You Look Like I Need A Drink [Starla]

Post by Ivara (DELETED 8614) »

“Your new paralegal is here.”

The soft spoken words broke through her concentration, and she forced her tired gaze from the glare of her screen with a quiet sigh. “At least this one is on time. She is on time, isn’t she?” It was increasingly difficult for her to keep up with the new schedules, and as she fought to keep her voice even, she watched her assistant from beneath half-closed eyes. Ayanna had grown immensely over the course of their time together, and already had her tablet in hand, stylist tapping at the screen. “A few minutes early, actually. She was scheduled for nine. It’s fifteen minutes till.” The delectable woman voiced the words with an amused roll of her eyes, white glossed lips curving into a smile. Tossing her pen onto the desk, she leaned back in her chair as her gaze swept to the clock, verifying the time with a laugh.

“I thought she’d be the one,” she stated, her voice as closed to pleased as it would ever be. Drumming her painted nails against the pristine surface of her desk, she hummed in thought for a moment before finally nodding her head. “Send her in. There is a lot to do, and the files that were sent over are a mess. If she’s here early, then she’ll work early.” Without missing a beat, Ayanna inclined her head and turned, the sound of her heels echoing off the nearly bare walls as she made her way towards the waiting room.

“She will see you now. No, you’re not in any trouble.”

Catching the end of her sentence, Ivara chuckled quietly as she reached across her desk to gather the files. The moment Ayanna traveled back into the room, Genesis close on her heels, she was once again struck by the ethereal beauty of the pair. She hadn’t set out to employee gorgeous women, though, she wouldn’t complain about how it turned out. Once her assistant stepped to the side, the smile was wiped from her painted lips, and the bored glare had returned as she hummed in thought.

“Eager, are we?”

She didn’t bother giving the brunette a chance to respond, and instead slid the stack of files across the desk, her fingers tapping on the top one. “I’ve kept them organized for you, but that is about all I can say. Whoever put these together before us… well,” trailing off, she grit her teeth in frustration. “My wife could have done a better job, and she has the intelligence of a brain dead squirrel.” Ignoring the choked laugh from Ayanna, she kept her cold stare locked on Genesis, brow raised. “I need this sorted and figured out by noon Friday. I have faith you will accomplish this. If not, I’ll see you at McDonald’s.”

Relaxing back in her seat, she waited for the woman to finally speak, and when she did, she smiled. “No problem, Miss Johansson. I will get right on this. My office is next door, oui?” Without saying a word, she waved a hand towards Ayanna, and the woman headed out of the office, Genesis and files hurrying behind her just as the bell chimed, causing her assistant to hesitate.

“She is not taking visitors.”

Slipping her phone from her pocket, Starla checked the time again as she cursed the bus driver under her breath, urging the broad-shouldered woman to speed up, even as traffic came to a stand-still in the late evening traffic. The small, curvy blonde griped under her breath as she let her honey-colored gaze flick over the bustling sidewalk. She could probably make it to work faster if she just hopped off the bus now, and walked the rest of the way. She wasn’t far, but with how traffic was, she would be on the bus another half hour just to get around the corner of the next block. She shoved her fingers back through her hair and gave a frustrated growl, before shoving herself to her feet and storming to the front of the bus.

She shouldered her backpack and swiped her metro card at the terminal at the front of the bus as she jammed her thumb at the hydraulic doors. “Hey, mind letting me off? I’m going to be late for work in this traffic. I can’t be having that today... big deal at the office, okay? Please?” She gave the thin, sharp featured woman behind the door a bright grin and a light flutter of her lashes, though the dark skinned woman only offered her a scowl, and a shake of her head. “Only official stops on the express, honey. Why don’t you go back to your seat?” The lash in her voice took Starla aback. She was sure she’d been as nice as she could’ve managed, and had explained her genuine reason for wanting off... it was hardly an unreasonable request, she knew, so she flexed her fingers and took a deep breath. Instead of yelling, she turned on the heel of her trainers and pressed an open palm against the door.

The bus driver yelling at her was only an annoying buzz in the back of her head as she pushed, the metal of the door creasing beneath her incredible strength as she shoved the door aside and stepped out onto the sidewalk. Without a glance back at the tall woman leaning out the door of the bus, shaking an angry fist at her, Starla rushed off around the corner of the block and toward Ivara’s office. She was going to be so late. So, so late. And Ivara was going to have her head for it, too.

Though, that didn’t always turn out so bad for her. She let a coy grin spread across her face as she slowed to a walk, and made her way across the crosswalk to the correct side of the street. No, sometimes, pissing off the intensely featured lawyer was a blessing in itself, as her rages often tended to be a certain pleasure in themselves, even if she hadn’t intended them to be. Sometimes, being mistress to a powerful woman had its perks. She gave an inner chuckle as she clenched her fingers around the shoulder strap of her pack, and shoved her way into the woman’s law office, only to collide with the one person in the entire world she always hoped to avoid, no matter the cost.

Ashley. Get out of the way, ******* skank.” she hissed beneath her breath, closing a fist and fighting the urge to throw a punch right into the dumb slut’s gut. Instead, she gave a scowl and, without apologizing, stepped around the ethnic beauty and pulled her tablet from a flap in her pack. “You should really get out of the way. This is a place of business, not your personal battlefield. Ivara’s at work, so if you don’t care to get the hell out of her office, the rest of us would be happy to get back to our jobs.
Get up off your knees, girl. Stand face to face with your God and find out what you are...
