Re: Call to a Stranger [Blaize]
Alice was a bit surprised Blaize had the same opinion on the matter as her. Sure, it would be nice if everyone accepted each other, no matter what they were. But people didn't work this way. Many humans would be too scared of getting their spot as the rulers of the world taken from them or just too scared of the unknown. And many vampires would be too afraid of being killed or worse, or just too obsessed with the secrecy they had kept up for so long. And with how some people were, there was a fate far worse than death for vampires that would get caught by the wrong people. Keeping his identity hidden was probably the safest decision for Blaize.
“That you did indeed. But don't worry, I won't tell anyone about it.” Not that there was any reason for her to tell anyone either way. Human, vampire, it didn't really matter to her. A person was a person and she'd not judge them for what they were, only for what they did. Besides, we're accomplices now, aren't we? Was the joke that came to her mind. But she didn't say it. Back then, Blaize had seemed shaken too, and she wasn't sure how he'd come to terms with everything, so it might not be a good idea to joke about the matter. “And hey, us talking here might be another step towards everyone accepting each other, right?” she instead said. It was an optimistic idea, but in the end, the only way people could really learn about each other was through talking face to face. That way everyone would be able to create an opinion for themselves. And maybe they would understand the others aren't that different from them.
“If things continue with everyone staying in secrecy, humanity will start creating opinions on what they see and hear. And horror stories travel further than stories of peace and friendship. Not to mention they are far louder.” she paused for a second, looking over the park. “Maybe I'm just to pessimistic though. But that's how I think things will go.

Re: Call to a Stranger [Blaize]
Blaize shook his head.
”I don’t think you’re just being pessimistic. I think you’re right. It’s not only that horror stories are louder and travel faster than stories of peace, I think that there’s a lot of horror out there, too. Horror that either doesn’t care about keeping the peace, or has no control over what it does and does not do,” he said. Blaize had been inducted into a coven, of sorts. A family, called West. They were, to what he knew and what he had witnessed and read, mostly peaceful. No one had forced him to learn how to use weapons; no one had been dismissive of human life. He would have to talk to each member individually to learn of their opinions and what they were loyal to in order to get a clearer picture of how the family stood as a whole.
That was if they stood anywhere, as a whole. They might not be as cohesive as all that, ready to jump to a cause. But nor were they discordant. Blaize wasn’t politically minded, and whatever was going on in the city between vampires and humans, he hadn’t really paid much attention. He was focused on one thing, and one thing only. He was focused on his career, and that came to the detriment of any care about the world beyond it.
”What would you do, given the choice?” he asked, cocking his head to the side as he turned to Alice, curious. ”I mean, if you could become immortal. Have superior strength, and senses. If you were given that choice, would you take it?” he asked. That’s what it came down to, in the end. Would the humans wipe out vampire kind, or would they try to harness that power for themselves, out of greed?

Re: Call to a Stranger [Blaize]
Exactly the question Alice had been asking herself all the time lately. She was still staring into the darkness, instead than to Blaize, with a thoughtful expression, as she answered. “I actually don't know. Thinking about it, immortality sounds nice, just as superior strength and senses. And things like needing to stick to the night wouldn't annoy me either. But I'm not sure if I'd really want to live forever. To me, that just sounds very lonely. Besides, I'm not even sure how I shall get through these eighty years that my life will be by now, how am I supposed to stand eternity then?” That was mostly the reason why she wanted to learn more about him. And hopefully about other vampires too. So that she would find an answer to that question. In the end, immortality and all that were nice things, but none of that would be the reasons why she'd decide to become one, if she'd decide on that.
Then apparently changing her mood, she looked over at Blaize, a smile on her face again. “Besides, if too many humans would become vampires, that would be the end of vampires and humans alike. Think about it, in the end vampires are dependant on humans. You drink blood, right? Maybe animals blood would work for you guys too, that I don't know enough about, but in the end, you mostly feed off humans, right? So if there would be more vampires than humans, that would cause trouble because there would not enough for you to live off.” She wondered, was it strange that she was casually talking about someone feeding off humans like her like it was nothing? But in the end, she didn't care. Would the people be killed when they were fed on, the death rate in the town would probably be higher, so as long as nobody got harmed she didn't really mind.
The way Alice saw the situation right now, it was like the first page of a story. The base scene was set, and from here on there were dozens of possible story paths. Only when the pages were turned, they would see how everything goes on, and until the pages got turned, they would still be able to influence it's contents. And in the end, it could be a happy ending, or one of the thousands of bad endings, one of which was the one she mentioned right now. It was important to know the bad endings, so one could find the ending he or she saw as the good one. Though that could vary from person to person too.

Re: Call to a Stranger [Blaize]
Blaize frowned. He’d never really thought about it that way, and for a few seconds it made sense. What would they do, if vampires outnumbered humans? Eventually, though, he shook his head.
”No, okay. So vampires are prominent in this city only because it’s close to a rift. It makes them more… powerful,” he said. He couldn’t call himself an expert, but Lyonel had taught him enough to know vaguely what he was talking about. ”Whether there are other cities like this in the world, I don’t know. But I feel like this is a hub. And though it might seem like there are a lot of us here, it’s only because we don’t want to leave. See? As it stands, humans far outweigh the vampires. I think it’d be decades down the track before anything got so out of hand…” he said. The family that Blaize belonged to wasn’t enormous, by any means. Yeah, there were a few of them, but it wasn’t as if they were welcoming more into their ranks every night. Vampires didn’t procreate like rats in the darkness. He liked to think they were picky about who they sired and when.
Lyonel certainly had his reasons why Blaize, and Blaize didn’t think he had any ‘siblings’. None that were still around, anyway. And Lyonel hadn’t sired since.
”Anyway,” he said, waving his hand in the air as if to dismiss the grim possibility of the future. ”I’m not sure you picked the best guy to get information out of. I’ve not been this way for very long and I seem to have little to no interest about the politics. I dance. I’m a dancer. That’s all I care about,” he said with a vague shrug, almost looking apologetic as he turned to Alice. Almost, but not quite.

