[Enver] Rocking start

Post by Megan (DELETED 9014) »

There were many things that preoccupied Megan O’Brien these days, namely their newest housemate—Nick—who seemed incapable of upholding his end of the chores agreement. The guy had started off well enough when he’d first moved in, but it’d been weeks since he’d actually done anything without being bullied into action. Assigned the responsibility of talking to him this time around, Megan was dreading the confrontation. What should have been a pleasant night off from her second job was turning into unpaid, unnecessary overtime at her first in order to avoid the whole thing. If she could push off getting home too early, then perhaps she could put off the entire confab to a later date.

Perched over the crafting bench, the young sorceress picked at the regulator she’d been commissioned to repair earlier in the week. There was no rush on the job, but out of the many things she was expected to handle, diving gear was what she preferred. Barred from scuba diving due to the unilateral deafness she’d suffered on her last dive many years ago, there was something about simply being around diving gear that lifted her spirits. Too focused on technicalities when explaining to customers and servicing gear, Megan seldom permitted herself to reminisce about what she was missing.

Unaware of the time that’d gone by since she’d been asked to close up, the blonde slipped from the stool and crouched in front of the toolbox beneath the bench. The task at hand might have to be delayed if she was forced to order some of the parts, which was perhaps just as well considering how little light she was working with. Mornings were the best time to sit here and work, when the sunrays filtered in and lit the entire bench without blinding her. And until morning this would have to wait, for the replacement she needed would have to be called in from the outlet.

As Megan straightened to her full height, she extended her arms overhead until her spine cracked. Though she enjoyed the job, it required far more sitting than her willowy frame was accustomed to.

Resigning herself to an early late night, she began to tidy her workspace and mentally prepare for the conversation that’d no doubt turn into an argument. Nick was stubborn and entitled, and Megan wasn’t looking forward to dealing with him one iota. As she contemplated the many ways this could go wrong, a sound caught her attention. It must have been incredibly loud for her to hear it up here, and though she couldn’t tell where exactly it had come from, it was evident from the emptiness of the room she stood in that if the sound came from inside the boat, then it could only be downstairs in the shop. ****-- had she locked the door? Rosalyn had said she would on the way out, hadn’t she?

Nearing the staircase, Megan centred her energy and cast as wide a net as possible to track the source of the sound. Its source was definitely downstairs. Grabbing the nearest object (a wooden canoe paddle propped against the wall), she began her descend, unaware of the creak in her step. No sooner did she something out the corner of her eye did she swat at it with superhuman force, paddle swinging wildly through the air.

"Send her the usual severance package-." Enver paused, thinking about the person they were talking about; he and Jennifer Crowley, before changing his mind. "The usual, plus what sixty percent would be for the next three months." That would do her well; more than well. Lelantos hadn't shown up for work for quite some time now, yet Enver paid her time and time again. And he still would be, if someone else hadn't needed and wanted the job. The severance package, not quite typical, spoke of his soft nature to his ex-hell, all his ex's.

"I'm going to be doing some things in my office for a few hours. Unless it''s an emergency, I don't want anyone bothering me. Not even you, Mrs. Crowley." She was a good worker, maybe too good for him. Always watchful, strategizing what people were doing before they even did it-she was that damn good. She gave Enver a disbelieving look, knowing he rarely closed his door, so the male threw his hands in the air. "Vampire stuff, okay?" He sighed, then waved the woman away with both his hands, before disappearing into his office and locking the doors.

He didn't have vampire things to do. Enver was bailing out of work for a bit. The weather was getting nicer and that meant soon he could take Lady out and do some fishing. He moved to the bathroom in his office, closed the door behind him and moved to the far right corner of the bathroom, before he vanished and ended up on the other side of town and on his prize possession. Not so much 'on' as down below the deck, but close enough.

Enver started whistling quietly as he turned on the light above his head and started rummaging around for his fishing gear. A little bit of this, that, rod and some bait that was in a mini fridge just below a counter that housed all his coffee needs and desires. Each thing that he grabbed was set in a pile on a table, Enver making a list of things he'd need to get for his fishing expedition tomorrow. The important stuff. The good stuff. Beer. With two containers of worms, beer and the right equipment, the water didn't stand a chance at keeping the fish out of his boat.

With everything put in its place [minus the worms], Enver headed towards the stairs that would lead him to the deck. As soon as a hand was on the door knob, it swung open; a little too easily, and something large and wooden came at him. It connected with the side of his skull and Enver let out a howl of pain and annoyance, as he ducked, trying to avoid it from coming at him from the other side. "What the hell?" Enver growled as he wobbled around, trying to stay ducked, but straight up as he moved away from the swinging paddle.

Megan was not the willowy sort of tall. The ungainliness that’d set her apart from her peers as early as twelve years of age (when she’d already towered over half the boys in her grade) was a life sentence. Though physically strong, there was a lack of connection between her limbs and brain which robbed most of her movements of any grace whatsoever. As she swung the canoe paddle, her foot tripped over the other, sending her shoulder crashing into the doorway. The paddle banged the ceiling before coming back down, barely avoiding the victim.

Tripping backwards to avoid falling forwards, the blonde held the paddle before her, elbows at her side as she pointed the blade’s tip at the man. Feet planted firmly on the ground (and necessarily apart from one another to avoid another croche-pied), she held the door open and blocked the way.

“The store is closed and you’re trespassing.”

This almost reminded Enver a movie he was in two decades ago. The only difference was it wasn't an oar coming at him, but a baseball bat. A prop baseball bat. "Oi!" Enver growled as more swings kept coming his way, until the assailant was stumbling backwards from the ferocity of his or her swings. Enver hadn't been able to really get a good look, mainly because he was ducking to avoid getting his skull cracked open.

The warning had Enver hobbling backwards too, holding up both hands. "Wait, wait. I know the store is closed, because I own the damn thing!" He would have laughed, if his head still wasn't throbbing from being smacked so hard. "You play for the Dodgers?" He asked, somewhat bitterly, rubbing at his head. "Could take up a career change." He suggested as the Allurist narrowed his eyes, focusing on the assailant. He recognized her, only because Enver had so few employees at this place. Fishing wasn't as big of a demand as movies, or the other things he dabbled in. Plus, she didn't look like Roger-the old guy Enver had hired part time about a year ago. "Should up your pay to security status." Now he did chuckle, the hand dropping from his head, to the side of his tall frame. "Sorry to scare you. I, ahhh...come here to escape sometimes." He confessed, then threw a thumb over his shoulder. "From work. The city."
