, see that gorgeous lady with the red dress from last night?” He asked, as if trying to entice Flynn to step towards the door. Though he half expected the man to tighten his grip on the vampire’s legs and sprint off in the direction of the woods like a bandit with loot. “And...if you at least attempt to socialize, I don’t see why I can’t fingerpaint with you later.” Of course, the exact nature of this fingerpainting was suspect from the outset, given that Az was the one to bring it up. Maybe it was blood. Maybe it was actual paint. Maybe it was something else entirely.

Grinnnnn.

Indigo had arrived early setting up as the night would not be one she was unfamiliar with. It was actually like slipping into a comfy chair and relaxing. Which was exactly what she was doing minus the comfy chair of course. Various examples of current artists talents were brought over from the Apiary and a few of those faces were seen moving about setting up the final touches to their individual displays. A fair representation of the art community was in attendance. Human, some who had advanced into various paths that afforded them skills and powers that were out there and vampires predictably.

She adjusted the last of the paint center that would be available for later in the evening once the meet, greet and discuss portion of the night had concluded. The idea was stations supported and staffed by resident artists established and up and coming to talk about the impact the community program had in their lives professionally and personally. The hope was to convey that despite the community programs diversity encompassing a broader scale than ever before it was working and thriving to reach out in a peaceful manner and succeeding.

A shift of her gray t-shirt revealed the thin white strap tied around the back of her neck. The loose fit tightened at her waist with the casual white shorts that seemed a bit daring for the cooler weather settling in. Ankle wrap flat sandals revealed her consistency with the summer look as did her face which was natural and free of any products to enhance anything.

“Thank you again for being a part of this tonight.” She stepped over and whispered to the one who was to be thanked for making so much of what the Apiary had grown as well as the resident artists it had to buzz about. “It can finally begin serving its purpose.” Indigo was hoping that Adley would find the night stimulating. If it wasn’t then she would reevaluate her delivery and presentation skills. Anything for peace. “Phineas would have loved it.”

Vita was pretty much a creature of habit; regardless of becoming a vampire. She was either at the Apiary studying new techniques, at the Apiary improving her techniques, or every now and again outside expanding her 'canvas.' Indigo had mentioned in passing that there was some event in another city not far from Harper Rock.

While Vita was here for Indigo and her hopeful success, Vita also came for her own interests. A new area where she might be able to display her works for other parts of the world to see. She helped where and when she could with the setup for whatever stations Indigo arranged, while allowing her eyes to roam around to try and figure out what Indigo had up her sleeve. At some point, Vita managed to get some paint on her fingers, but shrugged it off and wiped the color on her light blue jeans. Whatever it was, Vita was positive it was absolutely brilliant and all would be revealed when the time was right.

And, just like that, everyone arrived.

It was the voice in his head that alerted him to Lakenna’s arrival; the woman he’d found on the grass with her sister, skin burnt crispy. Now, she was full and whole – aside from her hearing, however. He grinned and waved her over. ”This is Lakenna,” he said to Enver as he pulled out his phone. ”She lost her hearing. You’ll have to write things down. Or text her. Or ah… if you have that nifty mindspeak thing, she can speak to you that way,” he said. All the while, his fingers were flying across the screen of his own phone; over Lakenna’s shoulder, he noticed the arrival of Craven. And of Vita. Indigo floated to their side, too.

Craven had found a seat, but as soon as Adley caught her eye he waved her over. He also lifted fingers to his lips to let loose a wolf whistle that would get Vita’s attention.

[T] This is Enver. Vita’s here too, you can meet her –read the text, which he’d sent flinging to Lakenna’s phone. It was a temporary solution; Adley was more than willing to learn sign language along with one of his newest childer. He couldn’t keep the proud smile from his face as he watched them gather all in the one place; they just needed Jericho.
