Re: A list of questions about vampires
I look at it as in an ooc sense as The Wiki, which is the guide we use to interpret canon so we know the world rules our character works within.
I've always played it that our characters don't move around during the day, unless they have the daywalker power. Day comes, they pass out, until night. Our characters aren't up playing monopoly during daylight hours, cause... daylight is their ultimate weakness.

dang, this made me hungry. o.O also, that Hunter has some issues. but then, I think all of them do...Pi dArtois wrote:...causing it to smolder and sizzle like the breast of a swine on a roasting spit...
I've also thought it canon that Vampires simply aren't up during the day. Makes the most sense, as far as how this venue interprets vampires. (Besides, then Daywalker just wouldn't be quite as cool.)
I have wondered if there could be different interpretations for different vampires however. Maybe some revert to becoming dead bodies, while others appear alive and yet asleep. Perhaps others turn into the bodies of beasts, or corporeal shadows, or maybe faceless dead bodies. I've always played Xian as knocked out when the sun rises, but I've never really explored what he appears like during the day. (I mean, no other vampires can check it out, after all, and he hasn't interacted with PC humans)
Anybody ever think about having their brutish Killer vampire turn into a small, dead, Shi Tzu while they're sleeping?

Don't mean to steal a thread. move along, move along... :)

Re: A list of questions about vampires
It doesn't necessary put a vampire to sleep. In fact there is a Curse that does that.
Sunlight Torpor - While some vampires can, with extreme effort, prevent themselves from slipping into torpor during sunlight hours, you are simply unable to do so. As soon as the sun rises, you fall asleep. (Bloodline inheritance optional)
Ergo, vampires can and do move about in the daytime, just not in the sunlight.

With extreme effort. I think the key here, is that for vampires, sleep is the usual outcome of daylight, for that RP power you quoted, sleep is the ONLY thing.
Moving around implies sauntering around, doing whatever they want, when it seems clear to me that any moving around is the extreme exception, certainly not in any way a rule.
Plus, I have more fun playing a character with weakness. Weakness in RP = awesomes

Very true, in fact in a hardcore setting I would say the dice roll to remain awake should be difficult, physically demanding rolled each post. Failure of course meaning slipping into torpor.
That being said a vampire being staked in mythology (with the stake missing the mark) has been able to fight off intruders into their haven and escape otherwise unscathed, so there is a grey area there.

Re: A list of questions about vampires
I think, in the case of the vampire about to be staked, this is survival instinct kicking in. Even though vampires are dead things, the fact that they keep coming back points to some sort of survival instinct. Possibly with approximations of adrenaline as well? The game system I was talking about (really, why am I not naming it? am I playing "guess the RPG"? lol) from where we get at least some of the terms we use, has rules regarding fear of Final Death, one of which allows the vampire to move in the daytime to preserve itself.Ambrose Acheron wrote:Very true, in fact in a hardcore setting I would say the dice roll to remain awake should be difficult, physically demanding rolled each post. Also: still looking for the Killer who turns into a bunny wabbit in the daytime ^^ lol. jk. kinda.
Edit: Just a passing thought, almost random but related. I remember that sleep actually performs a vital function in a conscious mind. Partly keeps us from going crazy. So, what if daywalkers eventually go crazy? (Just a combination of this thread, a passing thought, and Pi saying weakness is RP gold)
So now I'm also looking for the daywalker slowly going insane because he can't sleep

Re: A list of questions about vampires
I've got an Allurist that crossed Killer path that has bunny for meaner things.
Does that count, Xian?
And to add my 2 cents to the brief disrail; all mine have daywalker, and when I have addressed it in rp I usually refer to my gals as either being overly hyper, various degrees of being lethargic, or as a frustrated insomniac.
Also when you can't post back to an rp in a rational amount of time (like me) It justifies an aside remark about how your vampire just kinda zoned out for a bit there... >.<
Plus 'long sleeps' could be blamed on having been resisting the urge to go unconscious for too long.

Haha! Awesome! Though I was kinda thinking someone with a Bear-like form, huge and imposing, who goes to sleep as a tiny creature.Alexandrea wrote:I've got an Allurist that crossed Killer path that has bunny for meaner things.Does that count, Xian? <snip>

Also good to find someone else thought about Daywalkers going little crazies from not getting any day-sleep... I also don't know why, but earlier before I got to check back here, I was imagining a daywalking, tormented, psychotic, Killer-wabbit, who can't remember they're a vampire in the daylight. Ah, random things that add up in my head. XD
Anyhoos, hope my randomness didn't derail us overmuch. I like these question threads; helps to establish canon, and helps the creative juices too.
