Re: Grid Archiving
Idk, I want all mine. Utilized or not, some are super special...say the penthouse I won in a comp when path just started. In fact just a few weeks ago, I went to a place that I hadn't with a character in a long time. Things happen in a story/plot which say...for example. Two characters are together and then they aren't anymore. Usually they share a lair and then they might have their own lairs. That they go back to that the other person can't get to. Just some food for thoughts. That happens a fair bit, i think?
-shrugs-
Also, I think mebbe clearing the SR might help? I know at one point I saw some thralls in there and it's like...why?

As for suggestions:
1) Reduce the amount of time read memories tracks from 1 month to 2 weeks (or something like that).
2) Set a cap on how many lockboxes an account can own.
Will the upcoming trap update reduce the database load?
What are the 'key problem' databases? Maybe we can come up with creative solutions for those.
1) That would nerf read memories a bit.
2) Might be a problem if some people already own in excess of X lockboxes.
Largest database tables are: the one that stores items, the grid tiles one, the emails one, the memories one, the ID recognition one, and the one which stores miscellaneous logs to help me find cheaters. In that order. All of those except the grid tiles, the IDs one, and items are pruned regularly.
An archiving system would be the best solution, I feel, especially for the items database, which is massive. Sadly, I don't think archiving the items table is going to make the game movement any faster.

What if emails just auto deleted after every few months? I admit, I have tons on some characters, and should do this more often, but an auto purge might be awesome/help?

What do you mean the ID recognition one? Like humans vs vampires when you walk into a square and it says...You recognize so and so, attack them?

Yeah I just noticed that they weren't purged for some reason. Fixed, but it's not going to speed up most of the game at all.Hannah Lynn wrote:What if emails just auto deleted after every few months? Yes. Can't auto prune that one, unless a character gets purged or deletes themselves.Hannah Lynn wrote:What do you mean the ID recognition one? Like humans vs vampires when you walk into a square and it says...You recognize so and so, attack them?

However, making the game so that IDs are no longer even needed would be a huge help, and it's something I've been considering.

Would it also help to just get rid of people being humans or vampires.Mooncalf wrote:Yes. Say, a human walks into a square with a vampire...and only recognizes it when walking into a square instead of seeing (Human x4). I've kinda thought that would help things too, if everyone could just see grid names, esp since secrecy is kinda...null and void anyways?

I don't think the proposed archiving system will make it so you lose those properties. It would basically just store them in another (not regularly used database) until such time as the location is used again.Hannah Lynn wrote:Idk, I want all mine. Then it would pull the location out of the secondary database and put it back into the main one.
Think of it like a butler collapsing your tent except for when you need it. He can always put it back up, and you won't even notice that it was down, because he does it all while you are busy with other things. So the tent is always there and available for use; it just isn't always set up.

Players, from how I understand the system, wouldn't even notice the locations being archived most of the time.

With the fall of secrecy, I don't honestly think the ID system is necessary. From an RP standpoint, a person with a mirror could easily identify a vampire or human.

OH! I see, then yeah. archive away. so long as I can get to it some point or another.
And stop stealing my thoughts. Thoughtstealer.

<.<
But, yeah. same page. If that would help the data base significantly, then I think this is as good as time as any.
