Re: Question about the new rp thingier
Uhm, no I think it came about that people couldn't tell what was genuinely 'live' or not. I'm pretty sure that's it-even if people are gonna give me dagger eyes for saying that.
Whereas here, it would be live, in theory, right? Even if you come back a few days later to the same 'thread' and live chat and post it later to finish it off?

The New First Gen character RP contest in Jan 2016.Mooncalf wrote:Why did I stop giving 50% extra for live chats? Was it because I was planning on doing this thing with the transcripts?Roderic wrote:Well....maybe?
I mean once upon a time live chats were worth like what 50 percent more?
I think since they are actively rping and eating up grid playing time-that maybe. Idk if I would say 50 percent more (That's up to you), but I think it's difficult to keep rp going live sometimes. Quick thinking and all that.

To play devil's advocate, there's no proof that it's live if people do that.Bjorn wrote:I, personally, do not. I don't think that people who choose to transcribe their chats into word to make them meet their personal style before posting them, should be penalised for not using this system.

To be another fly in the ointment, there is no proof regardless. People can (and I sometimes think do) plan out to be 'spontaneous' all the time.Mooncalf wrote:To play devil's advocate, there's no proof that it's live if people do that.Bjorn wrote:I, personally, do not. If you do it in chats and use the post to forum button, then there is proof? It posts as the st account asap.Alexandrea wrote:To be another fly in the ointment, there is no proof regardless. Build a better lock, and the thief builds a better lock-pick. Nothing has changed if someone was inclined to cheat before, they will find a way to cheat now. Those whom I suspect wrote together before and copy pasted it 'live' back when it got you extra rpp, will still do it. The chat bot can't tell if they are writing from the top of their heads or copy pasting from gdocs.

Untrue. We have a chat mod. They can see time stamps and such. If you post, say 5k of words in 10 mins...gonna be a little hard to believe, yeah?

Honestly, I'd love to see it brought back for live RP's posted straight from the chat even if it's not 50% anymore. It was a nice incentive to jump into chats and spend a chunk of time RP'ing with others. It's a form where new players/characters can jump in and get their feet wet and one that encourages different types of characters to hang out together.

Re: Question about the new rp thingier
I don't see why there would be a problem with having more RPP for a live chat. Technically a person could only ever post to or post in threads marked [open] and perpetually make 50% extra RPP regardless of the format involved, so having extra RPP for live chats takes nothing from pure forum roleplayers.
The cheating thing seems a bit odd to me but I do see how it could be a problem and that's my only real reservation on the topic.
Otherwise, I think the incentive to A) RP spontaneously B) Jump into spontaneous RP C) RP with larger groups of people at a time (because threads with more than 4-5 people posting regularly is super difficult to manage) outweigh the possible drawbacks of potential cheating. But I tend to be a 'glass half full' kinda guy.
Just my thoughts <3
