[Jersey] Neon Backlight

Post by Megan (DELETED 9014) »

At this hour there was no traffic--vehicular or pedestrian--to distract her from the maddening hum of the droning fluorescent lights overhead. Megan pocketed her uncharged phone and puffed, slumping into the creaky chair behind the counter. It was 3AM and her shift was nowhere close to being over. As she sat there, all long limbs and wide yawns, she was the true paragon of ennui. If she’d brought her charger, then there would have been some measure of entertainment to turn to once her phone was juiced up. As things stood she’d left both wall and portable chargers at home, and her phone battery was in the red.

Disinterestedly flipping through a well-thumbed magazine on the counter, the blonde glanced about the empty store for something to do. Decided on walking the aisles in search of something to stock up on, Megan rose from the chair and stretched until her vertebrae cracked.

Just as she begun to tidy the refrigerated deli section, the sliding doors opened behind her, followed by the unnerving chime. Glancing over her shoulder, she offered a lukewarm welcome to the customer before returning her attention to the task at hand. Blonde locks and a svelte figure had her doing a double take.

“Uh, hey. Can I help you find something?”

Life had gotten somewhat back to normal, whatever that was, Jersey supposed. Turning another person - Jade was her name - had been an... interesting change and a development that she hadn't expected. And of course, with her husband refusing to leave the house... some change was always acceptable for the telepath. She had left after kissing the man goodbye with a list in hand, her phone in the other as she listened to Lucas whine at her, the man having contracted some strand of flu earlier on in the week. And while she didn't have any problem with him staying home and getting better - his health was important to her, the whining was getting to her.

The list was simple, really. He wanted a flu and cough medicine, and needed more ibuprofen in attempt to break the fever. Jersey knew exactly what ibuprofen was, it didn't help that she'd taken enough during her stint in the hospital. Chicken noodle soups, a cold compress. The woman sighed, her blonde hair falling over her shoulder in its loose ponytail. Below Lucas' list, she had a list of her own. Paints, yarn - to make more cat toys - and a pack of tennis balls for the dogs as Bear had chewed through another.

After getting off at the train station, the woman looked once more at her list and decided that ultimately, other than her paints and Lucas' items, her shopping could be held off for another day. It was late, after all, and she wanted to get home at a reasonable hour. She did like to press Peter's nerves a little when it came to disorganizations and other things, but time, other than removing his watch from his wrist, wasn't on the docket. Tucking her list and the phone away, Jersey entered the shop and lifted her hand to her ear to try and diminish that chime.

Jersey flashed a brief smile to the girl at the deli section, moving towards the medicine selection. Her smile fell upon the large amount of labels - damn him for not being specific enough. Picking up two brands, she frowned as she began to read the label, looking up as she heard the voice. "Um, yes. My brother is sick, but I don't use medicine myself - hardly get ill, and uh, which of these work best for flu-y symptoms?" It was a lame excuse, she knew it.
