Re: Roleplayers: Would You Take This Option?
I don't view enforcing OOC collaboration as harming the grid, PVP, or interaction. If anything, people are more likely, in my experience, to engage in PVP if they have a choice in the matter. The numerous MMORPGS with healthy PVP communities, which have entirely optional PVP are more than enough proof of that.
Path is meant to be roleplay-centric. RP is an interactive hobby, not a reactive hobby. Players talking is how the system should work.

I think I'll leave the specific debate (though not the thread entirely) on that note actually. His whole post should be bolded. Particularly the part about PVP in other MMOs working when the PVP is optional.Azraeth wrote:I don't view enforcing OOC collaboration as harming the grid, PVP, or interaction. Re: Roleplayers: Would You Take This Option?
No one is waking up dead anymore? You've prevented that with the four hit rule that EVERYONE is under the same rule of thumb at. And those attacking are out in the public, not being able to go home. We're all under the same rule of thumb? I know I can walk away and leave the grid for hours and if I get four hits? oh well. I won't move and figure out a new tactic to heal/get blood, etc, etc. I don't know of anyone logging in anymore to a character that's dead. That has to be like half a year ago? At least?Mooncalf wrote: I don't think that's true about most of the hardcore roleplayers here at all. I think they are just more interested in roleplay than they are waking up to find their characters dead. Many gamers seem to me to be the ones interested primarily in winning, and anyone standing against them becomes the enemy OOC. That to me is a far more insular bubble than the one the hardcore roleplayers limit themselves to.
It boils down to what kind of game do I want this to be? RBC? WoW? Or a roleplay-centric game where collaboration and contributing to an overall grand story is encouraged, rather than OOC drama? I've said for a long time now that Path will be going more roleplay-centric, and this is the kind of thing I'm talking about. When I first made the game I set it up to be half and half, but I've seen that doesn't marry too well. The nature of Path is that it's a roleplay-centric game which attracts more roleplayers than gamers (see the stats page), and so it simply makes sense to make it more roleplay-centric.
The unique feature of the game is really the chapters and similar story events, and that, again, lends itself to roleplay more than it does grinding. Some gamer-centric players play out the chapters with things such as XP optimisation and power growth in mind. That's not the intention of Path's core feature.
I also feel like the stat page is sort of misleading. I mean...if I click gamer, then I can't enter chats. Or see certain forums, I think? So that kinda forces gamers to pick rper. How many actually rp all their charries on path, consistently?

I just think you need to really look at the forum and the numbers before saying there are far more writers here.

I didn't see this question addressed..
Powers. Powers are based on PXP. You earn PXP by keeping your character at or above 10bp.
If a character never plays on the grid, does that mean they never earn powers?

Re: Roleplayers: Would You Take This Option?
Hmm. Idk about that. If we had all had this thought since the beginning, path would be an entirely different game, without any real conflict grid wise. Just thinking of some of the old wars and such from back in the day. Would that had led us to the chapters and npc's we have now? Maybe...maybe not.Azraeth wrote:I don't view enforcing OOC collaboration as harming the grid, PVP, or interaction. Well, I just think we wouldn't have had the grigori vs city war. Which everyone in this thread thus far was part of.
Other events and wars too. I mean everyone remembers those wars-they are in our history and everyone had fun then.
I remember laughing and the war going on past that one event.

Thank you Alexandrea mun.
So if the grid becomes obsolete, will there the possibility of getting the money back for karma spent on in grid items only like lairs, buildings, portals?
And by obsolete, if everyone opts no grid.. its like we threw away money.

David should test it. Allow people to create an rp char only. No grid. Rp in a locked section of the forum that only they have access to, and see if it is supported.
