Is there a purpose for secrecy anymore?

Post by Varo Ricci (DELETED 9075) »

So, obviously basically everyone should know about vampires at this point. Would vampires still bother trying to keep themselves secret as a whole?

I ask this because I'm pretty sure the whole "Secrecy violation" thing is still being used. And thus doing things against it would make things difficult for the person who violated it, although there's really no more secrecy about it is there?

I think it'd be pertinent for a vampire to try to keep themselves secret if they want to avoid being shot and chased down by soldiers, for sure.

Some might not care. But there'd still be secrecy, just for different reasons.

From a story point of view, vampire secrecy on the whole has been broken.

Individual vampires may try to keep their vampiric identity secret, but this is going to prove to be very difficult in the current political climate, especially with your average human knowing how to identify most vampires using a mirror, etc.

Secrecy violations, on grid, shouldn't be a thing anymore. If you spot any of them, that's a glitch, and should be reported as a bug. However, there is notoriety, which is a different thing. Notoriety is basically a measure of how visibly criminal your character is.

As you say, individual secrecy is still important to the individual, so they don't get recognised and chased down by hunters. But overall, as vampires are already exposed now, there'd be limited need for collective secrecy, unless a group wanted to try to make it so that vampires sort of slip back into the shadows so that attention is no longer on them.

Having said that, being spotted feeding not only makes the individual a target, but worsens the relations between vampires and humans.
