Old Friends [Yasu]

Post by Jaxon »

--The following transcript was a live chat roleplay--
* Jaxon sat on the bench at a bus-stop, safely hidden from the rain beneath the cover of bus-stop roof. He dumped his messenger bag onto the bench beside himself as he fiddled with his phone, shooting a text to Whit.
* Yasu muttered an oath, ignoring the haunted laughter around him as his foot hit another patch of slush, sending him sideways on the ground for the third time today. Soaked and frozen to the bone, all he really wanted to do was get back to his shop and curl up by the heater with one of the new books he'd purchased. Even inventory would be favorable over this. Shivering, he pushed to his feet again, wrapping his arms tight as if they might stave off a little of the chill. Looking very much like a drowned rat, hair sticking to his face and coat askew on his shoulders, half unzipped, the male too cold to care at this point. Water dug into his runners, biting against his frozen flesh.
* Jaxon squinted at his phone expectantly for a few moments before the sound of someone falling drew his attention away. He lifted his gaze, peering out into the rain curiously. Eyes widened at the familiar frame, although the man looked worse for wear, and Jax tucked his phone back into his pocket as he stood and dodged back onto the street. "Jack! Hey Jack, are you okay?" He waved both arms over his head with exaggeration.
* Yasu was rather numb, teeth chattering, and so it took him nearly a full minute to realize Jaxon was there, calling him by that odd little nickname he favored. Yasu opened and shut his mouth, struggling to bite a few words out against the chill. In the end, he settled for a shaky nod, sniffing quietly.
* Jaxon frowned as he neared the man, slowing to a halt near him. "How long you been out in the rain?" He asked, and wished not for the first time that he had an umbrella. Hadn't Jack had one before? Maybe he left it behind. "Lets get you home."
* Yasu muttered something that sounded like "an hour or so" in answer to Jaxons question, pressing a sleeve covered hand to his face in an effort to warm his mouth and nose. Glancing at the other male, he nodded shortly.
* Jaxon gave a half-smile of encouragement and walked alongside the man to accompany him. "Almost there, now." He offered a little lamely, wiping the water from his face pointlessly.
* Yasu couldn't help a slight snort at the comment, followed by a sideways glance and a flimsy smile. "H- how have you...been?" he offered up, tightening his jaw to try and stem the tremble in his voice from the chill.
* Jaxon adjusted the strap of his bag on his shoulder, humming a sound under his breath because he didn't much care for silence. "Oh. I've been good. Still getting myself into trouble, I guess." He flashed a smile, unrepentant and a little mischievous, and nudged his shoulder to Jack's affectionately. "Maybe you can go on another adventure with me, sometime."
* Yasu couldn't help but relax a little, even forgetting about the chill somewhat. "That much e-excitement again? I don't know if my old h- heart can take it..." A lame joke slid into the air as he redirected his gaze forward again.
* Jaxon looked around as they neared the mans shop, lips pursing. "I dunno, you seemed to handle things pretty well, actually. Was nice to have some backup when things got crazy." He admitted, rubbing a hand against the back of his own neck.
* Yasu shrugged offhandedly, his smile fading. "Not really. I never expected... something like that.." he admitted quietly. "It shouldn't have been so surprising... seeing the dead alive... nothing I haven't seen before. Just not in that way.." He shook his head with a sharp shiver, digging around for his key. Pulling it out, he sighed in relief at the sight of it, rubbing the side of his neck absent mindedly before going to unlock the door. "Would you like to come in, or do you need to get going? Thanks, by the way..."
* Jaxon hadn't felt his phone buzz in response so he shrugged and gave another smile. "I can come in, make sure you get warmed up." He chuckled and nodded, huddling a little closer to the door as a cold wind cut through them.
* Yasu nudged the door open, flicking a light on. Pausing in the door, he seemed to take a long, searching look around before snapping back to reality and slipping inside. "Just me? You must be cold as well, right?"
* Jaxon stepped in after the man, sliding his bag of his shoulder to let it land on the floor near the door. "Yeah. It's super chilly out. For some reason I was hoping spring would bring warmth." He admitted as he unzipped his windbreaker.
* Yasu let the door close, removing his coat, shoes, and sodden socks and leaving them on a hanger and by the door to drip dry. He took a brief moment to dig his bare feet into the carpet, enjoying the warmth before padding over to the small kitchen. "Seems like the seasons are changing. Soon we'll be celebrating christmas on the beach and easter in an igloo," he called over his shoulder, setting a kettle on the stove and fetching mugs. "Tea? Coffee? Hot chocolate?"
* Jaxon took the chance to wander around the mans little home, plucking up random books to inspect the titles and flip through the pages. "Cocoa sounds great!" He called back with a flashed small smile.
* Yasu set to work with a faint noise of confirmation, the light clatter of utensils filling the air. "So, you've shown me the undead. Anything else of that caliber you've yet to share?" he asked with a tinge of curiousity.