Re: Call to a Stranger [Blaize]
„To get information out of? You make it sound like I'm only after information and don't care about anything else at all.” Alice replied in an intentionally fake sounding sad tone. But immediately after that she returned to her previous cheerfulness. “True, I want to know more, but it's not like I'd be sitting here with a list of questions or anything. I'll just wait till you, or another of your kind, wants to tell something and then I'll listen.” This, as she had noticed, may not be the fastest way to find out things, but the most polite and in the end, the most reliable. As long as she was patient and showed that she was trustworthy, she'd learn about everything sooner or later, and she'd maybe also gain some friends or at least acquaintances this way.
To be honest, she wasn't even sure which was more important to her, learning more about the vampires, or meeting a few of them. However, both were intertwined and would lead to each other, so there was no reason to delve into that question any further. She would find out the answer sooner or later.
“So, dancing is your dream I guess?” she inquired. “Having a dream is a good thing. It's what gives life,” she stopped for a second “or existence, the term life might be controversial in some people's point of view I guess, a reason. As long as one can pursue their dreams, what reason is there to care about anything else?” Tilting her head slightly and thinking for a moment, Alice then said: “Though I'd really like to see you dance some day. If you're that dedicated I'm sure you're good.”

Re: Call to a Stranger [Blaize]
The smile that curled Blaize’s lips was slow, subtle and yet highly amused. The way Alice talked about it, the way she assumed she would gather her information, it was as if she expected them to be friends, to meet often. A slow gathering of information took time. Was this not their one and only meeting in the dark?
”Maybe we should think of some other places to meet than a dark bench in the middle of a park. If that’s the way you want to operate,” he said, head rolling on his shoulders to assess the woman beside him. She was still young. Was she having her quarter life crisis? Was she a mere tumbleweed, blown down the street under no instruction of her own? Except, it was her choice to contact him, to come here. She was a tumbleweed with purpose, even if that purpose was simply to make sure she had as many doors open to her as possible.
Voicing her wish to see him dance one day only added to Blaize’s assumption that she wanted to meet again. Eventually. He shrugged.
”You can come see me dance. I’m not shy,” he said. Sooner or later he’d get back into the game, he’d travel. He’d fit better into his skin, which at the moment felt brittle, like it was all going to crumble away at any second.
”It’s been my dream for so long I’m not sure whether it’s still a dream, but just the road that I’ve chosen. I don’t know anything else. What about you? Any dreams or aspirations?” he asked, at first just thinking out loud, but later summoning the requisite curiosity about the human at his side.

Re: Call to a Stranger [Blaize]
In a way, Alice envied him. Even though he played it down, saying it was not a dream but merely his road in life, it was still something very important in her opinion. Even if he didn't know anything else, it was something he could be secure about. For this, Alice envied him. Having a direction to go in and something to work towards. It was what she had been searching for for so long.
“My dream...” she said, furrowing her brows thinking. Her dream was something she never told anyone. And she definitely didn't know Blaize good enough to tell him either. However, she didn't want to just tell him the complete lie she usually told people either. Even though he seemed convinced she was only trying to get information out of him, she didn't think about it like that. Maybe she even wanted to become friends with him, she wasn't sure. She just knew she was still searching for something, and she still didn't know what it was. “One could say my dream is to find a dream.” She then smiled. “I guess that means I don't really have one.”
This was not a topic she wanted to talk about, especially since she wasn't even able to answer her own questions about it. “By the way, there's a question that's been on my mind. Why did you come to help me when I was attacked? Most people tend not to care and pretend they haven't seen anything if something happens that might destroy their usual daily routine.”

Re: Call to a Stranger [Blaize]
Blaize wondered what it would be like to not have a dream, that singular goal to work toward. Now he wasn’t staring at the park in front of them, nor the sky; he was staring at the flotsam beside him, this young girl with no direction, just bobbing and flowing where the ocean decided to take her. It was an ocean, wasn’t it? Rivers had destinations.
It wasn’t something that Blaize could help with. He wasn’t the giver of dreams. The change of topic was a reprieve, that need to offer assurances and suggestions whisked away. Why had he jumped in to play hero? Blaize shook his head, shrugging his shoulders as his gaze once again drifted. He had thought about this. He still didn’t have an answer.
”I don’t actually know. Never been in that situation before, I suppose. It was a split second decision,” he said, a slow smile gracing his lips. ”It’s the kind of situation that defines character, yeah? Consequences aside, I suppose I should be happy about the decision I did make,” he said with a nod, far too relaxed about it now. Consequences aside. Had he forgotten the dead man so easily? Yes, he had. He’d pushed it from his mind. The consequences hadn’t been as dire as they could be. The two had evaded further issue.
”Hey, they didn’t contact you again did they? The cops?” he said, voice hushed. ”No further issues?” he asked.
