She listened attentively to his responses, gauging in the way he glossed over the questions so swiftly that subjects arose not meant for strangers. Maryl had no need to pry, her own business was complicated enough, and she was slightly taken aback at his question of if she was a local of Harper Rock. After all, he'd seen her resumé hadn't he? Or was this his way of getting to know his employees outside of tedious paperwork? She briefly analysed the situation in her mind, supposing that a vampire business owner would likely get to know their staff personally for security reasons, especially with the whole thing being public knowledge, now. She clearly took a moment to try and phrase the answer right, having no choice but to tell the truth and hope that Enver would leave it at that, not digging deeper into the story.
"No, I grew up in Chicago, Illinois, and lived there until recently. Finished my studies there as a Professor of History and Anthropology, though finding work was... difficult. I came here to visit an old friend, had some car trouble and decided to stick around for a bit." she said, speaking in half-truths to avoid talking about the real reason she was here, and what had all happened to her. She pondered if he would even be able to tell if she was a vampire, for she definetly couldn't tell he was when first she saw him. Perhaps it was some manner of trained sense that grew more accute the more one's powers grew. "California, hmm? I'd say you certainly got -far- away from home." she said, merely to keep the conversation going, not adding more to the question. Maryl softly smirked, though not at the conversation, but more at the received perception that neither felt like sharing the whole story. "So where do you see yourself going, from here? Looking to expand or open more businesses? If the myths about vampirism are true, I'm sure there's a lot of future to plan, no?" she asked politely with a smirk, innocently, yet calculated. It was a bold move to bring up the vampirism, as she had no idea what powers he posessed, but likely knew they were greater than her own. It was the only way to perhaps get answers from a man whom seemed reluctant to talk at length about anything, not to mention he was the only vampire that she knew...

Enver had 'glanced' over her application. In truth, he just agreed with the woman he put in charge of the tedious and mundane tasks Enver didn't want, or like doing. He trusted her judgement, so when she handed him two applications of potentials, Enver just went with his gut feeling and hired the woman he was now talking with.
He nodded, familiar with Chicago due to his book tour. He cringed, thinking about how things ended up in Chicago while he was briefly there, before moving past that night and everything with it. "You should check out the college in town. They've got a nice campus. If you ever want to teach what you know, that is." Enver suggested, wondering if he should pass along the name of the person who would help her with that. Another vampire, but not out of the closet. To each their own. Enver had no shame in being a vampire, outside the fact that at times, the guy missed being human. Luckily for him, he was as close as vampires could get to being human.
"And yeah, that was the plan. The further away, the better for everyone." Enver furrowed his brows in thought, thinking back to his first ex-wife who was now dead due to a tragic turn of events. Her son, who had to be...two now, maybe three, left without his mom, but living with the slum dad who got all of her money, which was in theory, mostly his money. From the divorce. His teeth gritted together, before Enver cleared his throat and shrugged his shoulders. "Maybe. I've no inspiration for more businesses at the moment. Four here and one back home keeps me busy enough. Never mind the other things I've taken an interest in lately." Enver didn't expand on what those things were, but his book had made a half way decent lump sum of cash for his publicist and himself, and the movie that was about to be released in late fall, or early winter should hopefully bring in more money. All things she might know about, if she read or listened to the news from time to time.
"Besides, I've always been a here and now sort of guy...so, anything past tomorrow isn't on my agenda yet. Unless it's a pre-planned board meeting." Enver chuckled, raised a hand to his temple and acted as if his finger and thumb were a gun, and he pulled the trigger. He hated all the logistics of that stuff, but...what could he do? He only had so much money when he first came here-not enough to do half of what Enver wanted to do back then. So, a few well to do business men, a fan and some rich widow invested in him and here he was. "I, uh, should probably let you get back to work...thanks again. Glad it's working out here. I should go see-uh...forget his name, but the guy who does all this." Enver pointed to the cameras throughout the store before his hands came together, and his two pointer fingers remained locked together, while the others folded. He bowed slightly, before giving her a wink, then took off towards the small offices in search of...well, it'd come to him as soon as he saw his face.

"I'll think about it. I've got an idea in mind with some old contacts of mine, perhaps it's time for something new." she responded to the suggestion of working at the local college. It was tempting, but the risk was too great that one of so many students might discover she's a vampire by merely glancing into a reflection. Besides, she had plans in mind, a good way to invest in her future research, but this would be after she solved some... personal things. She nodded as she listened intently to his reponses, still seeming interested despite his evasive answers. She chuckled along with him, but she pondered the thought that it was likely very difficult to get answers, real answers, out of any vampire. After all, she'd been extremely careful herself, if not for the 'other her' attracting so much damned attention. As he said his farewells, she said: "Thanks for stopping by, as well! Hope to talk to you again, soon." Though she quickly noticed that her thoughts about the 'other her' provoked some manner of response, and her fangs were briefly visible just as Enver bowed, which she hoped she'd retracted swiftly enough before anyone noticed. Instead of saying more final words, she simply smiled, though with lightly panicked eyes. A few hours were left in her shift, but it had already felt like much had happened, and the end was still far away...