--The following transcript was a live chat roleplay--
* Jaxon turned to trail into the kitchen after the man, leaning against the doorway with a pleasant expression. "There are other things. Mooncalves, they're really offputting." He grimaced.
* Yasu puzzled over that. "You mentioned them before. Nothing else, though?" He turned, pressing a drink into Jaxons hands.
* Jaxon took the cup and covered it with both hands to warm his digits, even while he blew a breath over the top of the liquid. "Well I'm not sure. There probably are other things. This town is so bizarre." He shrugged.
* Yasu hummed thoughtfully, sipping from his own drink slowly in deep thought. "Too bad," he murmured quietly. Staring into the depths of his drink, he remained quiet, thoughtful. Words burned on his lips, but they faltered there as well.
* Jaxon nodded, finally taking a slow sip of the chocolatey drink. "There are... I mean there is... at least one other thing." He admitted quietly, then rolled his shoulders back. "They're not dead though. Or undead."
* Yasu glanced up again, his gaze searching. "Oh?" A soft noise, inviting Jaxon to continue.
* Jaxon took another sip, more to distract himself than anything else. "Yes." He squinted one eye. "Do you believe in magic?" After a moment his lips quirked. "And I'm not talking about the song."
* Yasu reacted rather sharply, his grip tightening on the cup. "Maybe I do. What of it?" His eyes narrowed a touch, taking a long look over Jaxon.
* Jaxon looked startled at Jack's reaction, and thought over his words. He could play it off still, he was a street magician afterall. But frankly, it was tiring keeping it to himself. "I'm a sorcerer." He blurted out.
* Yasu wasn't quite expecting such a declaration, and for a long moment he simply stared. "A sorcerer," he repeated quietly. "Is that what it's called here? His expression was calm, giving his drink a glance before putting it down.
* Jaxon tilted his head, somehow expecting more of a response from the skiddish man. A smile curved his lips at the question though and he nodded. "Yeah, yes. Sorcery, magicks. It's real. I can do some of it." He waved his hand.
* Yasu moved past, glancing over a shelf just outside the kitchen door. "I know. My aunt called it differently though. She called it Draoi. Druid. I doubt the difference is substantial though." He spoke softly, almost absentmindedly, running a hand over the many spines.
* Jaxon nodded a little, leaning against the doorframe again as he watched the man curiously. "I'm sure it's the same. I mean, I don't know for certain. But magick is magick, right?"
* Yasu nodded thoughtfully. "As far as I'm aware. Then again, I've only met one other, aside from you and I."
* Jaxon felt a smile brightening his features as he stood up a little taller. "You can do it too? Really?" He let out a laugh. "I was beginning to think I was the only one. Or I was crazy."
* Yasu couldn't bite back the faintest smile. "You aren't crazy. No crazier than I am at least. Answer me one thing though.." He paused, smile slipping. "Do you... see the spirits of the dead as well?"
* Jaxon frowned a little at the question, and was already shaking his head before he replied. "No. I don't." He paused, thinking over the numerous interactions he'd had with the other man. Something about them had always been vaguely familiar... His eyes widened. "I think Whit does, though." He whispered.
* Yasu nodded quietly. "I believe you may be right." He seemed a tiny bit disappointed, though. "So... a sorcerer huh..?" Quickly, he changed topics back to the original one.
* Jaxon gave a crooked smile and nodded, tapping fingers against the side of his cup. "Yeah. It's amazing. I enjoy learning the magicks here. It helps me fight those zombies, too." He said excitedly.
* Yasu nodded quietly. "My aunt was my greatest supporter when I was learning. If it wasn't for her..." he shrugged, trailing off.
* Jaxon swirled the contents of his cup with a roll of his wrist. "I didn't really know any of this, before I came here. Was like something was woken up in me when I moved here."
* Yasu moved back into the kitchen, picking up his cup and dumping it, rinsing it out slowly. "Something about this place... is rather empowering... both in good and bad ways, certainly."
* Jaxon gave an impish grin, nudging the man with an elbow. "Maybe. You should join me on another adventure, though. It's good for the soul!"
* Yasu scoffed at that. "Whatever you say, Jill."
* Jaxon let out a startled laugh and shook his head. "Oh, now it's on. I'm dragging you to the catacombs. I'll introduce you to a mooncalf." He paused, head tilting. "I don't think they speak English though."
* Yasu couldn't help but raise a brow. "What are they again? Sound like some tribal cow person."
* Jaxon flopped a hand in the air. "That's what Whit calls them, it's weird. They're like... frankenstein monsters, though. Bunch of zombies pieced together. I call 'em Frankensteins." He nodded.
* Yasu actually made a face at that. "Gross..."
* Jaxon nodded, and shuffled back to the door. He was warm now, and it sounded like the rain was letting up. "Yeah. So I'll call you next time I head out there, let you see. Maybe you can test your abilities out." He flashed a smile and plucked up his bag.
* Yasu shrugged, following him to the door. "Sure thing. Be careful."
* Jaxon nodded, ducking out the door. "Thanks. You too."
